The Garden Restaurant
Highly professional and welcoming team working in classic grandeur.
Excellent food, with a wide choice of dishes.
Excellent service, waiters plentiful, and very professional and attentive, also very smartly dressed.
Dining room very attractive, lovely atmosphere.
Head waiter very professional, and everything very organised, and quietly under control.
It was relaxing and quiet and calming.
My partner and I treated my mother to Sunday lunch on her birthday. We had a lovely time. My mother’s dietary request was delicious. The ambiance and service both top notch. The Rolls Royce of Traditional Sunday Lunches!
The setting is traditionally beautiful, the service was good, but the food... it really was terrible. Menu seemed to be 20 years out of date, boasting local produce (fresh asparagus in November?!). The main course was horrendous, cold vegetables (on cold plates), a fillet steak that could not be cut even with a steak knife (I had to leave 3/4 of it as it was inedible) and a lasting taste of weird truffle pate that lingered for the rest of the evening. Not wanting to make a fuss in front of a room full of diners, I discreetly asked one of the waiting staff to advise the chef that the steak was too chewy to eat. I don’t think she let the chef know as my comment was not followed up. We paid our bill and left without daring to sample dessert! Such a massive disappointment (and a pricey one for inedible food).
Food very plain but nice 70’s style. Waiters great . Traditional decor nice but all needs redecoration particularly in bar where sofas have more than seen there day there all worn out and similar to a nursing home . Drinks good but £17 just to high a price for surroundings an eastbourne. We used to visit regularly we’ve now stopped due to escalate prices an worsening decor that never appears to have work done to keep it tidy
We visit the Garden Restaurant quite regularly, but have recently been very disappointed by the lunch menu. It used to be great; what has happened?
Outstanding service, great atmosphere, lovely food mainly the pancakes:).
Isn’t that incredible at all.
Excellent food very attentive staff helped To make our short stay at hotel very pleasant
Having lived locally for almost 20 years, strangely we have never been to the Grand or the Garden Restaurant. It was my Mother In Law's 83 birthday and the meal was everything we had expected. A traditional hotel and traditional Sunday lunch. Service was impeccable and we were never hurried or rushed. Simple enough menu we all went for beef and it was carved at the table. We all enjoyed it and the portions were perfect. The wine list cater for all tastes and budgets. The Grand is busy for afternoon tea and our only gripe was sitting in the lounge after lunch was all but impossible, as there were no free tables. If you want a traditional Sunday Lunch you cannot beat this and at £31/person wasn't astronomically expensive, We will go back.
Great staff, although the Maitre d’hotel was rather perturbed that we didn’t want to sit where he wanted us to, right next to the three other occupied tables in a very large and almost empty dinning room. Food was good, but for the money I’d expected great.
Wonderful experience. From the minute we arrived we were well looked after. We were not rushed from our cocktail before dinner, browsed the menu and ordered in the bar, went through to the dining room at our leisure. Every member of staff was just perfect.
The Garden Restaraunt was excellent the meal was perfect, the staff were attentive at all times. We could not fault anything ,it was my wife’s birthday and everything was lovely.
Excellent food and wine even for a Sunday lunch with nice atmosphere. Waiters were professional which is unusual for female only table. We arrived at 13:30 last available time slot and by the time we came to dessert they forgot which slightly spoilt an otherwise perfect meal. The comprehensive wine list provided ample opportunity to indulge a lot of money. Did not have much of a selection of digestives. Would recommend.
Very delicious and considerate restaurant. Very decent environment and tranquil atmosphere. It was my fiancée's birthday and I booked the restaurant, leaving a message, telling them that if it was possible to give her a piece of cake with a candle on it. I did not hear from the restaurant and thought maybe I asked too much from them and that's alright. We just headed to the restaurant . Everything was delicious. Customers looked all very decent, shirts, jackets and evening dresses etc. When we reached the dessert phase, to our surprise, the waitress came to us with a piece of chocolate fudge with a light candle, and my fiancée's dessert is written with Happy Birthday in chocolate. It just made our day. A really great trip in Eastbourne. We will definitely visit the restaurant again next summer.
A family lunch for 6 people, wonderful experience from pre lunch drinks in the lounge right the way through to the sweet trolley. The lunch was to celebrate a Golden Wedding Anniversary and everything was perfect, the staff were all very professional and did a wonderful job. The food was all delicious and there were clean plates all round. A very nice touch was writing in chocolate on the two main dessert plates were the words "happy" and "anniversary", such a lovely thoughtful thing to do.
Everything was absolutely perfect from start to finish, food was to die for and staff were amazing in making our lunch a memorable experience 😀😀
Service was appalling. I didn't like my chips. Forgot my partners starter. Brought out a second one for me which I didn't want.
Tried to take my boyfriend here for his birthday present but despite booking we weren't allowed to take our table because my boyfriend didn't have a collar. The dress code on open table just says 'jacket preferred' - not mandatory and nothing about a collar. When a dress code is this strict it should be highlighted when you make the booking. Very disappointed.
The Grand is for that special occasion . Beautiful decor, outstanding service. Lovely experience .
