Excellent food and service! The decor was great, they've given a lot of thought into blending the historic building with the modern restaurant. A real gem.
Excellent service from beginning to end, greeted with a smile, taken to our table in a timely matter. First time there, very much enjoyed our dinner. I would highly recommend this place. Would gladly go again. Cheers to the staff from the greeters to the chef.. you all do an excellent job.
Fantastic food and outstanding service from Lyv. Great ambiance
Our second visit to this restaurant. The food was outstanding as well as the service. We will be returning in April for graduation celebration.
The scallop appetizer was the best I’ve ever had.
I was with a party of 6 and all entrees were excellent.
Will definitely visit again💕💕💕
this is are second time here from pei what can i say the food the service the surroundings second to none .the atmosphere is lovely quiet ideal for the romantic couple .thanks guys for a lovely experience
We have been to The Five Fishermen many times, often on New Year's Eve. This was our first visit since the major renovation. I'm sure the reno has improved the space for people who work there -- servers, cleaners, etc. -- and probably there are customers who appreciate the changes also. But in the past, I think one of the restaurant’s charming attractions was the knowledge that you were in an historic Halifax building. That ambiance is gone and replaced by new floors, new bars, new chairs and tables, several booths.
As if to emphasize the break with the past, there was loud music – not pleasing background music but modern rock sounds and also rap/hip hop. It was loud enough to inhibit conversation.
That said, we enjoyed our evening, as we always do. The food was good -- we went with the New Year's Eve special of surf 'n' turf. The restaurant was crowded and hectic and the service reflected that. Servers were busy but we were not rushed or kept waiting.
I'm sure we will go to The Five Fishermen again. It's almost a tradition. My biggest disappointment was the nature of the renovation and that can't be undone. Maybe some changes could be made in the music choices and volume, however.
Happy New Year to all.
Overpriced for the quality and quantity of food.Without the bread, would’ve left hungry.Disappointed for a New Years Eve meal.
New Years Eve with family.
Loved it! Amazing food and great service, we will be back!
We enjoyed our evening out. Very Nice atmosphere and food.
Excellent restaurant. Will be going there again in future
Exceptional food and service in the most gorgeously-renovated space. Most restaurants that have been around this long are past their prime - The Five Fisherman is definitely not one of them. Nothing but praise for his Halifax gem! The 5 Fish dish is a must-have - but be sure to upgrade the green pea risotto to lobster risotto... well worth it. Our compliments to the chef!
Excellent service. They made a small mistake on drinks and comped them right away. Also free bubbly. Wonderful main dishes.
Great food great service. I don’t even like seafood and this was excellent
The service and food were fantastic from beginning to end!
Excellent food, excellent value, excellent service!
My husband and I came to Halifax to take our daughter out for her "Champagne " Birthday. She chose The Five Fisherman. We were led to our seat which happened to be on the upper floor overlooking Grand Parade Square. The service was excellent. Our server's name was Liv(?). We enjoyed a beautiful meal in a cozy atmosphere. As we just finished our dessert, we watched the Christmas tree lighting and fireworks show. We didn't know that was taking place before hand. Thank you to all who made the occasion an awesome memorable experience.
Great location, view, ambiance, food and service. A little pricey but worth it.
Lovely and stylish place, great food & good service. Only regretful they ran out of whole lobster, as that was one of the reasons we came
My visit surpassed my expectation. We had been here 17 years ago. The service was excellent. The waiter was attentive without being intrusive. The good was excellent. It was a quiet night, so the candle lighting really set the mood.
Wait service was friendly and prompt however manager on duty was unprofessional and made many at our table uncomfortable. I doubt we would return
Our last night of a holiday, stopped in for a delicious chowder. As if that wasn’t enough, kicked it into gear with the Lobster Pot Pie. Need I say more??
One of the worst dining experiences in Halifax I have ever encountered. I took a friend from out of province to celebrate his birthday and have never been so embarrassed at show casing our east coast city. From the reception to the attitude of the waiter, being rushed through a meal in 55 minutes, to the mice and unapologetic manager, there wasn't much more that could go wrong with this restaurant choice.
One of the best meals I’ve ever eaten!
This restaurant was recently renovated and although it is very nice it is missing its old charm. The servers we’re capable but inexperienced. The cocktails were average. The food was presented well, prepared well and very tasty. The tables are not too close so that you can have a conversation and actually hear what is said at the table. This is a big plus. All in all it was a good experience and would definitely return.
Too expensive , unless your rich. Food was fine but not exceptional. Small "gourmet " servings. Would not recommend. Plenty of better options nearby
We had outstanding service. Clara and Alain went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. And the food was excellent. Top of our list for our next visit!
Delecious food ! I liked grilled salmon in maple syrup souce
Despite the name of the restaurant, it needs a few more selections of non-seafood dishes. Music was a bit loud for me. Waiter was new but did a great job! I really like that one person sat us, another brought water, our waiter took the order, others brought our food. That's teamwork. Well done!
Lobster pot pie was excellent and so was the dirty Martini.
Fun night out with friends. Halibut was delicious!
Great food, great service, but a little pricey would be my only complaint.
Basically the best meal I ever ate.
The old five fisherman had more character, appeal, charm and history. Now it is just another cookie cutter restaurant. Menu was much better previously. Server was great. No longer is a maritime restaurant.
Notre serveur se nommait Alain. Nous avons énormément apprécié pouvoir échanger en français avec lui. Il a su vite faire parti de nos taquineries et le souper a été des plus agréables grâce à son amabilité, son sens d'humour, et son professionnalisme. Merci.
This was a great find. Definitely good for a special occasion. The restaurant was comfortable, if a little crowded. The service was perfect. Our server was very professional; attentive but not intrusive, helpful without being pushy. The seafood was absolutely delicious. Honestly, one of the best meals I have ever had! It wasn't cheap, but you get what you pay for.
Very busy hot spot. The staff was accommodating and knowledgeable. Dinner was fresh and delicious local seafood. It is pricey but well worth it.
This restaurant came highly recommended so I was very excited to eat there while visiting Halifax. I was disappointed. The smorgasbord portions were very small. They included edamame in the discription and there were literally 6 beans scattered on the plate.
The market salad was also tiny! As were their oysters.
Beer selection was also very limited.
We quickly got our bill and went somewhere else to eat.
The service was ok and the place is nice but I’d suggest going there for a drink only!
With the most recent renovation I feel the ambiance was lost.
Missed the mussel and oyster bar
The history of the building was not marketed on the menu or any of the literature which is a shame
