The Frog and Turtle
It was fabulous as usual. I am happy to have them open again.
It was nice to see the renovations.
Always happy when I have a chance to go to the Frog & Turtle. The food is always sooooo good, the service is dependably great and you can't beat the atmosphere.
My wife and I decided to go out for dinner on a Friday evening, last minute. I booked a table using OpenTable. When we arrived we were told that they had just reopened due to renovations.
The waitstaff was up front about the evening being a little hectic.
Unfortunately, the meal was just okay with the mussels being undercooked (a half dozen) were not open. The fish and chips were okay-good, part of my wife’s meal came out later.
With this said, this is not the norm for this restaurant. We have dined here before and had enjoyable experiences (great food).
The waitress did take the mussels off the bill.
The band that played that night was excellent, a local act known as the Groove Kings. They offset the mediocre dining experience.
Based on past experiences I will give the F&T another shot. This was probably just an off night due to recent changes.
Open table allowed me to reserve a table at a restaurant that was closed for renovation. Ruined a planned family dinner with out of town relatives.
I had friends in town and we made a reservation only to show up and find the place was closed. It ruined our plans for the day considering they had a flight to catch shortly after. I used to love this place, but I’m extremely disappointed at the fact they would allow this situation to have happened. Sloppy!
This was such a horrible experience... so looked forward to taking my husband to this restaurant for our 37th anniversary , only to find the restaurant closed and under construction! No notice from open table, wasted time & $ , so sorry I used this service. We travelled an hour to get there, only to find them closed. Signage on building noting would be open “early August”- we went on the 23rd of Aug.. still not open. Wow so disappointed on all levels.
Restaurant is closed for reservations
I got a reservation, showed up and it was closed under construction. Please coordinate better!
Made the reservation for dinner at six on Saturday, August 17th. Got there only to find the restaurant closed due to major construction!!!
RESERVATION MADE AND ARRIVED AT RESTAURANT ONLY TO FIND IT IS CLOSED FOR RENNOVATIONS. SO FRUSTRATED THAT OPEN TABLE WAS NOT AWARE THEY WERE CLOSED AND ALLOWED ME TO MAKE A RESERVATION ANYWAY.
The restaurant was closed when we got there for renovations, however open table took our reservation. We made dinner plans and everything around this and we were very disappointed when we showed up to a closed restaurant in the middle of renovations. Next time the company should take care to notify open table etc when they will be closed for a period of time. Poor customer service.
There's nothing I don't like about this place. If you want a fancy dinner, go here. If you want a laid back beer with wings, go here.
Always amazing food. The homemade doughnuts are sinful, the Sunday brunches are wonderful. James and his staff are a Westbrook treasure! Looking forward to the grand reopening.
Always an enjoyable experience. We will return when the renovation is complete. 👍🏼
We had a great time! The atmosphere and staff are laid back and friendly. We went for brunch and all of our meals and drinks were excellent! We also got some of their homemade donuts which are amazing. I recommend the John Candy. They also had excellent specials available. My boyfriend got the corned beef hash Benedict and he loved it! It’s a pub style atmosphere, so a little on the loud side. It’s not a bad noise level, just worth mentioning if you are hoping for a quiet sit down meal.
A reliably delicious brunch served with a fantastic attitude, can't wait for the addition of the roof deck!
Long wait but so worth it! Donuts and Eggs Benedict were delicious.
We love the food at the Frog & Turtle, and go there about once a month. This rating is based on our Father's Day Brunch experience. Food was great as always, but it way too long time to get it (over an hour), and it was just really loud in there.
The Frog and Turtle is a wonderful pub-like restaurant in Westbrook. The food is excellent. My burger was perfectly cooked and the onion rings were the best I have ever had. We had quite a large party and everyone enjoyed their meals. The haddock was tender, the burrito was full and tasty, the flatbread was delicious. Our waitress was a little cold but she did her job well. Since one of us was moving we wanted to have a picture taken of us and one of the waiters graciously complied. We would all definitely go there again.
Love eating here when they have a band playing on the weekend!
The best brunch in the Westbrook area! The weekly specials keep us coming back regularly.
My favorite restaurant. Food is always great, always made from scratch.
Courteous service and delectable brunch as always! The specials are on point.
All in all a very good experience. But there were 2 very loud parties sitting near us that made it very noisy. Our meal selections were very tasty and nicely presented. The wait person was very professional and pleasant without being overly friendly.
Always have a great brunch at Frog & Turtle! Food is delicious. Venue is a bit noisy but not so much that you can’t have a conversation with your table mates. Great local spot!
