Good home style cooking. Reasonable prices. Great service. Even greater views.
Great food with a great view. Quiet, good for conversation.
This restaurant has a lot of hype, but in my opinion it’s overrated. The view is beautiful but it’s really just a view of temple square, not Salt Lake City. The server had too many tables so we sat for about 20 minutes before being served, and another 20 before getting our actual order taken. The food comes out wrapped with a bow which was very cute and overall the food was great. I had a blackberry Italian soda with a BLT, and my date had a coke with just a classic burger, and we were both happy with our meal. The waitress was kind and joked around a little, but for the price I think this restaurant is not all that it’s hyped up to be.
I brought my 4 yr old granddaughter here for a birthday lunch. She ordered the chicken tenders. They were huge for a child. Some smaller chunks would have been easier for her to eat. She loved getting a ballon on the table for her birthday, but was disappointed they were not able to open the ceiling for her, even though it was a nice day. She dipped everything in the ranch dressing, so our waiter brought her a whole bowl of dressing so she would have plenty. The chocolate salted caramel cake we shared for desert was huge and delicious.
The service was quick and the food was tastey. I will definitely be coming back here on my next visit to Salt Lake City.
The menu is limited. We had eaten at The Roof but never tried the Garden. We both had sandwiches and my wife’s hamburger was really pretty good. The Club sandwich was ok but I wouldn’t order again. The wait service was outstanding!!
Comfort food. Great dessert.
I come to Utah once a year and have to eat here every time. I always bring different friends to enjoy the experience:g great food, amazing service, spectacular views, dress up or dress down
atmosphere and cost effective for what one gets. I would highly recommend for any occasion (or just afternoon lunch with the girls).
The view was fantastic, service exceptional, and the was food excellent. Overall a great experience. We met friends from England and enjoyed the time together for lunch. Make reservations and enjoy the view and the meal.
Since you asked my opinion, I'll give it as nicely as I can.
Wife's birthday. Really wanted to go to the Garden Restaurant. Delightful view. And, the mystique of feigning high-class status should never be overlooked.
Serving staff was friendly. A bit overly joyful, but not unreasonably so.
Then, the plates arrived.
My sweetheart's attempts to eat her meatloaf were woefully unsuccessful. She has a hard time eating lukewarm food, and that slice was almost lukewarm. Finally she gave in, called the waiter and requested to have it micro-waved. He said they'd replace it.
They did. With another slice not noticeably warmer. Potatoes were likewise neither hot nor cold. So, rather than pursue the matter she determined take it home and heat it up properly on Sunday. The asparagus was freshly from the cooler, but tasty . . . so I ate it.
I can eat almost anything. The hamburger I ordered could have been properly classified as an "anything". Dry and slightly better than a Big Mac, it paled in comparison to a Crown Burger (on their worst day). At the prices charged by The Garden; it seems they could send someone down to Carl's Jr., bring back a better burger, repackage it and still make an obscenely handsome profit. From two blocks away, the then-served burger would likely still be warmer, definitely more tasty than the one I had and, the bun probably wouldn't be scorched. But, accustomed to even lesser fare from an raging campfire, I ate it without complaint.
Fried Pickles (at $1.50 per slice... really?) provided the only heated portion of the meals.
We dropped a cool 50 Bucks. Next birthday? my romantic wife really isn't interested in going back.
We could have enjoyed much better food at Crown Burger 4 times, exercised it off by walking a few blocks up the street, listened to the piano in the lobby and then spending a few moments taking in the view from the 10th floor.
Sorry, the view ain't worth the price . . . and the food ain't neither.
Took a chance on the meatloaf, but it was dry. Menu selection seemed scant. Service was slow. View was excellent and we were seated on time.
The pasta had no flavor and was cold. The steak and potatoes looked good but the gravy was yucky. Rolls were stale. View was fantastic. Pineapple crush drink amazing!
I used to love The Garden!! I was pretty disappointed when the food was so... bleh. My burger and fries were both burned. And my friend commented at the end of the meal that she hadn’t cared for her penne chicken, either. Our server was darling, when we saw her, which was like twice. She’d offered dessert, of course, but took so long to return that we had to decline if we were to make our concert. To put it in context, we arrived at 5:30 PM and didn’t have to be to Abravanel Hall until 7:30 PM. Having it take almost 2 hours to get a hamburger and penne pasta seemed a little unreasonable. It seems like perhaps they were shorthanded. Again, nothing was truly terrible, it just seems that The Garden restaurant has perhaps been a little neglected.
When I made my reservation, I asked for a table with a view of the city, and that's exactly what I got. The restaurant is on the tenth floor, and I had the luck of dining there on a sunny day, so the view was stunning.
We loved the berry cobbler! Never had one better. The appetizers were also super good.
Fish and Chips on Friday was excellent. Also the pasta in lemon cream sauce.
