The Flying V at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort Ratings and Reviews
Very disappointing visit. Even mentioned to the manager that the experience was less than stellar and he obviously did not know what to say or do. Service was atrociously slow. Bright spot was the bus boy who made sure we had water and engaged the guests well. Overall just a very poor experience.
We made a reservation for 6 through open table and upon arrival the hostess was unable to find it. I showed the confirmation, but regardless we had to wait. After this the waiter was friendly, however the service was the worst I’ve ever had at this restaurant. I’ve been here several times, but after this time do not plan to return. We waited for 30 mins for appetizers, no dressings for the salads, another 15 min wait to get that. Waters frequently empty, to the point we went to the bar to have them refilled as nobody came by.
The day we arrived, it was not busy. However, it was clear the staff was not happy to be working over the holiday weekend, or so they made us feel that way. I currently live in NY, so when I came back to town my family was hoping to have a nice meal out with me and my brother (who lives in oklahoma), but this was terribly disappointing.
Needless to say, we will never use this restaurant for our get togethers.
As we live locally, we have been to Loews Ventana Canyon many times. But we had never dined at the Flying V. It was wonderful. Not only was the food excellent, but we had added fun moving outside for our coffee and dessert. Our waiter was more than happy to accommodate our request to do this. A lovely evening it was!
We stopped by on a Friday night during the holiday season. The hotel itself was bustling with very large holiday parties. The restaurant was very comfortable. Our server was pleasant and attentive, but not overly so. Lots of dinner options. We ordered the Brussels sprout salad, and much to our surprise, it arrived warm, not cold, so double check that. Overall, and enjoyable meal.
It was my first dining experience at Ventana since I moved from Seattle, other than the Audubon Gala. A long time friend was visiting from Seattle so we utilized your facility Food was terrific, can't say too much about the waitstaff, other than stellar. Definitely coming back.
Everything was wonderful from the reservation process to the actual dining experience. We were celebrating my daughters birthday. It was nice to not have to remind the wait staff of the special occasion that I had indicated during the making of my reservation. Have dined here several times and will do so again.
This place was really hyped up by Trip Advisor and suppose to be the #2 place to eat in Tucson for fine dining - forget about it and go somewhere else!
The food was good (bread was most yummy), but when you consider the cost and the service, it was not worth it.
I was expecting the wine list to be more creative than it was? For a place that is ranked #2, you would have expected a sommelier.
When we invited some guests from Australia to dinner, the Flying V was one of their desires. None of us were disappointed. The food was magnificent all around. The guacamole appetizer was prepared table side just to our tastes -- yummy. All of the main courses were superb, from seafood (especially the scallops and sea bass) to the steaks (perfectly cooked). Throughout the evening the service was outstanding . All in all a great experience that pleased everyone in the party!
We chose this place to have dessert on our anniversary after seeing the restaurant patio from our hotel balcony. I wanted to sit on the patio because of the views, when we arrived the hostess, a young lady, told me that it was too cold to sit on the patio. I told her we didn't mind and I thought it was beautiful outside. She just gave me a look and I knew we wouldn't be sitting on the patio. That was the only bad part of our time there though. The dessert was nice and they even gave us one complimentary dessert since it was our anniversary.
We tried several restaurants during our visit to Tucson. But who would have thought that one of the best was right in our hotel. The menu leans toward Southwestern cuisine. Don't miss the excellent handcrafted cocktails. And ask for Fabian, our server. Personable, knowledgeable, and just the right amount of attentive. He even shared restaurant recipes with us.
We have been coming to this restaurant for at least 10 years. First, if you go before sunset, the view is amazing. There is an outdoor area to eat or sit casually by the fire pit and enjoy some appetizers and cocktails. The bar inside is fantastic if that's up your alley. The food is aways great and the drinks (especially the margaritas) and ambiance is also superb. We always get the table side guacamole. Tonight we had the Diver Scallops, Sea Bass and my husband always, always gets the full rack of ribs....these are the most flavorful, tender ribs on the planet. We are always too full for dessert, so I have no comments on them.
Tableside guacamole was good, however the V burger was completely undercooked (med. rare as opposed to med. well). Asked the waiter if the chef could cook it longer - It came back charred and bitter on the outside and STILL undercooked inside. I will say though that the manager did end up taking it off the bill and the service and views were great.
As always this restaurant did not not disappoint. Beautiful setting, wonderful ambience both inside and out, friendly staff and delicious food with good portion sizes. Particularly loved the warm tortilla chips served with guacamole made at the table from fresh ingredients. We will be back!
