With its rustic, eclectic vibes and eye-catching decor elements, The Gastro Bar offers a place to socialize, eat and drink. The full bar has all the cocktails, wines, beers and other spirits you could want with your meal. Semi-private dining areas make The Gastro Bar suitable for special occasions as well, and with special event menus, planning is always convenient.
The Gastro Bar has happy hour and a specials menu with valuable deals on popular dishes. The dinner menu features plenty of options regardless of your appetite and tastes. Start with an appetizer like Chicken Lollipops or the jalapeño poppers. Entrees include the grilled salmon, steak and frites along with fajitas, among many others. Those wanting something hearty can dive into a unique burger creation, such as the yellowfin tuna burger or the turkey burger with saffron aioli, chorizo and pepper-jack cheese.
The food choices were very limited, very pricey ,and really not good
This "restaurant" was in the lobby of a hotel, located down a dark street with nothing else in sight. There was one other party dining and yet the service was horrendous. I had to signal the waiter over each time I wanted something. My father was arriving into Penn Station late so I was looking for a restaurant close by. We shared a flat bread pizza (not good) and a charcuterie plate (fine). Everything seemed way overpriced and poor quality.
The restaurant's name is Gastro BAR, which is an important point to note since it is a bar first and a gastropub second. None of the food is bad but none of it is particularly good either. We took advantage of the five tapas and a bottle of wine deal and I still feel like it was too pricey for what we got. Again, nothing was BAD, it just wasn't in any way notable or remarkable.
If you're on the west side in the 30's and you need a quick bite and a drink then absolutely stop by. However, if you're not in the area, don't bother going out of your way.
Our first night in NY came across this bar/restaurant. The food was really good, and the prices were reasonable too. It was quiet, but it was a Monday night, so no suprises there. We would recommend Gastro Bar to all groups and couples.
Great food, priced well, and if you go on their website, they have a coupon for a free bottle of wine.
we made a 9:30 reservation on Open Table, and showed up promptly at that time, only to be told that the kitchen closes at 9:30, and that we therefore would not be served. when asked why they accepted reservations for that time if the kitchen wasn't going to be open, the response was a shrug and a 'well, that time should not have been listed as available'. Presumably they had received notification of the reservation earlier in the day, when it was made. Why did no one contact us to tell us a 9:30 reservation could not be accomodated?
Food is Tapas but with a New York twist, sliders, mac and cheese etc. It was lovely and the desserts to die for. ( We had fabulous churros with dips and brioche made into a type of bread and butter pudding, soft, warm and gorgeous!). The service was quick and very very friendly, staff were chatty and happy to recommend different things if you are unsure. Good selection of drinks. Only thing I would say is that the place is not shown as The Gastro Bar outside so we did walk past it! Definitely would recommend it.
great find near penn station
can have great tapas and then get on the train-perfect for commuters
good before theatre or before hoping on bus to Jets or Giants
cant wait to go back
try the lamb
When my friend and I arrived, we didn't realize it was a hotel bar. It's beautiful though. Decent cocktail / wine menus, decent tapas menus.
Food, service atmosphere were horrible.
