I went there at 1PM today and it was closed. We hung out for 1.0 min after 1 but it was not open today. It should not have been bookable on the app then.

I've been dining at The Galley since the 1970s although I hadn't been there in many years. I was craving salad and a bucket of clams and was not disappointed. Possibly the best wedge salad I have ever enjoyed, this one was served on a platter in 4 portions which could easily have been shared at the table. Both presentation and flavor were great as was the garlic bread.

Then came the clams, served steaming and accompanied by a cup of clam broth and butter for dipping. I ordered the appetizer two lb. portion of clams which came with a stainless bowl for the shells but I wonder if the four lb. portion still comes with the galvanized bucket!

Thanks Captain Ron for keeping this memorable place alive and well!

Baked potato obviously microwaved and way undercooked. Broccolini overcooked. Not good service. Generally disappointed.

We’ve always loved the Galley but this dinner was truly exceptional. We ate pretty much every single thing. Best dinner in a long while.

The meal we had was very good—I split the New York steak with my mom and my dad got the halibut. Would be five stars but it was definitely on the pricey side, wouldn’t say the food and drinks were totally worth the price.

NOTE: I've eaten at The Galley before and loved it. However, opentable let me make a reservation for the restaurant on a day that it was closed. I called the darkened, locked restaurant upon arriving, where the voicemail message said that they would open at 5 - why would opentable let me make a reservation for 1PM? I'm never using opentable to book a restaurant again if they can't be trusted to relay proper opening times to guests.

The Galley is a neighborhood classic, with great food and drinks. The decor is over the top kitsch, but pleasant.

Food was delicious but pricey. The inside is beautifully decorated with christmas lights and navy oriented, just perfect for a Navy member of 18 years and a christmas lover!!

The rib-eye steaks were thin and anemic. Looked like it was borrowed from Ponderosa Steak House. I ordered mine rare and there was virtually no inside. It was tough and tasteless. There were 6 of us and we ordered calamari as an appetizer with garlic bread but no small plates were brought to the table. By the time we found a server to bring us small plates, the calamari and bread were cold and anemic. In addition, the salad dressing was weak and tasteless. Cap't Ron, we have been eating at the galley for over 20 years for many family occasions and just a regular dinner. The quality of the food has been declining during the past 5+ years, long before the pandemic. Unfortunately, we have decided to stop patronizing the Galley. The cost of $70. per person was insulting. Thanks for the memories and they were great.

Captain Ron’s ship has sailed, and it sank. Galley- RIP. Galley was a staple in my repertoire for 20 years. I stopped going a few years ago but thought I’d give it try for some comfort food. Horrible. And soooo depressing. Food is bad (although I’ve never been to one, I imagine this is what Applebee’s is like) Frozen food warmed up into a soggy mess. Servers seem depressed and uninterested… like the band playing as the ship goes down. Very unhappy people throwing off a miserable vibe. Everybody on Main Street invested in their outdoor dining experience; but not the Captain. Old tables and chairs on the street. Sad.
And, to top it all off, Ron added a $2.50 “credit card fee” to the bill. Really? That smells of desperation.
Galley was the “oldest restaurant” in Santa Monica. It was funky and cool (sat next to Liz Taylor years ago); but everything comes to end. It’s over Ron. Pull the plug and let her sink in peace.

The ultimate Santa Monica throwback replete with year round Christmas lights and kitschy ship adornments. Food is good, not amazing, drinks are fantastic but the vibe is relaxed, fun and lively. Go for the ambience and unpolished charm, not for fine dining. It’s a classic.

My wife and I have dined here for years. The Galley is our favorite restaurant in Santa Monica! The atmosphere is wonderful. I love the Australian Lamb Chops but the ribeye is great too. A bucket of steamers is good for a starter or try the the calamari. Both are delicious. And don't forget the house salad with Captain Ron's secret salad dressing. So good. I would recommend The Gallery to everyone.
