The Frog and Turtle
Lovely breakfast menu with plenty of options! Our waitstaff was friendly, attentive and efficient—great combination. I appreciate being able to make a reservation for a small group. Many restaurants won’t do that! Be sure to order the donuts!!
We were not impressed. They were out of all Crepes (how can you’ve out-it’s batter). The flat bread pizza was thick and doughy with copious amounts of sauce and thick chunks of meat. Very heavy/hearty.
First time visit and was pleasantly surprised by the Great food and local feel.
The food here is amazing. Everything is made to order and the staff are great. Overall my wife and I love it.
Great for burgers and beer. Also usually some very good entrees fro dinner.
Seems as though they were a little short staffed, our waitress had to be hailed to take our order after waiting 20 minutes. Worth the wait, though- the donuts were crisp and flavorful and each of us had an excellent breakfast meal. Highly recommend even when service is slower than usual!
Frog and Turtle is awesome! The eggs benny are out of this world.
Easily the best restaurant in the Portland area. Chef James is a true master and the staff are simply amazing; whether a first time visit or a regular, you feel at home.
Unfortunately to no fault of the restaurant we were adjacent to three tables of drinking women alternating between shrieking and cackling at the tops of their lungs. We couldn't hear the waitress or each other. Of course that's to be expected near the bar or bandstand but we were in the corner of the dining room. More a suggestion to patrons, don't be louder than necessary and ask the loudest in your party to maybe tone it down a bit.
The food was excellent but the overall experience was negative so we probably won't go back. Unfortunate because otherwise we like the place.
Fantastic visit, as always. Gigantic portions, ridiculously friendly and attentive service - they continue to impress, year after year.
The Juke Joint Devil Band was awesome, as was Jamie the bartender and patrons in general.
This is a great place to hear live music every Wednesday and Friday! The food is outstanding!
Waitress was amazing...food satisfying..
I have never had a bad experience at the Frog and Turtle. Great music, great food and atmosphere and awesome waitstaff! Plus an owner who cares very much about his patrons and about the community at large. Love the Frog and Turtle!!
The Frog & Turtle once again has impressed my taste buds! And the chef even prepared a ceviche that I requested (I had seen from another customer’s posting.)
The skins w/pulled pork was incredible as well as the lobster dinner, desserts are killer!
Looking forward to the next time:)
This is our second time to the Frog and the Turtle and we were as equally pleased this time as last. The service(Lucia) was wonderful and attentive, the food was made to order and the overall experience was worth the drive and the price. The Frog and Turtle is a gem in Westbrook and I would recommend to others. If you like sheperd's pie--get the sheperds pie crepe--it s outstanding. The special pork loin chop was very well prepared and drinks and the salad( dark greens) was excellent and we shared it. Overall a wonderful evening.
Always an excellent experience- food, service and atmosphere. Gourmet food served unpretentiously.
Everything about this place was seriously amazing! The food was fresh, delicious, and unique. The drinks were awesome. My husband had Alagash and I had three mock tails which were all different and delicious! I had he jerk seasoned salmon (which was fabulous and delicious) and my husband had the kitchen burger (which was not only entertaining but also yummy and worth the wait)! It is a little on the pricey side but I’d say for a special occasion or a date night it is well worth it! We did not stay for the live music so our dinner was peaceful and quiet so we could have conversation the entire time. Our waitress was kind and helpful and made our dining experience that much better. We both highly recommend this place to anyone!
We had a very nice evening listening to live music and eating good food. The wings are flavorful, the calamari was excellent. Burgers were also great. The flatbreads were good but they were more like traditional crust pizza vs the thin crispy crust I would expect from "flatbreads". We'll be back!!
Father’s Day. We were seven adults and an infant. I had the special steak and eggs Benedict, it was delicious. I asked them to spice it up and it was exactly what I was looking for. I had an espresso martini which was very good. No one in our party went away hungry! The service was also very good.
Service and food was great, unfortunately the music was too loud and I'm a professional musician.
Honestly, a fantastic place. I have been there twice now, once for my anniversary and another just for a date night. The most recent time the Old Souls were playing for the Friday night dinner and it was absolutely spectacular. Great music, food, atmosphere. Although a little on the expensive side, it was well worth it!
Another amazing meal. We love it here. The mussels are so amazing. It’s one of our favorite date spots.
Best meal I’ve had in a while! So delicious and fresh; will definitely go again.
Brunch was fantastic, Home made donuts delicious. Food was great, were able to take our time and catch up. Will go again. It was nice to be able to make a reservation
I thought the food and service was great , although my partner had eggs and he did not feel they were cooked enough for him, he did not tell the waitress so not your fault. We did do 3 donuts, yummy!
The menu is nice, options for every taste. The specialty drinks are out of this world...wonderfully crafted with fresh ingredients. The staff are friendly and the service was fast.
8 of us Had a great time for our friends retirement gathering. Food was delicious, atmosphere was fun, one of us said the music was kinda loud during dinner, one of us (me) was very pleased to realize it was Don Campbell singing!:). It is loud regardless of music to hear in a big group setting, but then that might be just me??
Was very pleased for the surprise special dessert for the retiree, nice touch!
Great food as always. My wife loves the "John Candy" doughnut as an appetizer. Excellent service, good value.
Great Mother’s Day Brunch
The food is excellent.
Went to meet with friends and hear the band, but was very impressed by the menu and the excellent service. I have described the menu to friends as "foodie comfort food" - interesting takes on old favorites (Shepherd's Pie Crepes, anyone?) and everything made fresh to order. Wait staff offered helpful hints for ordering and made sure that we knew the entrees would take at least 30 minutes due to the fact that they were all freshly prepared. Reservations are highly recommended, especially on live music nights.
Food was amazing, service was one of the best experiences I have ever had. Definitely going to make more appearances
Terrific donuts! Brunch eggs delicious. Very noisy. Every time someone opened the front door, a blast of wind made the seats near the bar quite chilly (needed to eat wearing my coat).
Very friendly service and good food.
The best part about the Frog & Turtle is usually the drinks! I had a glass of old vine Zinfandel that was very good and the lemon meringue martini for dessert, which tasted just like the pie! Burgers were also good, if not a challenge to eat. The weird part of the dinner was when my water glass worked it’s own way off the table and shattered on the floor! The same thing happened at another table! They might want to think about drink napkins or coasters to keep this from happening.
We always have a good time at the F&T. Food was amazing. Service was stellar. It’s just a bit loud sometimes, but you can live with that, because everything else makes up for that.
We love The Frog and Turtle especially for brunch, but I have to say this time we were seated in the back room with what we assumed was a baby shower; and couldn’t even hear each other or our server at the same table. I don’t know it it was the acoustics or what but how noisy it was in that tiny room was way too much. However, another outstanding meal as always and fabulous service. We will be back again and again.
Had the seafood Captains Plate, it had the potential to be very good but was waayyyyy too salty.
Have been here before and totally enjoyed the experience, but Friday night some of the food fell short. There were 6 of us for dinner, a birthday celebration. Appetizers were very good, the mussels fantastic. My grandsons thought their burgers were too charred, one was left half eaten. I was looking forward to my flatbread pizza, it arrived mostly burned(black), inedible! I scraped some of the topping off, but gave up, even that was dry. The server asked if I wanted anything else to replace the flatbread, but by that time decided no, she did deduct the price of the from the bill. I was surprised that the kitchen would send that to the table, it was ruined. Dessert was delicious, chocolate mousse and the creme brulee. Not sure I would go back, need to give it time and more thought.
Exceptional food! Made fresh to order. Local ingredients, local beer, perfection!
