Farewell to a Manhattan landmark! I had a splendid dinner at the Four Seasons on the Thursday evening before they closed. It was not the first, but it was the last.

For being the quintessential NYC dining experience, the service was fairly poor. We had a 9:15PM reservation and were immediately seated. Was a mostly empty dining room, not busy at all, but still took every bit of 10 minutes before the waiter/waitress could stop talking to each other and other tables and ignoring us to bring us some drinks. They walked past us no less than 4 times without even greetings us none the less saying they'd get with us in a second. For such a "high end" place the service sucked. Food was good, it better be for the prices, but food is only half of the reason for going to such a nice place. We almost got up and left after being walked past without so much as a hello in the first 5 minutes. Terribly unacceptable to be seated but not be greeted when the place was mostly empty.

If you HAVE NOT been to the Grill Room, I would recommend that you consider having lunch at The Four Seasons before the restaurant relocates and closes this summer. Choose the Grill Room rather than the Pool Room or the Bar for the quintessential old school New York experience - elegant, grand, and elegant ( did I mention elegant?). With regards to the service, visit with Nick as your waiter if possible, although I am confident that all the staff are wonderful. With regards to the menu, the crudites at the table was a refreshing start to the meal. We enjoyed the Miso Cod and the FS Burger for main courses.
If you HAVE been to the Grill Room, I would recommend one more visit as well...
We had a late night dinner so restaurant was quiet. Service and food were fantastic, as is expected at this venue. We've dined here before and are grateful to get in one last time before they move. I hope they continue the cotton candy dessert!
We wanted to dine here before it closed, at least at this location. The food was ok. The service was spotty (one waiter took away my bread dish, with my bread on it; another waiter wondered why I didn't have any bread and brought me some). The wine list was very limited, especially in wine less than $500 per bottle. I guess since they are closing, they didn't restock the wine and all of the more reasonable wine were sold. It was a bucket list thing to do and we did it. overall, somewhat disappointed
My husband and I ordered the price fixed dinner, ordering appetizer, entree and dessert. Never once during or after the meal did the waiter inquire how our meal was. We had a 5:15 PM reservation and were the first diners in the Grill Room so they were not busy. I asked the water girl if she would take a picture of us with my phone, as it was our anniversary. She said she would when she put the water pitcher down. She never came back and when I asked her the second time, her response was oh, I forgot". My husband ordered the duck and I ordered the cod - both were overcooked and dry. Very disappointing meal and service. Not worth the price.
Wanted to dine here one last time before closing. Still the most beautiful restaurant in town, great food, great service, but ridiculously expensive. At one time it seemed worth it, but the cost is way out of line. Good riddance!! Hope the replacement in this space by Carbone and Torrisi is more reasonable.

Everything was perfect. Servers are so kind and they celebrate my anniversary with cotton candies. Without doubt, It's historic place for architects and designers. Memorable moment for everyone.
I have been dining at the Four Seasons since I worked upstairs in the public relations department of Seagram Wines & Spirits in the late 1970s. (We had lunch there so often that we called it "the Seagram cafeteria.") The Four Seasons is synonymous with the elegance, luxury and fine dining that have become so rare in this city. People dress for dinner. Good manners are expected. Formal service is honored. This icon of Old New York will be missed when the furnishings are gone and the new inhabitants take over. It was with great sadness that I dined twice in the past month, once in the Pool Room and once in the Grill, to fully embrace one final memory of the exquisite space, the extraordinary cuisine, the impeccable service, the remembrance of Old New York as it once was and has remained in this one space on Park Avenue. Like so many others, I am grateful that the interior will be saved thanks to its landmark status. I will dine at the Four Seasons' new location, but the space in the Seagram building will never be the same. Thank you for the rarefied experience and the memories. I look forward to seeing the familiar faces of staff and owners in the new location.
Went to the 4 Seasons for our anniversary celebration. Our visit was twofold, 1 for the anniversary and 2, for the impending location change. Our original poolroom reservation was changed to the grill room because of a private party. Only problem, there was also a private party in the grill room but enough seating to accommodate daily guests.
Service was very good. Semi-attentive due to the large party needs. Staff was generally upbeat and offered us a pleasant array of chef specialties "on the house".
Wine selection by the glass was limited, but my Pinot Noir choice was delicious. Dinner was very good as were the vegetable side dishes. Dessert and coffee finished off the the evening sampling the house special souffles.
Overall I would reccommend a visit to the restaurant. It's an iconic NY location worthy of a night out before they move on. Either room will suffice but the poolroom appears the reservation of choice.
I saw the ad in the NYT about the imminent closing and the $48 Price Fixe bar lunch menu and decided to take a client. When they handed me the menu there was no mention of the Price Fixe, and I was uncomfortable asking for it in front of my guest. The apps were all in the $30 range, and the entrees in the $50 range -- so lunch for two, with 2 apps, 2 entrees, 1 soda, 1 coffee was $240 inc. tax& tip.
Regarding service, I arrived early and was seated. When my guest arrived they did not tell him I was there and he waited 10 minutes by the bar before he finally saw me. (He had given my name to the host.)
Two people in a row came to ask us if we'd like a drink, and then we had to ask for water during the meal.
I was excited to have lunch at such a storied restaurant, and the room is beautiful, but based on my experience it is time for it to go.
Have enjoyed many, many Fete de Bordeaux dinners over the past 20 years.
Thought we might stop by for an avoir dinner before Julian and Alex disappear
off the radar screen in August. Not to be had. The Pool Room was closed for a
"private function" so we were allocated to the Grill Room. I ordered the CRISP
Shrimp appetizer for a start - they (2) were soggy and gooey. I brought it to the
head waiter's attention - his response - "I'll bring it to the chef's attention"! No
more no less - no second try, no compensation. My wife's Hanger Steak was on a
par with the Brooklyn Diner, thank you very much. Had a discussion with Julian
before dinner regarding his "fopa" on the 4 Seasons web page which he was unaware
of - Four Seasons Auction of tables, chairs, service ware, etc. by Wright was scheduled
for Wednesday, June 26th !!! Julian's "Going Out With A Bang" party was scheduled
for Thursday July 7th !! Julian confirmed the screwup - but again no more no less -
NO THANKS from him. He just went scurrying off. THE BEST PART OF OUR ADVENTURE

