About The Frog and Turtle
What is a gastro pub?” Gastronomy is the study of preparing and consuming food. A pub is a neighborhood spot for affordable food and good times. When you combine the two you get a neighborhood spot with a focus on food prepared from scratch with fresh ingredients.

The Frog and Turtle Ratings and Reviews
Our daughters 34th birthday and she asked to go to the Frog and Turtle. Let alone how good the food is but for her it was all about the homemade donuts! Everyone had a little twist on their orders and the kitchen didn't disappoint. Myself i asked to spice up my dish and it was perfect.
Eating here was one of the weirdest experiences of my life. I was having brunch with 6 friends to celebrate my birthday when one of my friends discovered a large metal screw in her mouth. Her meal had arrived with a large metal screw in it. Thankfully, she only sustained some scratches in her mouth before she realized what it was and removed it from her mouth. This in itself was pretty crazy, but then when we told the owner/chef that my friend should not have to pay for any part of her meal (including her two mimosas), he was outraged and angrily aggressive with us. He insisted that comping her meal (only the food) was enough and argued with us and tried to provoke us, accused us of saying we would refuse to pay for her drinks, which we did not say. We were extremely understanding when the screw was first found, remained polite and we even apologized to our waitress, feeling sorry that she was in this uncomfortable position. I have never been accosted by the owner of a restaurant I was eating at, and certainly never as a result of his own, rather grave mistake. I will not be back. My friend paid for her drinks.
This is my second experience at the frog and turtle. The first time I went my meal was too much of the kitchen sink.
I was careful ordering this time and it was really good...just a salad and fries. My friends all loved their experience the portions are good size and nice quality. Good service. Very limited wine list, but good mixed drinks!
Once again an outstanding meal. Starting with the cheese and charcuterie plate always a great place to wet your appetite. I had the chicken one of my favorite on the menu. Finally a slice of pie ala mode. Thanks for the great service Emily. See you next time.
We were there for the first time, having heard from many friends how good it was. Our service was efficient and friendly, the food was very good, the noise level was a little high with the background (recorded) music, and the wait for the food was significant, but acceptable. A bit high priced for the value, but maybe I'm not as aware of restaurant prices at trendy places as I used to be. Overall, however, a very nice time and a very nice place, especially for a special occasion!
The Frog and Turtle is a real find. Delicious and creative food in a warm pub atmosphere. Loved the pulled pork tacos with mole. Lots on the menu to appeal to any palate. And the live music was professional and spot on. Take your crew to downtown Westbrook and enjoy this gem. Just be sure to book your table in advance. The F&T is usually hopping!
LOVE this place! I’ve been here many times for dinner. However was recently disappointed in their brunch. We were told they are “known for their donuts” but buyer beware these are not donuts. They are more closely related to overdone churros (very crunchy & VERY GREASY) & 2 of the 3 donuts tasted exactly the same since they were predominately greasy hard churros even tho 1 has chocolate & other stuff & one had raspberry. The toppings flavors were so slight. My husband and I️ agreed it was basically like “fair food” you know, greasy snacks you get from a cart at the local fair.
The mimosas are $8 ea & pretty mediocre so not really worth the money.
All that said: our entrees were AMAZING. I️ had the most delicious omelette with bacon onions & cheese. It was very big and very filling!! I️ chose a croissant, which was pretty dry so I️ ended up not having much of that, & their potatoes were great! However you don’t get a lot so I️ recommend getting a side. My husband got a bene special they had that day with sausage and a special sauce. He said 1 of the poached eggs was perfect & the other wasn’t so great but overall loved the dish.
The Donuts were amazing, bloody Mary’s delicious and the Eggs Benedict yummy but very loud for a small restaurant! My 9 yr old daughter loves going to new restaurants but does not want to come back because of the noise! Sorry! (But Mom and Dad will be back!😉)
This place is amazing! Made from scratch meals with a focus on quality as well as quantity. Worth the drive if you don't live in Westbrook. Ample parking. Recommended reservations, but I have often found space at the bar in short notice moments. Love the live music several nights a week. This place is the gem of New England!
We arrived with a reservation for 5, we were shown a booth that is small for 4. That was the only disappointing part of the meal other than the service at the beginning of the night. They kind of ignored us for a while after we got seated and some of us got drinks. They are very busy in there and the meals were fantastic. We knew we were in for a longer time as they make everything to order. Overall it is the same every time we go, fantastic.
