This is truly a hidden gem. I’ve lived in San Diego for 12 years and only ended up here because my mom, who was visiting, found it through researching online.
Fantastic value. The food is AMAZING and the wine prices and selection are outstanding. So not miss out on this experience!
Good place for business lunch
Very enjoyable French restaurant with a nice menu, ambiance and service. Have been several times!!
Wine list made up of wines chosen from a convenience store should have been the tip-off, but I was hungry so stayed. Onion soup tasted canned with huge slab of Monterrey Jack cheese in it. Salad full of sprouts. The entree tasted like a frozen dinner that had been microwaved. Seriously this may have been my worst French restaurant dining experience ever.
Our entire experience was awesome. The food was superb.
Always good, love the french bread and the quiche.
Excellent Traditional French food. Good quality ingredients and delicious preparation. Very attentive service. Quiet atmosphere. One of the better if less recognized restaurants in San Diego. Highly recommend.
This was our go-to place for the last 7 years, it was always a reliably good dinner for a reasonable price. Until recently, when we noticed the portions had shrunk to literally HALF their prior size while the prices remained the same. The waiters confirmed that yep, they’ve gone to smaller portions. So unfortunately the French gourmet is no longer a good value or a good option, in my opinion. How unfortunate.
Great dining experience despite staff being short a server. Crew just upped the pace and took care of everyone. Place only had one empty table.
Never knew this place existed until we dined here on Saturday. I couldn't decide between the beef wellington special, the duck, or the lamb...now I have to go back multiple times to try it all. Sooo satisfied with everything, the food, the servers/service, the atmosphere, AND the price point!!! They ran out of the double chocolate croissant so I have to make it a point to try it next time :)
My favorite go to restaurant for any special occasion in La Jolla
Impeccable salmon in bernaise sauce, with lovely side veggies and a nice pilaf. The dining room is in the back of a bakery/European grocery storefront, so a bit funky, but comfy enough for the wonderful food.
It has been years since we last dined at French Gourmet, but we are very happy we went back. The food is fantastic, and it is not overpriced. The zucchini fritter appetizer melted in the mouth. The salmon dijonnaise was perfectly prepared and delicious. The eggplant Napoleon entree was also great. We'll be back there soon.
We love this restaurant. We were celebrating our 31st Anniversary and it did not disappoint. They did not have our reservation from my Open Table entry. Not sure why, but I needed to insist on the table we wanted. Still a wonderful dinner and good service once the "reservation" problem was sorted.
Had the Filet with Bernaise sauce and the Roasted chicken. Very nice bottle of French Pinot Noir and a lovely slice of chocolate cake!
Always a great experience! Escargot is perfectly cooked, duck confit was a little dry, but the Dijon salmon was unparalleled - especially if you ask for it to be slightly undercooked. Dessert options in the prix fix menu are outstanding. One of the best spots in PB!
Food outstanding, service helpful, atmosphere soothing. Highly recommend and has reasonably price three course.
Allowed an open table reservation when no dining service was available. Wasted our time
This is an excellent spot. It's size and moderate noise level (unlike so many other current places) made for a very enjoyable evening. Excellent entrees, but be sure to leave room for desert - their bakery provides some great selections.
Never disappointed when we have dinner here. The food and service seems always good amazing.
It was also restaurant week.
Loved the food, setting and service. Couldn't have been nicer. We will be returning next weekend for my birthday!
Great French food. The seafood crepes were very good.
Ambiance was great! Only two little things that weren't perfect were 1) dessert tasted a bit dry and stale and 2) two of four dishes we ordered were too salty for our tastes. Otherwise, our server was attentive and the food was delicious.
As always an excellent meal
Four of us had dishes from the "Restaurant Week" menu. Everything was delicious. We had 2 different salads and each had a wonderful combination of vegetables and distinct dressings.
The main courses were also tasty as were the desserts. French Gourmet has been around for a long time because their food is fresh and well prepared. Always excellent.
Been going to FG for 20 years. Always amazing food. One of our restuarant week dinners so it was very busy. Intimate dinner for two ended up being a shared table for 6. Made new friends so that was okay. Our server was great. He was so busy but never missed a beat. I had beet salad, duck and creme brulee. The salad was fresh and full of flavor. The duck was a little over cooked but the sauce was addictive. I wanted to lick my plate but having other guests at the table, opted not. The creme brulee is always perfect combination of crispness and fluffiness. My guest was a vegan and had an asparagus salad, vegan wellington, and chocolate avocado mousse. Server recommended adding some zest to the wellington so they loaded it with garlic and onions. She was extremely happy. Neither of us believed that her dessert was vegan but it was so good, we decided forgiveness was the better approach so not to waste a single bite.
Absolutely delicious Prix Fixe for Restaurant Week: chicken, duck confit, scallops! Service was first rate. A little noisy due to a full house.... and everyone was loving their food and in a festive mood. For wonderful lunch and dinner... and excellent and friendly/cordial service always....this is the place for you!
Amazingly good. Scallops done perfectly and cut like butter. All 4 of us were thoroughly delighted.
Went during Restaurant Week for lunch. It was busy so the service was a bit slower. Food is always good though.
Great little spot with delicious food and friendly service
This relatively small French restaurant is located in the Pacific Beach neighborhood. It is casually elegant and absolutely unpretentious. The menu is not large, but all the dishes we ordered were excellent or outstanding. Both of us had prix fixe menus -- a tremendous value at $29.99 for this cuisine. Appetizers we tried were French onion soup (classic) and escargots (wonderful in a butter and garlic sauce). Entrees were chicken (best ever, absolutely delicious) and ratatouille (also wonderful). Desserts were chocolate cakes, excellent as expected since they also have their own bakery at the restaurant and sell baked goods in the adjacent space.
Wonderful fish special!!!! Very fresh and interesting!!!!
Very cozy, bistro style. Great tasting.
Wonderful in every way
Our waiter was so knowledgeable and made the whole experience very special. It was my aunt’s birthday and he was very attentive and did not rush us in enjoying our evening. Thank you so much, we will definitely be back to celebrate more birthdays!
We wnt there Friday for an early dinner. The room was quiet, our server very pleasant, and the food outstanding. Thank You.
Intimate, pleasant French themed restaurant. Quiet, and, an added plus, a French Bakery.
Hands down my favorite breakfast stop for the best in French food. Nothing compares. Spent the weekend in SD. I eat here every chance I get.
Always a pleasure, never fails to please. With a most wonderful selection of freshly made on site pastry.