We're so happy to have finally dined here on our return to NYC. The experience was everything I had always heard. Food and service were exemplary. Décor is amazing -- so sad to hear of the imminent relocation. We'll visit at the new site when next in NYC in a few years.
originally had reservations for a table in the Grill Room, then opted to dine at the bar instead as it was such an inviting space... all the employees were beyond wonderful and the food was fantastic; the hardest part was choosing a wine to go with it all... holy cow, what a list! we topped off our leisurely lunch with Irish coffees (after all , it was the day after St. Paddy's Day) and state, without hesitation or exaggeration, it was the best I've ever had; seriously, fresh whipped cream like I've never experienced... more like whipped butter... out of this world... such a shame this beautiful landmark will be closing soon... hope to see it at least one more time before then.
I reserved for the Grill room having eaten in the pool room a number of times , but was immediately taken to Pool room on arrival . I did not make a fuss so I missed the Grill room experience.
Worst Service no matter what the price being paid. $300 for 2 pre tip two wines by the glass. Two hours for lunch. Served the wrong meals, couldn't find check, waiter left premises. Needed to see the space one last time before it closed, should have relied on my older memories.

very good, but reception couldn't find the reservation i'd made with opentable, and were a bit stuffy that i'd made it on the same day. they then placed us in the fountain room without discussing. once there impeccable service as ever, and my guests thoroughly enjoyed it.
Delicious meal in a great environment for business (men, bring your jackets). But wildly overpriced for what you get.
To dine in the Four Seasons Grill Room is to experience the ultimate in style, timelessness and class. There will never be another. The food was quite good, the service impeccable and the surroundings gorgeous. It is a time capsule of grace and elegance that is not to be missed. It will be a memory soon so indulge while you can.
we choose the four seasons for our christmas eve dinner hoping to get "the experience" and a great ambiance, but this was not the case. Upon our arrival we inquired about seating in the main dinning room and the answer we got was "things are a mess tonight" this set the tone for an even more disappointing
ambiance. We were seated near a place where the staff constantly passed by our table, It felt like we were near a kitchen area; my seat was even bumped. Our table was about the only table without the flower decor. No one took time to review the menu with us, but simply asked are you ready to order. no one payed attention to the crumbs at our table from the croissant. This was annoying as you would expect great service from such an establishment. our Entree took a while to come out. My duck was tender but bland in flavor. this truly wasn't an experience you couldn't get elsewhere. I've had better for less.
I haven't been to the Four Seasons for a few years but had a chance this past weekend and was reminded why it has always been one of my favorite spots in New York. The service is impeccable, the food is wonderful and the room is iconic. i am hopeful and anxious to see the next iteration of this experience when they find a new home.
Very overpriced for what you receive. The room ambiance is not very impressive for a Four Seasons. We had lunch there after having dinner at 21 the night before and Le Bernardine before that so we understand excellent but expensive meals. The regular clientele seems to be well taken care of while folks who are not regular seem not to be.
A heavenly experience. The service and the food were impeccable. My scallops had a mountain of shaved truffles on top! The captain, the waiter, and the server were all professional and warm. Delightful lunch!

The starters and desserts were nice but not exceptional. My wife had crab cake as her main course which she found greasy, although the ingredients were excellent. I'm a vegetarian and this is the real thrust of my disappointment with the restaurant, the vegetarian offering, and there was no choice, was simply uninspired. Incidentally the food at the the Four Seasons is easily surpassed by that at MOMA's Café 2.
Sorry to see it will close. I have eaten there since 1961, on my honeymoon. It has been a must ever since.
A classic New York experience is to be had at the Four Seasons. The service is impeccable and the food was excellent. I recommend the rib-eye burger. The setting is restrained, modern elegance at its best!
Always fresh and with seasonal ingredients. The level of service, quality of food, and atmosphere is unrivaled in NYC. Others try but this is iconic. The smoked salmon is melt in your mouth delicious ( carved table side ) bison, black bass and you cannot forget the grand mariner soufflé, no one does it better. Gisiuppe our waiter makes it our favorite restaurant anywhere.
It has two areas, the nice area and the business area. Since they consider an opentable an unimportant reference, they put us in the business area without table cloth and bad service. The nice area is a very chic place that has a fountain water in the middle, that we found out on our way out. The food was hotel standard, nothing out of the ordinary. We will not return to any of the two areas.
Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Food was so great. Atmosphere was pleasant. I would definitely recommend this place as a high end place to any one. The only minor thing in my opinion was that there was not a wide variety of food on the menu but the food was so delicious that covers it up.
