The Food Market Ratings and Reviews
Food and service are spectacular. Noise is horrific . I have not been to the Food Market for at least 3 years because of the noise, I missed everything else so a friend and I decided to give it another try for Sunday lunch. Still impossible to have a conversation. I cannot imagine what Saturday night might be like. Makes me sad as everything else is first rate.
We were visiting Baltimore for a family event and The Food Market was recommended to us. We had a great meal in an inviting atmosphere. Service was wonderful. We asked questions about the menu and our server had all the answers. We all had different fish dishes for our entrees after delicious starters (beet salad, crab soup, lobster fingers). The wine list was a bit limited for us but we made the best of it. Being from NY and LA we were very surprised when the check came. The cost of such a delicious meal was modest by what we are used to. Would definitely recommend !
Once again The Food Market was spot on! I invited two foodie friends who had never been and they loved it! From the deconstructed French onion soup appetizer to the short ribs with wet Gouda, every bite was perfect!! The server was knowledgeable and helped us make the right choices including our cocktails.
I look forward to the next visit!
The food and service was great! We've been here before and love it every time. However, this time we learned that then enforce a 20% gratuity for just 5 people. This seemed a little extreme for us as it greater than the standard 18% and starts early, at 5 people instead of 6. Small difference but has a large effect.
•utilitarian swank at its best
• note the reclaimed wood & louis vuitton entry partition.
•fresh and comforting twist on local flavors •complimentary beignets were a treat
•amish pretzels w lager cheese sauce won’t disappoint
•the cheese sauce should be on the shootermenu
•the duck quesadillas dazzeld & TFM wegde
was nothing shy of wonderful
•mad marys & the perfect brunch spot •definitely a bmore “to do”
•loved our server
thanks chefs for your fab flavors!
Upon looking at the menu we decided to order the Pork Belly small plate. It is incredible! Highly recommend it. However, we ordered the Steak Frites as a main course and it was covered in a poignant sauce which took away all of the flavor from the meat itself. We quickly told our waiter that we were unhappy with the meal and he seemed to have been offended and upset with us. We then proceeded to get another plate of the Pork Belly and thankfully the Steak Frites were taken off our check. I thought that was pretty pretentious of the staff to be upset with us for not liking their dish.
The food was outstanding as usual -- well prepared, well served, and interesting. We eat at The Food Market every time we come to Baltimore (at least twice a year, this year three times). There is one area which you can improve on: green salads. You surely can offer more that the "boring Caesar Salad" which could contain more interesting "salad greens" and ingredients. Make your green salads as interesting as the rest of your menu and as varied as some of your competitors. A small issue, but for you, all your menu selections should be up to your high standards.
The menu is interesting: divided between little, small, large, and in between items. Each section has great variety. You're sure to find more than one offering that will really please. Our only gripe was the service. Our waiter was more than friendly enough, but he made a few mistakes that spoiled an otherwise enjoyable experience. We'll go back soon, in hopes that we get a different waiter.
I really enjoyed The Food Market. We were greeted with enthusiasm and a smile even though it was extremely busy that Saturday evening, which set things on the track for a great night. We were seated at a two person table, which was bench seating on one side. This gave the restaraunt a more open and integrated feel. We even struck up conversation with the table next to us, which is a nice change of pace from the normal seclusion of dining out. To start off, their wine selection isn't the largest, but it has enough quality on there to get what you need, and not completely break the bank. As for food, We started off with the fried oysters, which was a great choice (Highly Recommend). For the entree i got the duck. It was served over fried corn meal and corn pudding. I hadnt had duck in ages, and it did not fail to surpass my expectations. My date got the blackened tuna, which was also great (from the couple bites I had). Overall I would recommend the food market to anyone and everyone!