We dined at The Garden a month ago and it was awesome. Unfortunately, that was not our recent experience. In our reservation we had requested a window table but we were taken to a non-window table. However, when I brought this to their attention, they did accommodate us and we didn't have to wait too long for that. It took a very long time for our server to come. It seemed that they were very understaffed and it wasn't all that busy. Our server seemed to spend more time gabbing to others rather than taking care of us. When it was time to pay, we waited a long time before another employee noticed that we were waiting and he had to tell our server to take care of us! The food was just average, not as spectacular as it was a month ago, so we are wondering if it's just hit and miss for a good meal. We had talked up the Garden to our daughter from Phoenix, and were so excited to take them to The Garden when they came to visit. But then we were all disappointed. We even had to ask our server for rolls as she had forgotten to bring them. She was nowhere near as attentive as our previous server had been. She was very nice and all, but just very different from our previous server. All in all, it was a disappointment. We won't return there. We will stick to The Lion House Pantry as we've never been disappointed there.
A great location and ambiance with a variety of food
Nice quiet spot, not very busy (even on a Friday night) with personal service, decent food and an awesome view of Temple square and downtown SLC.
Everything was great. Enjoyed our time there. It was really quiet because it was early and on a Monday night.
It is a great place to eat, it was nice to sit by the fountain and hear the water, service was tops.
A friend suggested this place for the food and view of the temple. Our small group enjoyed it. Most of us got salmon for dinner and it was cook wonderfully.
Gorgeous view of Salt Lake, and sunset at the right time. Was a really classy date, not too expensive either. Great service and amazing food.
Beautiful location. Food was good. Nice and quiet for business conversations.
Our reservation was for 8:30 on a Saturday night. There were only a few other diners at that time, and we enjoyed quick service and great views of the Salt Lake City Temple. The food was excellent.
Amazing food and service. I would highly recommend attending this gem.
My husband and I came to the garden to celebrate our 21 year anniversary. We were incredibly disappointing by the lack of service and the quality of food for the money we spent. The food had very little flavor and we were incredibly disappointed. We will not be coming back and we will not be recommending this to anyone. The only good thing about this restaurant is the view
We felt there weren't alot of choices, and the prices were quite high for lunch. The food tasted great, but our service was a bit slow and noticed tables seated after us were served before our table.
Beautiful and delicious birthday lunch! They even put a balloon on our table!
Excellent service and delicious food! Highly recommend.
First time at The Garden Restaurant for my husband and I. We were very impressed with our meals. My husband spent some time in England many years ago and has searched ever since for fish as good as the fish and chips shops in England. He finally found it at The Garden. My steak was cooked to perfection. The garlic mashed potatoes are excellent. When offered gravy I declined as the potatoes stand alone. The fried green tomatoes were a superb appetizer. Our server was very attentive and great. Only negatives was that we were seated by a little waterfall which was great other than it made it too noisy for us to hear each other. Also, it was so busy that our server was stretched a little taking care of so many tables. But all in all, it was awesome! We will definitely go again and have already referred others.
Delicious meal and wonderful service. We really loved the quiet relaxing ambiance with a live piano music.
Salmon was the best!!
Lettuce salad was pieces of lettuce a little brown on the edges and wasn't as fresh as I'd like.
I wished for more vegetables with my salmon. Asparagus was good, but not very many pieces on my plate.
Oh my--that choc. cake was huge!! So rich and to die for!!! Yum, yum, yum
The view looks west and south from the top of the Joseph Smith Building and is usually a clear and expansive view of the valley to the west. The server was attentive and efficient and checked back often, but was not obtrusive to our conversations. The food was great and enjoyed by all. Although it wasn't busy, a reservation is recommended.
Delightful surprise. My first impression was that it looked like a place for old ladies to have lunch and it probably is, but the food is a lot better than expected and pleasing for gentlemen as well. The burrrata is enough for an entree and I’d highly recommend it. My husband had and enjoyed the meatloaf. He doesn’t like traditional meatloaf. The chicken noodle soup was tasty, had house- made noodles and the mashed potatoes in the bottom were a wonderful addition to the flavor and texture. What a great idea.
Top all that off with a roof-level view of the temple and you have a truly unique experience with lovely food. Enjoy!
My companion mentioned that this was the perfect way to cap a night. I have to agree.
I had a Steak dinner. The steak was just fine, but there was a vegetable, Kale I think, that was burned crisp. I could not identify exactly what this was, but it was awful! It was like eating cindered leaves. Completely unpalatable.
We enjoyed our dinner with out of town friends who raved about the view of the Christmas Lights on Temple Square.
The food was acceptable to very good. The rolls are always our favorites. Our server was prompt and very helpful if we had any questions. It was a successful evening of celebration as we had anticipated.
I was very disappointed to be told that they no longer do balloon releases for birthdays. That was the entire reason I chose The Garden. That aside, our waiter did a good job of ignoring us. 2 hours eating and he didn't refill our drinks once. I don't care how busy you are, it is never ok to let your guests go an entire meal without refilling at least once. Definitely won't be going back.
Exceptional, fun, enjoyable, delicious food and relaxing. Oh server was friendly and attentive
