About The Frog and Turtle
What is a gastro pub?” Gastronomy is the study of preparing and consuming food. A pub is a neighborhood spot for affordable food and good times. When you combine the two you get a neighborhood spot with a focus on food prepared from scratch with fresh ingredients.

The Frog and Turtle Ratings and Reviews
Valentines date with my wife. The food was beyond delicious and very eloquently done. The Valentine Day 5 course dinner special was perfecto. Music and atmosphere was good. It was nice and warm which we enjoy. Table for 2 very nice and sweet waitress who was very attentive. . Always a nice experience at Frog and Turtle. Thank You!
Totally awesome!! The salads are very fresh with just the right amount of dressing tossed in. The meatloaf was pan fried on top of a bed of macaroni and cheese, placed on top a bed of spinach. My wife had the haddock and the potatoes were hand sliced and fried just right. Can't wait to go again and try another dish. Our server, Emily, I believe, was very nice and gave us the up and up,(food is cooked to order and may take a little extra time.) as this was our first time. The "side room" is a little less noisy, but overall, still very pleasant.
This was our first time at Frog & Turtle. We went with an other couple. Several friends have been before and raved about the daily specials offered. Unfortunately we were quite surprised and disappointed when our server told us there were no special that night. The food we ordered was very good though. The atmosphere is very loud, almost too loud to talk to one another without yelling. We went on a Thursday night and live music was playing. With so many dining options in the greater Portland area I would probably not go again.
The presentation of the food, the hostess, and James the owner was outstanding...However for the first time in 12 years The waitress was absolutely horrible...She had a lack of servicing our table and taking care of our of requests..Most disappointed for the first time in 12 years of going here…
There must be wonderful dishes available as every table was filled but we did not hit it right. Primarily fish and chips dish was not enjoyed; fish ok but set on chips making them soggy. Service was great; the perfect amount of attention without being intrusive. The entire staff is a pleasure. A little bright and a little noisy for our taste in ambiance
Service was slow for sunday brunch, we were also asked to leave because other folks were waiting to be seated after only being there for a little over an hour. We made a reservation and waited at the hostess stand for over 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. I've been here a bunch of times and always love it but was pretty disappointed in the service this time around.
Our daughters 34th birthday and she asked to go to the Frog and Turtle. Let alone how good the food is but for her it was all about the homemade donuts! Everyone had a little twist on their orders and the kitchen didn't disappoint. Myself i asked to spice up my dish and it was perfect.
Eating here was one of the weirdest experiences of my life. I was having brunch with 6 friends to celebrate my birthday when one of my friends discovered a large metal screw in her mouth. Her meal had arrived with a large metal screw in it. Thankfully, she only sustained some scratches in her mouth before she realized what it was and removed it from her mouth. This in itself was pretty crazy, but then when we told the owner/chef that my friend should not have to pay for any part of her meal (including her two mimosas), he was outraged and angrily aggressive with us. He insisted that comping her meal (only the food) was enough and argued with us and tried to provoke us, accused us of saying we would refuse to pay for her drinks, which we did not say. We were extremely understanding when the screw was first found, remained polite and we even apologized to our waitress, feeling sorry that she was in this uncomfortable position. I have never been accosted by the owner of a restaurant I was eating at, and certainly never as a result of his own, rather grave mistake. I will not be back. My friend paid for her drinks.
This is my second experience at the frog and turtle. The first time I went my meal was too much of the kitchen sink.
I was careful ordering this time and it was really good...just a salad and fries. My friends all loved their experience the portions are good size and nice quality. Good service. Very limited wine list, but good mixed drinks!
Once again an outstanding meal. Starting with the cheese and charcuterie plate always a great place to wet your appetite. I had the chicken one of my favorite on the menu. Finally a slice of pie ala mode. Thanks for the great service Emily. See you next time.
We were there for the first time, having heard from many friends how good it was. Our service was efficient and friendly, the food was very good, the noise level was a little high with the background (recorded) music, and the wait for the food was significant, but acceptable. A bit high priced for the value, but maybe I'm not as aware of restaurant prices at trendy places as I used to be. Overall, however, a very nice time and a very nice place, especially for a special occasion!
