With a bubbling white pool and four seasonally-changing trees at each corner, the Pool Room is breathtakingly beautiful. Airy and romantic, it was designed by Philip Johnson and is one of the finest examples of architecture's International Style.
The Pool Room features The Four Seasons' signature shimmering chain curtains and a collection of furnishings and tablewear that are part of the Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection.
Directly across the street from the Four Seasons is the Park-Lex Garage (52nd Street, between Park and Lexington Avenues). After 5 pm, they offer our guests reduced rate parking with a Four Seasons validation.

The restaurant is closing two weeks hence, and it showed - badly. Food varied between outstandingly exceptional to mediocre to downright bad. Selections from a heavily depleted wine list were very limited, esp in the affordable range. Service was slow, haphazard, and actually neglectful, all of which are totally unacceptable in a restaurant of this supposed caliber.
Wanted to experience the 4 Seasons before it closed. Unfortunately, the food quality had departed long before the restaurant had closed for the final time. Great ambiance, just extremely disappointed in what was supposed to be a grand send out. No way unfortunately, to go back and make it right...
The restaurant is closing, but it was clear that the restaurant in theory closed months ago. The bathrooms were dirty, the restaurant was stripped of the art, and the food was mediocre. Dining staff was less attentive and seamed not to care. Not one team member asked how the food was, because, respectfully, I think they already knew.
It pains me that this iconic restaurant, still so wonderful and replete with history that even we non New Yorkers can appreciate, is losing its lease. I'm very fortunate to have dined on a couple of occasions at the Four Seasons and I look forward to the restaurant's reopening in a new location in 18 months. I trust that the great quality and unpretentious atmosphere will carry over. I hope some of the history of this establishment also can be sensed at the new location.
Unfortunately, my request, made well in advance, for a particular table was not honored. Overall, the Four Seasons does impress. The NY steak that we enjoyed was excellent, probably one of the very best that I ever had. I dined at the Four Season previously in May, at that time we were comped on two glasses of wine and two desserts, our base bill without gratuity was $283.00. My experience in June was somewhat different, base bill this visit was $385.00. We were only comped on one item, the somewhat oddball item that the Four Seasons serves to those celebrating birthdays, a large pink cotton candy. It was not a birthday and we certainly did not request the sticky treat. The person who served it to us, stated that they had many birthdays and this was an "extra". I never quite got why such a iconic restaurant such as The Four Seasons would even consider cotton candy as appropriate. Though closing, I am for the most part, very happy that I had the opportunity to dine there. I wish the staff well at their new location.
A dream came true for us the other night at the iconic Four Seasons Restaurant in NYC. In light of the sad reality that this most-famous restaurant will be closing in July 2016 at its present location in the Seagram Building on Park Avenue, we felt compelled to experience this famous space one last time. Well worth it. This NYC treasure will be sorely missed, indeed....
Divine! We came to say Goodbye to this beautiful restaurant. In the 1970's we dined so well at the Four Seasons, always memorable. Lunch today was amazing...the tiny croissants, wonderful entrees, outstanding souffles and service the best! Our waiter was so fun yet professional. He needs to be cloned. The Four Seasons closes next month but the memories will remain.
Although this is a very expensive restaurant, we knew that going in and went there because it was a special occasion. The restaurant is beautiful and is closing soon to open under new management in a new location. We wanted to go before it closed, and are happy that we did so. The food was delicious and the wait staff was very attentive. Everything we would expect from a famous landmark dining spot.
We went to the four seasons for dinner, for my wife's birthday. We had a really really great time. We both agreed that it was the best and nicest experience we've had in any similar priced restaurants. The service was above and beyond any other restaurant, the food was delicious, the wine list, while not very big, got me a really nice glass of a red dry wine, the dessert was stunning and yummy, and they gave us 2 glasses of rose Champaign with the dessert on the house, that was a nice gesture.
We really couldn't find any small thing to complain about. Nothing!
Not to bad talk anyone else, but a block away is fresco by scotto, we went there a couple of months ago. It's around the same prices, but in my opinion (and my wife also agrees with me on this) the four seasons is head and shoulders above them. Everything, from the service (which almost felt amateurish at fresco) to the food, to the ambience, at the four seasons I got what I paid for, I can't say the same for fresco by Scotto.
