Was my first time to The Galley and it was long overdue. The food was great and Captain Ron is the man. We had a fantastic dining experience!
From the house salad to clams, Halibut and scallops, everything was superb With the consistently excellent service from charming and capable staff. Thank you wants again Captain Ron!
Ent for happy hour and could not get the bartender or waitress to take out order. Maybe get another bartender to help st that time
I've been a loyal customer.of the Galley for over 25 years.
This is the second time since Christmas Eve that I can say the food was consistently.poor. Fish and steak entrees for our party.were undercooked and had to be returned to the kitchen....Not just our table, but the two tables.adjacent to us as well were returning undercooked filets. If you like medium rare, you should.order medium.....they seem.to have cut the number of.servers on busy nights so.fewer.servers.cover more tables.
I feel.sorry for the servers...Unfortunately, I think the restaurant has seen better times....Time to move on.
Another fun and delicious evening at the Galley, with our daughter and son-in-law. Thrilled to see Chilean sea bass on nightly special, which was superb simply grilled. Other dishes loved at our table included fish and chips, panko crusted halibut, and pasta marina. The staff were delightfully attentive as always, thank you!
Downside was the service. The workers at the restaurant did not make me feel good. I go out to restaurants for the service and hopefully the workers make you feel great to be there.
Awesome food and atmosphere. The waitstaff could not have been nicer and served us a fantastic meal in a timely and professional manner. The owner even came over to say hi and he was terrific as well.....Overall a great experience
We really enjoyed this restaurant and would go back again. I took two out-of-town friends the other night and we enjoyed the wild ambiance (lots of little colored lights everywhere) and we really liked our meals and the service was good. Having metered parking behind the restaurant was also a big plus. I'll be back for sure!
The evening was perfect
The reactions from the table were fine to great
Our server was lovely and attentive.
We would all go back
The Galley is a great restaurant with great waitresses.
A very reliable restaurant. Lots of energy almost hides the fact that the food is very good. We go every so often , for years, and never tire of The Galley.
The restaurant overbooked on Valentine’s Day. So after getting there on time, we had to wait half an hour to get seated. It then took 15 minutes to flag down a waitress to order our drinks. To save time we actually ordered our food and drinks at the same time. The food was excellent but our waitress literally never came back to our table. She never asked if we wanted a second drink, and it took 20 minutes to find someone to get our check so we could pay and get out of there.
I’ve been to the galley before and it’s not normally like that experience, but this last experience will keep me from going back for a long time. Nobody really apologized for the bad service or the wait time to begin with. If you overbook, you should consider maybe giving the customers a free drink or something but completely ignoring us when we did finally get a table was not the way to handle it.
We’ve been there 100 times at least. I have no idea what was happening tonight but I literally never got what I ordered. Never got our drinks. Waited for 30 minutes just to get the check only for it to have the the bags on there that we never got. Every one around us was ha omg the same experience. I could go on and on.
Love The Galley within walking distance in my neighborhood. Restaurant staff are friendly and
we enjoyed the food.
Kitchy and very old landmark restaurant. Food is solidly good despite a mistake here & there. Service is kind & attentive. The interior decor is a wonderful reminder of the history of Venice/ Santa Monica.
Great bar, very fun ambience. Food was mediocre, but reasonably priced. This is not an upscale restaurant, it is more of a casual, fun bar, with good service and "bar food". Would go back..
Always good! We’re local so we’ve been many times. Can’t miss with salad (with the original dresssing) and fried shrimp.
Love this place with it's old school charm. and great food.
Consistently good everything over a long period of time.
It's an old fashioned style place with beautiful colored lights strung up in a place that looks like an old wooden galley with good hearty food reasonably priced.
I was not impressed with The Galley. Because of traffic we were late for our reservation and as a result were seated inside. Way too loud! Could not even carry on a conversation. Menu was limited and food was mediocre.
The serve was good, the ambience was was good and the filet mignon was delicious as per usual!! I left a happy camper!!!
This is our neighborhood seafood restaurant… They have never disappointed. The service and food are always amazing. We spent our New Year’s eve there and I ordered the lobster-which was not inexpensive. It was DELICIOUS. We had a wonderful time. In spite of the fact that they did not have a special New Year’s eve menu, the place was hopping. Everybody knows what a gem this restaurant is.
We had a fun time at the Galley though I thought the food was just OK. My halibut was good and properly cooked. My husband found his new york steak to be tough and flavorless. The side sauces were sweet, even the caper and lemon sauce. The famous salad dressing was uninspired. Our friend loved the lamb chops. It felt a bit like eating at Cocos if it had low lighting, an active bar scene and Christmas lights.
The restaurant does not honor reservations. We had a 7 pm reservation and were not seated until 8 pm.
The restaurant had no silverware and ran out of basic staples like bread for the table.
Food was great. It was a little hectic since it was Christmas Eve. The table was kind of small for three diners, but we adjusted since we knew that the restaurant was really full and possibly over-booked. But still, we have a great meal and great conversation.
Good old fashion neighborhood restaurant with booths and lively bar. Lives up to its name as far as fun "galley" ambiance. Great service, good menu and value. Not for "quiet dining" but very nice for a relaxing meal and a few drinks.
I’ve been coming to the Galley for almost 1/2 a Century. I travel the world and have experienced Michelin Chefs from Paris to Peking (now Beijing of course). The Galley is one of those traditional neighborhood restaurants that doesn’t change, as if frozen in time....and I like that. Capt. Ron’s team is always friendly, the food is always good, the barkeeps are top drawer and can mix a traditional cocktail or mixologistically surprise you. Come in, relax after walking Main and enjoy a Southern CA tradition. It’s like having a BBQ’d meal at home with friends and you don’t have to prep, cook or clean-up👍😄🥂.
We wanted to have a holiday dinner...this was the perfect place! The colored lights were welcoming and quite festive! We had a quick cocktail at the bar before sitting down at our table. The food was fantastic! I had the halibut with panko crust...the crust was very light so it didn't overpower the fish. The serving was large and very tasty!
I hadn't been here in years...maybe decades...so glad we went and will come back very soon!
A great neighborhood restaurant that I believe is one of the oldest in Santa Monica / Venice. Love the ambience and food is pretty good.
With an unbeatable Happy Hour Menu, nearby parking, and great cocktail menu - i don't know why ive never stopped here before. Having supped at every other Main Street Santa Monica eatery, ive driven by The Galley hundreds of times, and i regret being so late to the party.
the only notes i have - Don't be suckered in by how much menu real estate is dedicated to the house salad dressing, its not worth the $6 side salad for Miracle Whip... and Why no Fish & Chips entree?
otherwise, Great good & ambiance.
The food was excellent and our waitress was phenomenal.
Fun! Great date spot!
A local not so hidden gem. Both the bar and patio are used for Happy Hour - great menu. Captain Ron has the best staff - friendly, accurate. Food delicious. Walking in is like stepping into a time machine of wonder - it's always a holiday. Enjoy!
I first dined at the Galley about 1990 when Ron had Millie (may she rest in peace) as his top gal. She was as great as the food and nothing has changed. Our server Irma was the BEST !!
Donald & Helen
good food fun atmosphere, waitress was distracted and forgot to ask for our order for a while but very laid back place.
We've loved this place for years! It's a classic landmark to many.
always energetic wait service with a smile........
Service was slow!!! We were seated quickly and bread and water arrived fast but not our server.
Quirky venue, unique decor - twinkle lights, WW2 posters, old set pieces from "Mutiny on the Bounty" - service is excellent cant be faulted, food is fine, standard regular fare priced reasonably.
