The Flying V at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort Ratings and Reviews
We chose this place to have dessert on our anniversary after seeing the restaurant patio from our hotel balcony. I wanted to sit on the patio because of the views, when we arrived the hostess, a young lady, told me that it was too cold to sit on the patio. I told her we didn't mind and I thought it was beautiful outside. She just gave me a look and I knew we wouldn't be sitting on the patio. That was the only bad part of our time there though. The dessert was nice and they even gave us one complimentary dessert since it was our anniversary.
We have been coming to this restaurant for at least 10 years. First, if you go before sunset, the view is amazing. There is an outdoor area to eat or sit casually by the fire pit and enjoy some appetizers and cocktails. The bar inside is fantastic if that's up your alley. The food is aways great and the drinks (especially the margaritas) and ambiance is also superb. We always get the table side guacamole. Tonight we had the Diver Scallops, Sea Bass and my husband always, always gets the full rack of ribs....these are the most flavorful, tender ribs on the planet. We are always too full for dessert, so I have no comments on them.
Tableside guacamole was good, however the V burger was completely undercooked (med. rare as opposed to med. well). Asked the waiter if the chef could cook it longer - It came back charred and bitter on the outside and STILL undercooked inside. I will say though that the manager did end up taking it off the bill and the service and views were great.
As always this restaurant did not not disappoint. Beautiful setting, wonderful ambience both inside and out, friendly staff and delicious food with good portion sizes. Particularly loved the warm tortilla chips served with guacamole made at the table from fresh ingredients. We will be back!
Our expectations of eating delicious food in a lovely setting were 100% met. We ate spareribs, lamb and scallops and relished every bite. The local vegetables were fresh and flavorful; not the usual predictable fare frequently offered. Service was friendly and efficient. The setting was above the rest--pun intended.
We've been to Flying V over the years as locals on a few occasions. We'd gotten a gift card over the holidays from our son, so prior to moving, we went out to eat. We arrived early. Dining area was empty, so we were readily accommodated. The staff was pleasant. Our waiter was nice but either he wasn't paying attention, or the chef wasn't.i believe the latter. My meal came incorrectly. It was sent back. Everyone's meal was there, and I knew the 2nd attempt would yield horrid results. In fact, it came back burnt and rubbery on the outside and overcooked on the inside. The fries were tepid and over fried. I sent it back. While they wanted to do it again, at that point everyone was about done eating and I was over it. Our waiter apologized but the decent thing would've been the manager or chef coming to the table. The quality of food has definitely gone down over the years and the cost up. Don't recommend unless it's for a late night drink. What a waste of money. There was 4 at our table. We had a $100 gift card and a 25% off total coupon and it still cost us almost $30. Too many great restaurants in town to throw money away here.
Had our table waiting for us as requested. The service was well timed and the meal prepared to perfection.
A wonderful way to share our 37th anniversary. Rock Saul the manager stopped by to wish a happy anniversary as well. Oh, and the complementary dessert was amazing.
We celebrated our 36 year anniversary at the Flying V and were very pleased.
Food was amazing
Drinks were good
Service was good, until we received our food then a bit slow.
Value was very good
Remodeling outside the windows in the lake view and it was just left a mess, at least have someone clean up the area so diners don't have to look at a huge mess.
It is always a pleasure to dine at The Flying V. Rock Saul is always very welcoming. Our service is consistently excellent. Cocktails are great. Our dinner included the Calamari Appetizer, Barramundi with Lobster Risotto and Baby Back Ribs. All well very well prepared and tasted wonderful. Abe, our server, was attentive and professional. We can highly recommend dining here.
Mixture of southwestern and traditional American fare at this restaurant overlooking one of the golf courses at the Loews resort. Ambience is more country club casual than fine dining, but window views are very nice and food and service were fine. We had the ribs, which were fall off the bone good. Tableside guac was excellent but a bit overpriced at $18. The French fries were some of the best we have had in Tucson and the included southwestern cornbread was delicious.
Atmosphere is amazing. Food was good quality and portions were good sized. Only downside is that it is expensive for a "bar and grill". I don't think the food quality matches its prices. If I am going to pay fine dining prices, then I expect fine dining food and service.
We both liked Fabian's service - thoughtful, prompt but unobtrusive;
rack of lamb was delicious, cooked exactly to our specification; imaginative
presentation of vegetables; dessert to die for! The noise level was conducive
to easy conversation, the wine and coffee excellent and overall a very pleasant
experience. This was 'an occasion' in that it was a 'gathering' of two old
friends and the evening with you exceeded our expectations. Thank you.
Wife had rack of lamb, one of her favorites. Was disappointed by serving size, 2 small ribs, tasted somewhat bland. Vegetables and salad were very good.
Service was very slow.
Since we are locals and have a choice of very good restaurants in the city, I doubt we would travel across town to eat here on special occasions. It was our anniversary and we were enjoying a "staycation" at Ventana Canyon Resort.
Always enjoy a dinner when in town. Had the half rack ribs and they were excellent as usual. Asked for a substitution of the corn on the cob to a twice baked potato, and while the up charge was a little steep $5) it was worthwhile. We ate outside and I highly recommend that as it is quieter. Just don't go when the sun is up.
Great view of the golf course, we had requested a nice view and they didn't disappoint. They also were understanding of having to change our reservation after our plans had changed for the day. Due to a late lunch, we shared an app and an entree and they were fine with that - even split our entree for us which was very nice. Some restaurants frown on splitting entrees. The Tuna tartare was excellent!
