We were disappointed. We were going for the coulotte steak but they stopped serving it. Otherwise was good.
Delicious Australian Lamb Chops and Rib Eye. Nothing fancy, just a great piece of protein! Service was excellent and the drinks are just how they should be at an old skool restaurant. 2nd time here for dinner and drinks and will not be our last :)
Always so much fun and delish!!!
I enjoyed all of it!!
food , ambiance, service..
funny, i never visited the place when i lived in Santa Monica for 16 years but now that i don't and we needed to dine in SM I said I wanted to try it.. and was glad we did!!
Perfect as always.
Took my 20 year old daughter for dinner. Both my wife and daughter love the place because the food is good (enough), but moreover it is the kitschy ambiance that brings us back. It would be a whole lot better review if 2 middle of the road fish dinners (ok fish and one cafeteria-grade side), a Mai Tai (real good), a diet coke, and cup of chili did not come to $100 before tip. We don't go there all the time; maybe 3 to 4 times a year. So I just enjoy the company of my girls and try not to think about the check. After we always take a walk down Main- very pleasant. Sunday early evenings are best. It's not crowded so you can actually carry on a conversation. When it's packed (Fri Sat nights) be prepared to shout across the table to your companions.
The Galley hasn't changed since I first went there 25 years ago! Thank you!!
Superb all around. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, food delivered promptly, got all orders correct, reasonably priced.
Sound absorbers need to be installed on the ceilings bc it was hard to hear each other talk across the table. I like the free bday brownie and sourdough bread. Food was good, but it would be a better deal to bring back 2 free sides instead of 1 with the salmon, halibut and filet mignon @ $29. Love the year round festive colorful lights.
Always a favorite. The Galley salad with the secret dressing is a must. There are so many options. Sometimes I just have a crab cake or fried calamari appetizer for my main course. This time my wife and I split the plank steaks, medium. Still enough to take home. My mom really enjoyed her flilet mignon salad, rare. Always a pleasant dinner at reasonable prices
Always one of my favorite places to go. Good drinks, good food. Captain Ron is always there to be sure the service is solid.
I love the Galley, every time. A really great, consistent menu with lots of choices and super friendly staff.
I have enjoyed their wine promotions to try something new and hopefully one day, I'll be lucky enough to be there on the day they roll the prices back. The atmosphere is just delightful. It's got kitsch and a dash of whimsy and the blowfish chandeliers just make me smile. I always take guests from out of town and it never disappoints.
Gomez is great! Always enjoy your house salad. My steak was way undercooked for a medium. My friend enjoyed his fish.
Asked for steak medium it came raw - not rare. Should have sent back
We enjoyed a wonderful, relaxed meal outside on the secluded quiet patio. The food was amazing and the wait staff were attentive and pleasant. Highly recommend!
Love the service and definitely love the food, the Galley is very interesting and unique, & beautiful interior that's old school
We eat here all the time. The food and team here are the best. If we were English we would call this our Local!
The food was good, I really enjoyed my halibut. The outside patio area was very cute, we enjoyed sitting out there for our meal. The service was lacking. No refills and we waited forever to get our check and then waited forever for her to come back to get our card. We ended up just checking out at the bar.
Wife and I had the Australian lobster tail and the 22 oz. porter house steak. Excellent and a good value compared to higher end restaurants. This is a good choice for great food in a casual atmosphere. Recommend the patio as it is less noisy than the main dining area.
Love the patio. Much quieter. Pleasantly surprised. Was it the best food or the most innovative? No, but it is a good menu for fish as well as meat, so it served our threesome of different food tastes well.
Kaitlin is the best waitress ever! She knew the menu and her suggestions were spot on
We love the Galley. It’s offbeat & a nice contrast to Venice’s trendy restaurants.
I usually get the steamed clams (5-stars) but this time ordered the ribeye steak cuz my granddaughter wanted to share it. SO tough and sinewy. Ugh.
As always, The Galley has wonderful service and excellent food. The filet mignon and the salmon are consistently superior. One of our family members uses a wheelchair, so I am always appreciative of the staff helping to accommodate this. I love the colorful decor and holiday lights. Would be nice, though, to have a bit more light at the table, because it's really hard to see the bill when the table is so dark. Thanks for a terrific meal!
The Galley is an institution. From it’s kitch decor, to the regulars at the bar, this is one not to be missed! Food is always reliably excellent, definitely the best steamers around. And, no matter the crowd, when you reserve on open table, they seat you promptly, something that’s rare in this town. Enjoy!
Food is not equal to Denny’s!
Onion rings were frozen defrosted 91% breading
First time here. The food was ok. Crab cakes were good, garlic mashed potatoes were bland. Very nice historical decor and a lot of energy in the restaurant. Service was fine. Will likely not give it a 2nd chance.
It was our first time there. Wonderful all the way around!!! We’ll be back!
We chose the galley for our end-of-holiday final meal in Santa Monica. Turned out great. As we entered we were entranced by the decor, a mixture of nautical items and millions of fairy lights. Really fun and a lovely ambience. Seating is in secluded booths and we could hear ourselves talk quite easily even though the restaurant was quite full including folks at the bar. The menu offers plenty of choice and yet avoids pretention and fussiness. Dishes we could understand without a dictionary! I had the clam chowder starter and my partner had the shrimp scampi. Both were nice and tasty. We both selected the rib-eye steak as a main. Again, well cooked and very juicy. One of us couldn't eat it all! And we had no room left for a dessert. The wine menu was perhaps a little sparse, but we enjoyed the local Pinot Noir all the same. We would happily visit again or maybe you could open a London branch?
Thank you Captain Ron and all the Crew!
Food great as always. Feels like a warm blanket
Good for a lively time, we enjoyed it! Not necessarily for a "quiet" dinner.
Great neighborhood joint. Good martinis and Xmas lights year round.
75th Birthday Celebration.
I had not been to The Galley in at least 25 years but thought it would be a good place for a birthday dinner. I was right. We had a party of six, we were seated promptly, everyone liked their food, thought the prices were great, and enjoyed the "kitchy" decor. The owner came by to check on us and make certain we were having a good time, which surprised us since that happens so rarely these days. My friends asked multiple times why I waited 25 years to return (I live in SM), and I really didn't have a good answer. All I know is I will be back again soon. It is definitely worth a visit for good food, friendly service, and reasonable prices.
Great funky place that never changes and I am glad for it. Great drinks and food with an easy going beach city atmosphere.
The Galley is a proven performer. Great bar, solid food, constant as the sun.
The hostess needs to check the attitude.
I already posted on Yelp. Been going for 35 years plus. will not return
