The Funky Door Ratings and Reviews
The wine was way to pricey for the amount I got. It was good but too much money. The food was good as well but, it was pricey too. I will choose a different drink and menu item next time. If I get to go again.
Our waitress was busy but, she did a great job. I could not leave her a tip unfortunately because I spent all the money I had for my budget that night.
Restaurant had Valentine’s Day meal special. We ordered the special unbeknownst that the special was per person not a couple. The server or the menu did not indicate that the price was per person. When asked to speak with a manager the front desk associate simply gave us her name and offered a free drink for our next visit. We felt a bit taken advantage of and will not be going back there again.
Getting better all the time in terms of service. Food is very good. Menu is varied, offers something for everyone. Live music can be much too loud if you sit downstairs. The Ahi tuna is fabulous and be sure to try the truffle fries! We will keep going back.
It was very busy, had a shared server, with a table of 30. Why would management do that?? We hardly saw him, several times trying to stop another server to request anything (such as empty drinks for almost 30 minutes) a manager never stopped by to apologize, in our 2 1/2 hours there, not from meandering, but editing that long for our food. Food was not what it usually is, love this place, but very disappointed in this visit.
My wife and I went to the Funky Door for an early Valentine's Day dinner. When you plan a night away from the kids, and take time to make these plans, including a reservation, you expect certain things. First off, we were not seated at our reservation time. We should have known that was a sign of things to come. We were seated in a side room, which seemed ok, given it was a little bit quieter. Our service was horrible. Our wine flight arrived with no description of which wine was which. The highlight of our dinner was the fondue. That was it, as our steaks both arrived overdone - my medium rare was a medium well. They corrected the issue, but no visit from chef or manager, no offset on bill.
Long delays between courses, no glasses provided with bottled hefeweizen beer, no fondue forks provided. When you spend nearly $200 (!) this is not what you should expect. We won't be returning, many other worthy choices in Lubbock.
Great place. We had two couples cancel out on us so they were just so gracious in reseating us, especially since this was Saturday night. Great food and excellent menu. The Chilean Sea Bass was not quite up to par but everything else was perfect and at appropriate temperatures and such. Highly recommend.
The Funky Door is a very nice restaurant. Unfortunately the regulars at the bar seem to think they own the place, and make passing by the bar to the restrooms impossible. The management might want to ask them to be considerate of the other patrons, so everyone can enjoy their visit.
Funky Door was good as always. Fondue good, dinner good, wine selection good. On live music nights, the music tends to be a little loud, so prepare to yell at all those around your table if you want to have conversation. Maybe they'll get this toned down a bit over time.
fondue dishes were the best part of the meal. Had the gouda cheese fondue with veggies for an appetizer, which i recommend. My filet was disappointing. It was cooked Medium rare to perfection but the quality of meat is something you may order from a chain "fast food" style restaurant. Another member of my party ordered the Bone In NY strip and same quality of meat. The dessert fondues are incredible. Wine selection was above normal for Lubbock.
Great décor both outdoor and indoor. Very well dressed and pretty crowd. The lighting is a bit dark so you might want to have a small flashlight or your phone handy to read the menu, although there are areas that are well lit, just depends on what seat you get. Great food and great service. Live music when we were there and it was a very nice evening.
3 of the 4 of us received good food. Everything on my plate was cold when received. Sent back (sea bass) and didn’t receive again until the others were done eating. Unfortunately it was still cold. The manager was apologetic (I had to track her down because the server didn’t offer). Very unfortunate because it is a high priced restaurant and should know how to properly prepare food. Was given a gift card but unfortunately went home hungry not having received a meal.
I had a reservation, however we still had to wait 20 minutes, but the manager accommodated us with a glass of champagne. We were seated in a room right under the stairs, air vent and large window. It was freezing with the air conditioner on and so loud with footsteps. We waited another 25 minutes before I had to find the hostess and tell her we were never waited on. The waitress was fine but clearly spread thin and would hardly come to our table. We had to ask to get the air conditioner turned off and she said to move to the other side of the table as if the whole vent wasn’t directly over our whole table. Not my best experience at the Funky Door, and I’m sad about it.
It was the most rude humiliating experience of my life. 😩. The waitstaff stoke a tip from my friend. Our food was so wrongly cooked. And to top it off the hostess came and tried getting us to leave because they needed our table. It was horrible. Never going again. And I’ll be sure to tell everybody I know how bad it was.
Steaks were severely over-cooked and had to be sent back. Second attempt was better but were a solid medium-well even though we ordered medium. The service was very good and we were offered to have our steaks comped. We ate the steaks and insisted we pay for them but I appreciated the gesture. All in all it was a great experience and we’ll definitely be back.
The facility is very nice. The wine list is a little overwhelming. We had a nice time, but our service was somewhat slow and when the music started, it was a bit loud for any conversation even though we were upstairs. Our food was good, but not outstanding and my dish was luke warm......not hot.
I have eaten at the Funky Door multiple times before with much better experiences. The service this time was poor, even though the restaurant was not nearly as busy as it usually is. It took almost 20 min to get drinks after they were ordered, and took about the same time to get refills. The filet was very bland for such an expensive meal. We did not add on any “extras” ( such as truffle butter, etc) because a good steak really shouldn’t need any. The lobster linguini, however, was very good. Overall i was very disappointed with the service.
I was looking for somewhere different to take out of town guests. I'm also not a huge brunch fan but decided to give it a try because I saw more substantial meal offerings than I typically find on a brunch menu. My guest and I both had the Steak Benedict, one with Truffle Fries and one with Sweet Potato Fries. They were phenomenal and I am already planning my next visit.
