Nice dinner, good food. Service a bit slow. Small restaurant with bakery attached. Nice for a neighborhood restaurant experience!!
This was an exceptional experience. This quiet, personal place was perfect for a date, family gathering, or anything for that matter. Our food was amazing, including dessert. We will be back!!
grand daughter birthday. good food and
efficient service. all six of us very pleased
with quality of the food!
We've been coming here since we began visiting San Diego over a decade ago, and it never disappoints. The food is outstanding and the servers are informed, personable and attentive but never intrusive. The prix fixe menu is a real bargain but last night, I opted for the bouillabaisse -- what a treat! I also tried the frisee aux lardons salad, which I loved. Really, there's nothing I don't love about The French Gourmet!
Ordered the eggs benedict and enjoyed the meal very much. The roasted potatoes were excellent. We couldn't resist the pastries, so took some home.
Been there many times. Good food. Wines by the glass very good. Fixed price menu a bargain.
French Gourmet is consistently very good with tasty French Bistro dishes in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Tonight, we shared the pate sampler and enjoyed the calves liver and wonderful Corvino, a delicious, nicely-prepared fish. Very nice experience at a reasonable price.
Always a wonderful experience
Always excellent! A wonderful menu with some amazing specials and great desserts
It was a nice meal and a great breakfast. There was Wifi that showed available, but the staff would not give us the password
My wife ordered the duck, which arrived over cooked and dry.
Salad was bland and tasteless
Disappointing dinner.
Shouldn't have came here for our anniversary, service was much better during restaurant week surprisingly. Put anniversary in the opentable notes and nodda. Showed up early and had to wait even though there was a table that was free.
We loved our trip here during RW but this trip was disappointing. The rabbit was so-so, if you want good rabbit you can get it at Pomegranate. The salmon I got was a bit overcooked. At least the appetizer (escargot) and dessert (creme brulee) were on point, entrees weren't as good.
Not sure we're coming back.
Very good. Food and ambience.
It's a Beautiful Day at the French Gourmet -- ALWAYS!!
I frequent the French Gourmet at any opportunity. I have been there for a great Sunday brunch and fine evening dinner. For brunch they have so many options but I love the strawberry crepes with Nutella and banana best with a fresh warm croissant and coffee to start. For dinner they have a three course meal with several options to choose from. I usually choose the pear salad and salmon. Then don’t even get me started on how delicious their desserts are. Even though I’m stuffed from dinner, I always take one home for later because they are just too good to pass up!
Had a reservation had to wait because they ran out of menus. After being seated waited 30 minutes with no service. No water offered, no bread, no waitress, no nothing! We left and had an excellent pizza down the street. Will never go back. Very understaffed. Very poor experience.
We eat at the FG a lot and we always love the food and wine and usually the service. Our most recent night there was very busy and the service people were a bit overwhelmed and we waited nearly 90 minutes to be served the main course although apps, salads and beverages showed up promptly. There were only 2 waiters and the place was brimming with full tables throughout. One of our waiters was friendly and funny...the other was showing signs of stress and was a bit ungracious at times but redeemed herself eventually. But as usual the food was great! The BEST bruschetta I have ever had! Salad with bacon and egg was everything my mouth wanted and more. Sauvignon Blanc from France was heavenly. The dessert we ordered was ok...but the Petit-fore and the macaroons they served with it were to die for. A little noisy but that was ok. Cosy local ambience warm and friendly, tiny intimate. Sorry they did not have the Caramelized Onion and blue cheese tartin on the menu any longer but the entrees are always spectacular. I just had a salad the Bruschetta and Le Escargot and was in heaven.
Love the French Gourmet. Great food, wonderful service. Couldn’t be better!
Spent a special occasion here with my husband and had a GREAT experience from wine, waiter, food, and ambiance. We were able to use our San Diego Restaurant gift cards here, too, and will definitely return!
Neighbourhood French bistro that OpenTable sent us to while visiting San Diego. Bakery sales in front, restaurant further through and French accents to be heard among the staff. If the French Gourmet were in my neighbourhood, I'd be a regular.
Overall I enjoyed everything about this experience, except that the AC didn't appear to be functioning so it got rather warm. The food, the customer service, the ambiance overall was spectacular. I cannot wait to go back again for more of the amazing food and great service. Charles is an amazing waiter, with patience and humor. I genuinely enjoy this locale.
Also, the food and desserts are enough to get me in, even if the service wasn't awesome, the food is OUTSTANDING!!
For the first time, the service was terrible really, under par.
dirty dishes left on table until we request to have them picked up, water had to be asked for twice, an ordered coffee never came.
If you are not served by Charles, you will be under served.
Boyfriends steak was awesome, however, my fish was a bit over cooked.
I love this place. Great french food, great service, reasonable prices (especially the prix fixe menu), nice atmosphere. Appetizers are all great and I love the french onion soup.
Very, very good
The food and setting are always lovely. A well-priced tasty meal with nice staff
Delicious meal- both fish and beef perfectly prepared to desired doneness. Would go again!
Charles and Laura and Nathan were great- had a wonderful time!
The host and waiters were pleasant and amiable. I love the paintings and the bakery near the restaurant. The space is intimate, so the noise level can be slightly too loud when it's busy, but overall the food and dessert were delicious. Great place, and I would love to visit again!
Excellent food and service as always. Our favorite breakfast location!
The food was a let down. Appetizers and dessert were good, but the sides for the main course were bland and boring. We also had issues with the temperatures of the meat we ordered. Overall, I did not thing it was worth the price, and probably won't be back.
A+++, would go again. Service was as awesome, so was the food.
Many places don’t put their best on for restaurant week; however I didn’t find this to be true at French Gourmet. Great service, very accommodating to dietary restrictions, only complaint is it’s a very small restaurant so a little bit of a tight fit.
As always the food and service were excellent. Our waiter was attentive and made useful suggestions. We will return soon and recommend the French Gourmet to our friends.
Food was excellent as it always is. Great vaalue durinbg Restaurant Week but good for similar menu all of the time.
My son and I enjoyed our dinner. The food was excellent. The table arrangement was just a little too cozy. We just got lucky that the table next to us who I felt like we are sharing our meal with were such fine people celebrating their parents 60th wedding anniversary.
I've always had wonderful meals here -- love their escargots, their cabernet-braised short ribs, their bouillabaisse, their desserts -- really, I've never had a bad dish here. Service is attentive, but discreet. And their prix fixe menu and restaurant week menus make their meals quite modestly priced. We always choose a table by the wall, so even when the restaurant is full, noise isn't a problem. No matter where else we've eaten in San Diego, The French Gourmet remains our favorite for an evening out.
Everything was perfect. The food and service were outstanding.
Great restaurant week menu! Very good! Just a little loud due to being busy so was hard to talk to each other.
Small restaurant and bakery, well worth going out of the way for. Wonderful food with a real French flair. Surprisingly affordable.