Our recent visit to this venue took us by surprise did not expect to see a hotel with that quality a lovely experience to go with the lovely decor and the service excellent enjoyed the meal very much and would recommend this hotel to anyone who appreciates quality dining with quality sevice
Nice experience to step back in time in a classic environment.
What a treat, wonderful service, subtle lighting from glowing candles, and excellent food. We've eaten here many times, and our last couple of visits for lunch were fine but not 100%. This evening represented a return to top form. Particularly good was the mixed grill, well worth the extra supplement, and the bananas flambeed in brandy at the table was a theatrical and tasty experience!
A delicious lunch, as always. Smoked Salmon fishcake, Confit Lamb with potatoes & seasonal vegetables followed by poached pear with salted caramel & oat crisp. Service, ambiance and food exceptional. Restaurant was tastefully decorated for Christmas.
We booked the Garden Restaurant at The Grand Hotel on Friday and found it excellent. The attentive staff, who seemed to visit our table in time to the music, came back and forth, with the water, the wine, the warm bread rolls, the complimentary appetiser from the chef followed by our 3 courses. All the food was delicious though my husband wondered if a fish knife was not the best thing to cut up his broccoli (which was al dente). We took our coffee in the lounge and this was served with chocolatey sweetmeats We watched as the staff rolled up the carpet in syncopation. Maybe we could have stayed for a dance if we did not have a long drive home? Because we had to drive home we had ordered one glass of wine each, but i noticed after we had paid that we had been charged for 3 glasses.
Grand cuisine and good value
We once again enjoyed an excellent meal here. My wife had smoked duck breast with blood orange jelly, suprême of guinea fowl and coconut panna cotta with pomegranate; I had celeriac and apple soup, grilled bacon chop, and burnt honey parfait with mango (the menu changes weekly). Each dish was expertly prepared and presented and they complemented one another very well. The service was friendly, attentive and respectful and the ambience is spacious and elegant but not stiffly formal. Given the high quality of the cuisine, the bill was remarkably good value - £23 per person for three courses and £17.80 for two large glasses of wine, totalling £63.80 (plus a well-deserved tip). A wholly agreeable experience.
I have eaten in The Garden & Mirabelle restaurants before and The Grand Hotel never fails to deliver quality food at a good price, even if I did not have an Elite card, which entitles you to buy one meal get one free, I would eat there. The food is always fresh & there's a good selection on the menu to satisfy anyone's taste. Looking forward to dining there for my Mum's 70th Birthday, when there will be 9 of us.
This is not the first time I have dined at The Garden Restaurant. This time it was for my birthday and three of us were eating. Menu was to the usual high standard and the service and food were typically of the quality we've come to expect of The Grand Hotel, Eastbourne.
The Grand Hotel is a harkback to another era. The place is beautiful and the service and food were lovely. Retiring to the fireplace for coffee followed by dancing in the lounge, even better!
The Grand Hotel in Eastbourne is one of the finest dining venues in the South East, end of story. I've tried so many restaurants but keep coming back here. The Garden Restaurant is so elegant, and the service is exceptional. Plus, there is a separate vegetarian menu with about five choices of starter and main course. The only restaurants I can think of that better this are vegetarian restaurants. And of course my carniverous companion was delighted with his chicken starter and guinea fowl main. If I could, I would eat here once a week, it's just superb.
and old-fashioned, but charming in its way. Unfortunately the head wiater at first denied having our booking, and then kept us waiting for ages in the bar. The wine list is amazing, though they seemed to have little idea which of their bin ends had ended...
Brilliant service and the food was exquisite. The restaurant is quite formal but still relaxing enough that we could enjoy ourselves and have a romantic evening.
Excellent luncheon. Staff were superb. Food was lovely.
The Garden Restaurant, Eastbourne. As always, a very nice meal.
Service exceptional, very helpful and attentive.
Will be returning again on our next visit to Eastbourne.
Everything was at the highest level!
There should be more warning about dress code!!!
The Garden Restaurant at The Grand Hotel in Eastbourne is such a lovely venue for lunch or dinner. Last night we enjoyed a three course meal for £38 each, including appetisers and sorbets. The service is always perfect, and the food was delicious. There could have been a little more choice, especially for the main courses ( there were four options) but whatever you choose you are guaranteed a beautiful meal. With wine the bill came to £95 for two, which is good value for food of this quality.
The staff in the Garden Restaurant in the Grand Hotel, Eastbourne are very welcoming. The food was delicious as always. The Air Show was in town but the Grand Hotel was an oasis of calm. Thanks once again for a great lunch; try the beef it is delicious! Thank you.
Another return visit to the Garden Restaurant at the Grand Hotel Eastbourne.
All courses very tasty, however, was somewhat disappointed on this occasion with the vegetables. Roasted new potatoes were hard, chewy baked parsnip and the mangetout were tasteless, the only nice thing was the cauliflower cheese.
Service impeccable as usual.
The Grand Hotel in Eastbourne is a fabulous hotel. The staff are all very helpful and the quality of the food in the Garden Restaurant is exemplary. Sunday lunch for a party of 10 was a wonderful experience. The sommelier is extremely knowledgeable.
