The Food Market Ratings and Reviews
Okay but some serious flaws. My wife and I visited the food market after rave reviews from our friends and coworkers during Baltimore's 2018 restaurant week. We found the food to less than perfect due to some parts of the meal. The beef short ribs
, Although moist and cooked well, was covered is a super sweet BBQ sauce that lacked the depth needed with such a fantastic piece of beef. Although we found the Blondie to be delicious and addictive the toffee bread pudding was severely burnt on the bottom leaving a bitter after taste. The Food Market has great portions and service however we believe it misses on some of the fine details to make it above some of the other farm to table restaurants in the area.
I've been to The Food Market a number of times and I've never been disappointed. This time I brought my boyfriend for his first visit and we were both incredibly happy with our experience. We had some delicious cocktails at the bar while waiting for our table. Everyone was super friendly and the food was absolutely phenomenal. The portion sizes are always perfect. Don't skip dessert- the Heath bar bread pudding is out of this world. Best restaurant in Hampton, hands down.
Everything was delicious! The 4/5 points for the food was due to our crab pot pie. Although delicious there was literally one piece of crab inside. That was disappointing. The filet potstickers, brussles sprouts, gumbo, blondie and bread pudding were all delicious. We assume the lack of crab was an error and plan to come again.
My husband and I dined for Restaurant Week and, as always, The Food Market never disappoints. This place has become one of our favorite restaurants. We are absolutely obsessed with the small plate dish called: spicy, cheesy, herby, creamy, winey, garlicky shrimp.. this was not on the restaurant week menu but we cannot come here and not get it. This dish is simply divine ....my husband and I battle over who will get that last bit of sauce to sop up with the bread. YUMMY! I ordered the beef wellington poppers, pickle brined fried chicken and the blondie dessert without the roasted marshmallow. Everything was very delicious and my husband was extremely pleased with his Pat Lafrieda burger. We both left the restaurant full and happy. Lastly, the complimentary valet is an added bonus because finding a parking spot in Hampden can be a challenge at times. I truly hope that this restaurant continues to remain consistent with the high quality food and service it provides.
The Food Market is one of the gems of the Baltimore city area! On the pricier side however you won't be disappointed by the food nor the atmosphere. The deals are great and vary from day to day. I haven't been there for happy hour but I can imagine it's a good deal. We went for restaurant week and were not disappointed at the quality/presentation.
Wonderful! I have been wanting to go here for a while and I’m glad I took advantage of Baltimore restaurant week and checked it out. The molasses flapjacks with ginger butter and duck scrapple was amazing, but the coconut cream pie at the end really capped off the meal. Excellent service and the Monroe cocktail I ordered was refreshing and delicious as well!
Food and service was very good. Got a nice table during a crowded time after speaking with the friendly staff on availability. We waited for about 10-15 mins after our reservation and ordered some delicious libations. We were with my folks from NC who appreciate good food and drink. The tables are close together which they weren’t thrilled about, but the ambiance was great, yet a little noisy to hold a long conversation. Food was delicious although some apps were a bit small for the $. Still coming back to this place.
When making a reservation at this place, be sure to ask for a table away from the bar. We were seated at a table across from the bar on a busy Sunday night and we felt like we were on display as we ate, being watched by several dozen people who were waiting for tables to open up:(
Why can't chefs and owners plan for a proper waiting area, other than the bar, when designing their restaurants. No one likes to be "guilt-tripped" into hurrying their meal by those waiting to be seated.
Dined there during restaurant week. We love The Food Market and appreciated the great menu and normal size portions during this week. One of us had the wellington poppers and roasted short rib, the other had the lobster butter over grits and the pickle brined fried chicken. We both thought all the dishes were outstanding. With the desserts, the chocolate one and the bread pudding, we both left full and happy. And for the price during restaurant week, fantastic. If you've never been there, this is a perfect week for your first visit, it won't be your last!
We visited during restaurant week, so we chose from a set menu (appetizer, meal, dessert); however the choices from the set menu were plentiful and varied. The roasted beef short ribs and the Heathbar bread pudding were AMAZING!! Our server was friendly and attentive. The restaurant is cozy and casual - very relaxing. That being said, the regular dinner menu is a bit pricey, so I would check it out online first to decide if you want to try it. For me, the food is worth another visit!
The Food Market is my favorite place to eat (so far) in Baltimore. It is located among countless shops on the Avenue making it not such a bad place to wait for a table. I came here most recently to catch up with a friend that lives 45 minutes north of Hampden, who suggested this restaurant because it's her favorite place to eat and worth the drive. We happened to make a reservation during restaurant week, which was great because we got to try even more foods and ended up so stuffed that we shared our desserts with the neighboring tables. Our server was hilarious but also professional and efficient. I will continue bringing visitors to this great place. I've never tasted anything here I didn't like. I'm a pescatarian but find it easy to find plenty of great dishes to eat. The menu is a bit pricey, but it's a great treat for a special occasion.
The Food Market continues to be on point. The food is always amazing, we didn't feel rushed despite the restaurant being a packed house the night we were there, and the service was great! I love how creative the menu is and always have a hard time deciding what to pick.
My wife and I really enjoyed our experience for her birthday. We love trying new things and we will return here to taste the rest of the menu for sure. The Brussels sprout appetizer was a big hit, the pork belly was tasty but slightly overcooked. The short rib with whipped potatoes was done perfectly, tender and delicious, and the portion was enough for dinner and lunch the next day. I had "the duck" cooked medium rare and it was perfectly done. The interplay of flavors and textures between the bird, the parsnips, the spatzle, and the confit kraut was almost dizzying, it was so good. The cocktails are a bit meh, but there is a good variety anyway and the beer and wine list is solid. Service was timely and not overbearing, though a neighboring table seemed slightly irritated at the exuberance of their server. The entire staff there that evening was very friendly. For the quality and portion of food, I think this is a great value and a great place for a date.
Went for NYE. We really enjoyed our meal. The complimentary valet service was a nice touch. The food was amazing. The bread with the cheese dip was awesome. The wings with the liquid cornbread was unique but nice. Our entrees all received rave reviews from the table. The only "negative" from our experience was being seated next to the front entrance curtain/window. It was extremely cold. I understand the need to have more tables to seat people but perhaps that table should be moved until summer. Just my $.02 other than that everything was great.
One of my favorite places to eat in Baltimore. However, this NYE I think they were overwhelmed in the kitchen, my order was incorrect and my dessert the blondie was frozen. Service is always great from Jermaine! He's is our favorite, we will not sit in anyone else's section!