I was really really sad to find out after our meal here, that this place is closing. In a way I feel lucky that I caught it ones at least before they're closing. But what a shame. The four seasons is iconic, what a shame to see them close (although they are hoping to re open in a year or so, at another location. But then it won't be the same)
3d trip in 30 years (NOT a good customer, I'm afraid), but then again, I'm no longer a NY resident. There are few words to describe the experience. They way fine dining should be everywhere. Due to some misfortune, the cretan who now owns the Seagrams building wouldn't renew the lease to this revered institution and they'll be moving down the street. I can't wait to see the new digs. I hope they bring 2 things with them. The pool AND the crispy duck. When it reopens, give it a whirl. I know I will.
We made a reservation to be in the legendary Pool Room, an experience that would be worth the salty price. Three times the Four Seasons confirmed we would be in the Pool Room.
It did not happen.
Unfortunately, we were not IN the Pool Room but instead on a raised area overlooking the Pool Room. Let the reader judge if we justly felt conned.
Mssrs. Niccolini and von Bidder and their team are the heavyweight champs. I have always been treated royally at this legendary spot. (They don't seem to know I hold no high office or own the Yankees or write bestsellers.)
The Pool Room is as beautiful a room as you'll ever see. Get there, if you can find an open spot before it closes (to be replaced by a discothequé or something.)
The boys will land on their feet, I'm sure, although no space will replace Mies van der Rhoe and Philip Johnson's epic creation.
Alex and Julian can count on my patronage nonetheless, wherever the team reassembles.
It was my husband's wish to celebrate his birthday at The Four Seasons before it leaves the Seagrams Building next month and our experience was perfect. We found the food, atmosphere and service intact as it surely will be through the very last day -- and eventually in its new quarters at 280 Park Avenue. We both tried to memorize the beauty of the iconic space and the wonderful experience until we can re-experience that. In the meantime, I encourage everyone who is thinking about going to take advantage for the final few weeks.
I have eaten at The Four Seasons several times over the years. Most recently, a year ago for a special birthday. We had a lovely experience. This time was different. I made a reservation a month before, asking to be seated in The Pool Room. Instead, we were seated in the room above and adjacent to The Pool Room, which they usually use for private parties. When I asked to be moved, I was told there were no other tables available. During our meal, I saw at least three empty tables at all times. When the waiter asked for our drink order, we told him we don't drink. He dismissively whisked away the drink menu. When I asked for their Caesar salad, he failed to mention the one they prepare at the table, which we had a year ago. Instead, he referred me to the Caesar salad on the menu, making a point to mention that they are "individual portions" -- i.e., not to be shared. The salad from the menu was a pile of soggy kale with some anchovies tossed in. Our steak was tough and chewy, with a sour tasting sauce. We were not given steak knives so we had to do a lot of sawing. The chocolate and peanut cake for dessert was dry, as if it had been sitting around all day. The cost of the meal (without wine): over $400.00. When we paid the bill, the first thing the waiter did was to check to see how much tip we left. I left 20%, which was proper. We went to The Four Seasons because it's closing next month and we wanted to see that beautiful room one last time. Which we did, even though we weren't seated in it. But I'm no longer sad about it closing. It deserves to close. Per Open Table's option, I would send this note to the restaurant as well. But given their snobbish and condescending attitude, I seriously doubt they would care.
Last visit to iconic Four Seasons restaurant. Wait staff was as gracious as ever. Food (especially the duck) very well prepared. Room is beautiful, quiet, and leisurely unobtrusive service. Great restaurant for long conversations. Will close mid-July, so get in while you can!
Food was delicious, especially the steak tartare and the chatham cod. I loved the cotton candy at the end, since it's such an iconic item. However, the service received during lunch was incredibly disappointing, given the status of the restaurant. In 1.5 hours, my iced tea and water was not refilled even once. We waited quite a long time in between each course, and had to flag a waiter down to eventually get the check. Perhaps the servers have Senioritis because of the upcoming move to the new location. Still, it was pretty disappointing after having wanted to go to this iconic institution for so long.
Our last dinner was Saturday evening. Our meal was so delicious even more so than usual. Did I say that?? It's always perfection... But this dinner was sprinkled with tears of an era that will have passed when we leave.
Although we will dine once again on Park.... We will always have the pool room.... And our generous parting gift......so till then...... Please wait for me..... Because I'll be there.....xoxo