We were very disappointed this time at the Frog and Turtle. The wait staff was over whelmed and under staffed, the food took way to long to come, and when I finally got my pizza it was burnt beyond being edible. The next pizza took over 20 minutes to come and I could t enjoy eating it because everyone was waiting for me to leave. Then, when the bill came, it hadn’t been adjusted at all, like nothing was wrong. All in All, very disappointed given we dropped over $100 there.
The charcuterie and cheese plate was very good and the wings were delicious. We had a couple salads at the table as well, they were fantastic and very well constructed. I had the special which was smoked duck Mac and cheese, it was quite good. My son had the kitchen burger which was made at the kitchens whim. It was too over the top. My wife had the shepherd's pie crepe and liked it a lot.
Went for Sunday Brunch, while they disclose that there will always be a 30 minute wait for food, in total it ended up being 30 minutes before we ordered and then an additional 45 before our food arrived. Food was good - nothing stellar. We were a large party so some of the delay is understandable. I just wasn't expecting it to be a two and a half hour brunch.
We hadn't visited the Frog and the Turtle for quite awhile so decided to revisit on a spur of the moment Friday evening. So glad we did, food was better than we had remembered...both of us choosing the pork shank special. Comfort food at its best. Shared the bruschetta app, so fresh and flavorful. We won't wait long to return!
Was billed as Euro style unique food, including authentic Canadian poutine. It was not poutine (no squeeky curds, not vinegary enough to be tangy) was more like poor steamed potatoes with grocery store mediocre white cheddar (these were not curds) melted over the top, gravy was way too thick; more like Disco Fries if anything. Also, most of the entrees were 30% over priced. $16.00 for a plain hamburger + a slice of tomato + lettuce - nothing else - is ridiculous. Additional sauce (including mayo) was an extra cost. The flat breads were chintzy, unimaginative, and nothing to talk about.
Insanely loud music and loud patrons fought each other for attention. Could NOT carry on a conversation even across the small dinner table. This is not a gastro-pub, it's a beer hall cranked up. We were there supposedly after the family supper hour, so it should have been more workable; when we finally left we both had ringing ears and bad headaches from the "ambiance".
The kitchen took over 50 minutes to prepare the food. The server was very diplomatic in explaining why, when we could hear him. The only saving grace was the excellent server (even though he had way too many tables to attend to). We tipped him more than double the going rate, because he deserved it.
There are too many equal/better places to go and enjoy better food, in the Portland area.
My boyfriend and I met our 2 friends here who were trying it for the first time. Our waitress, who did not introduce herself at all, she was tall with short black hair, was very aggressive coming up to the table and trying to push specials in our faces, not once just giving us a minute to look at the drink menu. She became easily annoyed when we asked for a few minutes to look at the menu. When it came time to order my friend asked just for a cheese pizza no sauce due to red sauce causing her to become ill., the waitress was argumentative about it being so plain and just having cheese on it. The rest of us ordered and my boyfriend and I specifically asked to order a SMALL order of poutine for the table on our check. The poutine comes and it's a large, we say something and she said not to worry about it, then our food comes and my friends pizza is covered in red sauce and we all have our food, the hostess actually came over and took care of it, by noticing something was wrong, our waitress came over annoyed saying you guys might as well eat because her pizza is going to be awhile.....she did not once say she was sorry for the mix up. I am sorry but that was rude. So she finally gets her pizza and we all are tougher 20 mins later and we get our bills and nothing was comped for the mistake and she had charged both bills for the poutine that we specifically ordered. We always come to the Frog and Turtle and have great food and staff but last night put a bad taste in our mouths. The waitress acted as though we were bothering her every time we ordered something. I would really like to know why this happened and we were treated this way. I am very disappointed. I look forward to hearing from you.
We have been several times - enjoy the food and the staff. Last two times we have been we were stuffed into a table that wasn't big enough for our party. It happens, this last time my wife asked about a table that was set for six (number in our party) and was told it was reserved. When my wife said we made reservations yesterday she moved us to a slightly larger configuration- but we were still crowded around a table for 4.
The part that irritates me is , the whole 90 minutes we were there no on sat at the table for 6.
We will be back....but it will be awhile
Frog and Turtle is great for any meal. This will have been my third visit and I'm always happy! I am vegetarian and there is always an option for me. I do prefer breakfast foods, so I like to go in the mornings. Their donuts are awesome! The owner found out that we were there celebrating our day-after-the-wedding and they took off the donuts from our bill. So kind! I loved the eggs and fruit plate and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of food for $9. The potatoes are amazing! Highly recommended. They're usually busy, so it's always a good idea to make a reservation via open table!