Bad. This was the second time that I’ve tried this place out. The first time I made a reservation on Open Table and there was no seating for me and my friend who I invited when we got there. We had to wait and wait and finally a spot opens up at the bar and we decided to sit there so we didn’t have to wait long. The kid servers were great, the lady behind the bar was awesome and very knowledgeable about the menu. She also recommended us come back and try out there dinner menu. However the service we got from out server was not up-to-par.
We decided to give it another go since it is a close restaurant yesterday. I walked in and stood there in the entrance waiting to be greeted. It took a few minutes and I was finally seated. We sat there for a good 10-15 minutes before anyone asked us what we’d like to drink. Then we were served our doughnut without silverware to eat so we had to ask for forks. My cup was empty so I placed it at the end of the table hoping someone would see and get me another cup. No. I had to ask a server who wasn’t even ours and she had attitude and acted like why are you asking me. I waited and waited and waited and nothing came. I noticed the lady that I had before was behind the bar. I walked to the bar and she gladly helped me and even gave me a can to take back to my table. The server never brought me my refill when I asked her. I would understand if it was slammed and so crazy busy, but it wasn’t crazy busy.
My friend told me that he would not go back and I agreed. We tried for a second time and it was the absolute worst. Since moving to the area, this has been by far the worse dinning experience. Good food. Poor. Poor. Poor service.
The food and service is always great at F & T! Small fried clam daily special and the salad with egg and bacon with grilled salmon were both very good. The salmon was cooked through as I had asked and the clams were fresh and not greasy with delicious house made chips and cole slaw. Very friendly service with a smile.
The food and service were top notch, as always. Shepherds Pie crepes are to die for. So are the desserts.
We arrived at 11:30 for our reservation. We had a party of 4 adults and 1 child. The waitress seemed extremely busy and forgot to bring 1 of the waters out. We ordered 6 donuts right away and did not receive them until nearly an hour after being there. Brunch was not served until after 1 (they closed at 1) and we had to have been one of the last tables left in the restaurant. The pancakes were completely burnt on the outside and raw inside. They also forgot the side of bacon with the pancake order. The child asked for a fruit cup on the side instead of the blueberry sauce top of her french toast. She received the blueberry sauce on top of the french toast and no fruit cup. The three other meals were delicious but we were still very disappointed to wait over an hour and a half for brunch.
The seafood crepe was ... creative but, would not recommend. Cold on the outside and only warm on the inside. Too much going on with this dish. A simpler combination of ingredients would be best. The crepe was soggy and didn’t contribute to the dish.
Desserts were fantastic!!! Cheesecake and house made ice cream was one of the best desserts I’ve had in a very long time. Congratulations to the pastry chef!
Drinks: Never, never, never serve a simple gin or vodka tonic in a beer glass... EVER! Highball glass only so the flavor of the alcohol isn’t lost.
Wait staff was awesome, helpful and welcoming.
We used to go here all the time, and went for a special occasion with friends. I was surprised how slow the service was, especially since the restaurant was only about half full. We had to wait quite a long time even to get a beverage. I found the prices are quite inflated for what you get. The atmosphere is still great and the crowd friendly, the waitress was personable and competent, but the service in general was very slow.
A very expensive night that was a little disappointing.
Go for the donuts. Stay for the coffee. Come back for the Benedicts. Best place for Brunch that is well worth the cost.
Food is amazing, always so tasty and portions are decent! My only suggestion, NOT complaint, is that they pay more attention to keep water and coffee glasses full. Otherwise, service and food is great!!
We are never disappointed at the F&T. Food is always well prepared with a bit of the unexpected!
Cocktails are a delight. Service friendly and energetic.
Only problem was I reserved a table in advance and ended up waiting a half hour to be seated.
Chef James really creates extraordinary delicious pub food with a twist. Make sure you try the chowder. It’s worth the short drive from downtown Portland and there’s parking. I will definitely be back.
They gave my reservation away. We had to stand in a very noise space until another table came up. Then the table was very noisy, the whole place was noisy. The consolation prize was a cheese plate, without asking. None of us were big cheese eaters. We were there to share an evening with people who are going through a difficult time. The experience was awful and the reaction from the restaurant was less than satisfactory. So don’t feel confident when you book a table a good week in advance. And don’t go if you wear hearing aids or have ANY sensitivity to noise.
Excellent meal and service. My daughters and I had a wonderful Easter brunch.
My husband and I came for Easter brunch 9:00am. Firstly, the music was annoying 9am really we had to raise our voices just to have conversation, that in itself would keep me from returning! I ordered the eggs Benedict which was tasteless, the home fries were however, amazing. My husbands omelet was average. The wait staff was amazing kept the coffee coming and was very pleasant. This is the third time I have been to the Frog and Turtle interestingly enough, for a brunch, lunch and dinner all three times I left disappointed. The waitstaff all three times were amazing the atmosphere loud the food below average. Sorry to say I probably will not return.
