The Galley Ratings and Reviews
I HAD THE STEAMED CLAMS WHICH THE WAITRESS SAID WERE LITTLENECK AFTER CHECKING WITH THE KITCHEN. THE SHELLS WERE VERY LARGE AND THE CLAMS LARGE AND CHEWY. THEY SERVE THE CLAM BROTH ON THE SIDE. MY SPOUSE HAD THE HALIBUT AND WAS NOT VERY HAPPY. THE RESTAURANT HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE 1933 BUT THE SEAFOOD ITEMS WE HAD WERE NOT THE BEST.
I had to speak with the manager to take off a four dollar charge for 2 plain cups of hot water on our dinner bill. She said at this restaurant, it is expected to order drinks while dining, therefore the charge. She did take off the four dollar charge after I waited and spoke with her. Since I do not want to have to order a drink with my dinner, and have never had the experience of this requirement not being stated upfront, on a menu or on the website before I make a reservation , I will not be returning.
My buddy and I were looking for a good steak and a beer without the big ticket total while our wives were out shopping. As an LA restaurant owner myself for more than 40 years I've got to say the Galley was a hit for us both. Great job on the traditional menu that fits this place so well. Spencer steak beer and whiskey shots. Fast Service was spot on from all staff with great interaction from our pretty servers. A definite repeat with or without the wives. Great job everyone !
Five stars for honesty, as well as quality all-round. Good ol' fashioned comfort food at decent prices in a comfortable mid-century LA tropical island theme decor with excellent service. Not a high-end, designer designed, fancy place serving exotic food-designer-designed, "pure" food at outrageous prices that will assure your ego or that of any guest that you are succeeding and know whasup. Not recommended for persons with allergies to Christmas lights.
We searched up the galley on your website open table and made a reservation for Mother's Day. Not familiar with the area we showed up the tables were right next to the bar which are filled with a bunch of inebriated people using every cuss word in the book we were able to move to a side room which cut the noise and the language in half but it was not the fine dining we were led to believe. If you're looking for obnoxious bar this is a great place to go. Yes Open table I recommend that you read the label this not is a fine restaurant
Have been dining at the Galley for almost 50 years. We have been using the Galley to celebrate either birthdays, wedding anniversary's. or just for a change of pace, for dinner or lunch.
Many years ago, in 1967 I asked one of the guys that I was working with, "where is a good place to get steamed clams"? He said "The Galley", with out thinking more than a millisecond. We came on that recommendation, and haven't been disappointed to date. Do not change a thing!! Keep your high standards, most important to many restaurants have cut corners and the quality went down, and they lost me and my family as customers.
Great service by Erica. Had the porterhouse which was cooked exactly per my request. Sides were fresh and tasty. Starter House salad with their dressing was also great.
Only small issue was the wine list. Reds were mostly very ordinary except the Ch. Montelena Cab which at the price was the best value and least marked up of the bunch.
Would definitely go back - like the crowded feeling and fancy lighting.
We had a 7:15 reservation and were not seated until 8:05 which would have been ok if the hostess had acknowledged our existence. I had to go up to her several times and each time she looked at me like she had no idea that I was there or that I had a reservation. When we were finally seated, the service and the food was good and I have always liked the ambiance. Unfortunately, the wait was frustrating and don't know if it is worth the hassle to have a good meal when there are so many other options in the area.
Was not impressed with this place. We had to wait even though we had reservations. Super busy place and really small so lots of congestion. Decor was so busy it gave me a headache. Portions were TINY and super pricey, and nothing special taste wise. We had a booth near the bar and could literally feel people breathing down our necks. The only really positive was the wait staff. They were very friendly and attentive.
