Steamed East Coast Clams
(2lbs) with clam broth and drawn butter
Blackened salmon served on a bed of romaine lettuce and topped with grilled vegetables in a home-made balsamic vinaigrette
Great drinks and good food. All three of us cleaned our plate
Awesome steaks and garlic mashed potato’s are amazing! Great place to eat!!
Covid nightmare. People were sitting two feet from each other and some servers were wearing masks under their nose. The Galley is more about ambiance than food but this time the food was particularly horrible. The steak couldn’t even be cut with a steak knife. The waiter ignored all our requests such as light dressing on the salad and meat rareness. The service was horrible. On top of all of this they raised their prices significantly. After 50 years of being a loyal customer will not go back
The restaurant is fun and I love the atmosphere. The food is always good.
This restaurant has a great vibe and yummy food! Love it!
Our first freshly-vaxed indoor dining experience at one of my all-time favorite restaurants. We had a great time and the food was great. There’s no restaurant interior more cheerful than The Galley.
Great place enjoyed our dinner there highly recommend
The steamers were better than any I've had on the East Coast, and our waitress was lovely.
Kitschy old LA vibe with yummy food and great service. Loved it.
We made our reservation for 4/3 to celebrate a birthday as we flew in from Texas. We were so excited to visit the oldest restaurant there in Santa Monica. The food we did receive was excellent, however the service was absolutely HORRIBLE. Our waitress failed to be adequately acquainted with the menu and did not know the smallest details such as if French fries came with the burger. She initially stated they did to only later come back and indicate they were separate (no big deal as we simply wanted to ensure they would come with the order). Once the food began coming out our table was missing quite a few items. In total we were missing a side salad, Brussels sprouts, and two orders of French fries. In addition to this our waitress NEVER came to ask if our drinks could be refilled, how our food tasted, or even how we were doing. I was so incredibly disappointed as I had such high expectations for this establishment. I alerted my waitress of the items missing as I found her standing near the bar speaking with another waitress, she ran off to the kitchen and it was the other waitress who turned and apologized. Later the owner came by and offered us a brownie which we declined since we brought our own cake to which he SO GENEROUSLY said the plating fee would not be charged nor would the cost for the items THEY FAILED TO PROVIDE lol. Would I go back, not if my life depended on it. Was the food good? Heck yes! Super sad...moral of the story, come on The Galley, do better.
The service was great. The food was yummy. The garlic bread costing $9.00 is ABSURD! It's more expensive than a side dish. The wine was perfect. The back patio is so nice and comfortable.
Always good food and great service. A happening lively atmosphere
Too crowded, too close. We were next to a table with 8 young people celebrating a birthday party. I felt crammed in next to them and they were very loud. My Halibut tasted soggy...everything was a bit disappointing. I have enjoyed it in the past but I won't be running back there.
Dealing with Covid was involved. So I’m not effected by this evenings meal. Everybody’s just trying to darndest.
We sat outside on their not very heated patio. The heaters above our table were pretty useless. We were off in a corner and our server seemed to forget about us a bit. Thank goodness for the amazing bus staff!!!!
The food was good. We ordered 4 lbs of steamed clams and got 2 pounds. No big deal, but how did our server get that wrong? We were very clear that we wanted the 4 lbs and I even pointed to it on the menu
My dinner companion ordered something with his food and it never showed up. By the time the server showed up to ask how we were doing and we explained about the omission, we were done eating
The check came and there was an extra charge for credit card use, but I was paying cash. I wonder how many people who were paying cash would notice that extra service charge for credit cards. There was no mention of it on the menu or by our server when she handed us the check. Granted it was only under two dollars, but still, somebody should’ve said something. I caught it and asked to have it removed from our check.
We’ve been eating at the Galley for more years than I can even remember and we’re pretty happy with it overall. None of the issues will stop us from coming because it’s a wonderful neighborhood gem
Outstanding. Prompt friendly service
We were visiting from GA and didn’t realize that California was still restricted. Although we had to sit outside, they had heaters that made it comfortable. Ruby was a great server!
Only problem is we were freezing! No fun! They need real heaters they have the ones that look pretty but do nothing. Its always been one of our favorite main street stops!
Seemed more crowded than previous week. Made me a little nervous having others so close by.
Just a Note: Miss the old bread source served. It went so nice with food. Newer bread source is too small and too thinly sliced.
They were changing menus and didn’t have half the menu
The food was fantastic, service was great. Overall 10/10 experience
As always, excellent. The new menu items were great and so glad we could still have our ribeye too
Great time and the service was great
Not bad, but not great. Just mediocre food and service, although the back patio is a nice setting.
Nice hostess, great service, amazing food. It is no wonder that the Galley is one of the best places to dine in Los Angeles
They have a new chef who is really good! Had filet mignon which was the best I've ever had there. Steamed clams still amazing! Love this place so much !!
This was my first time at the Galley during the pandemic, so I wanted to review. First, I would only recommend eating here if you are seated on the back patio, as it is warmer. The sidewalk seating is not that great and very cold. Second, this place is a dive and the people who work there act like it is. I was greeted by the food server not with "Hello" but instead with "you have not been waiting that long before I got to you." The food is was not that good, and it took the food server lengthy periods of time to get me cocktail sauce and extra marinara sauce, as the angel hair had almost no sauce on it when it was served and I had asked for cocktail sauce when I placed my order. Only thing they did right was make a good martini. Finally, it took them almost 25 minutes to run my credit card because the strip was not working and the food server refused to manually enter the number. Instead she came back to the table and said she did not have time to enter the number because "I have tables" implying she was too busy to be inconvenienced. The food server offered to waive her tip, but I insisted on tipping her.
Their menu has been changed to a more limited menu.
Always a favorite to go to!!
first place to go since lock down over....
food always great even with a limited menu!
The place was closed!!!!
Hands down my favorite restaurant in the city!! Love the people, the vibe, the food, the drinks, and the clientelle. Lots of regulars which is always fun. It's all just so perfect! Steamed clams are epic, also love the filet mignon , and the fried shrimp.
Made a reservation from 6:00pm-7:30 pm were asked to move outside and was told the restaurant closed at 7 however after feeling being racially profiled we left and returned around 7 and the restaurant was still open with a ton of seats available!
There are a few tables outdoor in the patio.
We felt very comfortable dining here.
The service was good.
Our food arrive hot and was delicious.
We ordered the steak for two with two sides.
There was so much food that we took home much of it.
I think anyone would feel right at home here.
This establishment has been a fixture in Santa Monica for
decades--and there is a reason for that.
Comfortable , safe , and good food
This was so good and the the out dining was amazing we sat on the back patio and and it was really well lit and nice ambiance. Definitely coming back again!
A very pleasant dinner. Good cocktails. Burger, salmon salad, and shrimp scampi were all good. Friendly service and fair prices. We'll go again soon.
Very good quality food served in a nice outside patio.
Always great food and service! Best Filet Mignonette and lush baked potato! Ambiance romantic and retro . Servers don’t interrupt conversation.
Everyone in our party of six loved the food! The famous salad dressing lived up to its hype, one woman said the chili was the best she'd ever tasted and my scampi over pasta was divine. The back patio had nice ambiance and we were sheltered from the breeze and away from the sound of the street traffic. Our server, Kimberly, was fantastic!
love the food always consistent
Erin a great waitress... always so helpful and so pleasant
