Went with another couple. Enjoyed escargot and onion soup, flank steak, grouper and salmon. Great bread. Creme brûlée was rich and good. Very good neighborhood spot

Everything from pate, salads, appetizers, fish and steak was excellent....fresh and well prepared with great sauces. And the desserts were a special treat.

The French Gourmet is very much a place for locals. Very cute and quaint, but the vibe from the other diners was not overly welcoming to a large-ish group of outsiders. Nevertheless, the service provided was good. The food delivery a bit slow (but I think the size of our group may have overtaxed the kitchen a tad). The au gratin potatoes were tasty but heavily salted. The bouillabaisse was very lightly salted/seasoned with a healthy selection of fish. I enjoyed the pear and arugula salad. The escargot were amazing! The raspberry tart and napoleon pastry were delicious. All in all, I think this restaurant is would be an excellent choice for a quiet dinner for two.

Their menu and food improved greatly from 6 months ago. As usual, their service is sloooooooow. If you have time to relax, you'll enjoy the food and cozy ambiance.

Stopped here on short notice, they offer a prix fixe dinner which is a very good value. The food was good not great and the venue is okay but could use a bit of sprucing up. The wait staff are friendly and reasonably professional but did disappear for long periods of time even though it was a Wednesday night and not crowded.
All in all it was middle of the road, and I am not sure that we would return again.

Beyond catering our wedding in 2013....know they hosted our daughters Sweet 16 and treated her and her friends with grace! The French Gourmet are like family at this point and I can’t give a higher recommendation! Great food always!

Been coming here for years. The bread there is amazing, and they're smart and served softened (room temperature) butter with it. Consistently good food, and super nice friendly staff. Check out their deli/bakery. I got some good treats for mom and dad, and a Mushroom Quiche to eat later which was delicious.

Meh. My husbands duck confit was super salty and we had to wait an extra half hour for it. I had the chicken and it was pretty good. I don’t think we’ll bother going back.

We came for our anniversary, the ambiance was great and the food was delicious. They have a restaurant week-esque deal where you can choose an appetizer, main course and desert for $30 which is an awesome value for the delicious food. The service was funny and friendly and we enjoyed a nice quiet table to celebrate

This was not first visit to French Gourmet. I always love it and the service is incredible. I always get points using my Upromise charge card and making reservations. I did both. Please check your records. Just went there about a month ago. Virginia

Wonderful place to have a dinner with a couple of people. Not big but that's part of the intimate, French appeal. The food was amazing! Had the onion soup, filet mignon, and creme brûlée. Everything tasted so fresh, even the bread was amazing! Service was great and everyone was very nice! Go, you won't regret it

We really enjoyed our experience! We had a few issues with the meat having to be sent back.. but it seemed like a strange cut and nothing wrong with the way it was cut. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with our meals and comped a part of it to make sure we were satisfied. Overall we had a really great time and I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Unfortunately, the food just was not very good. I really expected (much) more from such a highly rated restaurant. Additionally, as I looked around the dining area, I couldn't help but notice that every single entree came with the same exact two sides: roasted potatoes and a carrot broccoli medley. Whether you ordered a seafood crepe or lamb (as my wife and I did, respectively) or the filet mignon, it was like looking at cookie-cutter carbon copy food at every table. The dishes just all lacked any originality and were bland, especially my wife's crepe. Perhaps it was because my wife and I went during restaurant week, but the whole experience really felt like they just phoned this one in. The one thing I must compliment them for, however, was that the waiter removed our wines from the bill upon learning that my wife was not happy with her dish. That was a kind gesture since it ended up saving us more than the cost of her entree.

We savored the filet of beef with Berniase sauce. Bread was fresh and crisp, oignon soup was hot , tasty and enclosed in a rather thin cover o f Swiss cheese. Regrettably there is still no white zin available but my friend thoroughly enjoyed her white French wine and I, my coffee. We have enjoyed this restaurant for years and look forward to our continued visits.

Not many French restaurants in San Diego, but this one is true to traditional french cuisine, I had the braised short-ribs and were excellent. The charcuterie appetizer plate was also of the highest quality, specially the pate.
First place visiting the lace for dinner, it won't be the last.

Took the family to the French Gourmet Restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary and was totally surprised by how good the food and service was. This was our first time and did not know what to expect. The service was excellent, the food was delicious and very nicely presented and the wine list was robust with several selections to choose from.

We were all very pleased and to top it off my wife was presented with a heart shaped cake with two candles for desert.

I love this place. I love France and this place makes me feel like I'm there! Service was great. Meal was wonderful. I had the bouillabaisse which was delicious....one of the best I've had. My husband had the steak with béarnaise sauce and loved it, too.
Dessert is terrific! You can go to their bakery and pick out scrumptious choices.
Prices are reasonable. Prix fixe is worthwhile meal.

This is a true neighborhood gem. A tiny French bistro that makes everything from scratch, I had the best escargot in 20 years and my salmon with Bernaise sauce was perfect. Save room for dessert - they make them fresh every day and they are amazing! Wine list is good with some nice French wines. It's a lovely find in Pacific Beach.

Absolutely fabulous food! Have had lunch here several times but this was the first dinner and the food was spectacular. I must be gluten free and usually the options are very limited. Not here! It was a great experience and we will be back frequently.

Our wait person Laura, was courteous, prompt and knowledgeable. She made the dining experience extremely pleasant. The food was, as usual, wonderful. I had the escargot and my wife had the French onion soup. We both opted for chicken and mushroom marsala. The marsala sauce was flavorful and not overpowering. The dessert was terrific as well. Half price wine night got us there on a Tuesday evening. Hope they keep it going as a promotion.

We were a couple of "mature" tourists in San Diego looking for a French menu. We very much enjoyed our typical French dishes out of a good selection on the menu. The price was right with a choice of a 3-course menu or "a la carte" at reasonable price.

This was our 2nd visit in a week and we come back because the food was beautifully presented, absolutely delicious and an absolute bargain. I had the orange infused salmon, which was served with the most delicious garlic roasted potatoes I ever tasted. Our server, whoe name I have unfortunately forgotten, was marvelous. We only get to San Diego once a year but we will definitely make this a favorite top n tell our family in pacific beach as well.
