The Five Fishermen Ratings and Reviews
Service and atmosphere was very good. It is a seafood restaurant but decided to order the steak. Based on the menu description, cuts offered and price, I expected a quality meal. Well, I could barely get through half the steak. I kept trying to navigate around the gristle but eventually gave up. I shared my disappointment with the server and at the end of the meal was granted a $25 discount towards my next meal. This is a huge assumption that I'll want to return. I was very disappointed. Poor value for the cost. Fortunately my business guest was pleased with his meal.
The food was absolutely delicious. The staff are well versed and are quick to respond to questions about the various offerings. Even on a Thursday night I would recommend you make a reservation, it was getting very busy by the time we left (8:00). Great timing between plates. Extensive wine menu. And Bonus they offer free valet parking. When I booked I was asked if it was a special occasion. It was my husband's birthday and low and behold he was given a card, signed by all the staff, and his desert was free. Nice touch.
My wife and I were at Five Fishermen to celebrate our 51 st Wedding anniversary. This was our third consecutive, and one of many, celebrations of that and other events at this location.
The food was exception. Our waiter was very professional and helpful.
The recent renovations are very well done.
This is indeed our favorite spot for fine dining in Halifax
The staff were outstanding on Sat night. We were celebrating my granddaughter's 18th birthday and we couldn't have asked for better service. I took in a cake that I had made and they graciously brought it to the table with candles lit at the appropriate time. Thank you all.
Felt like a night out in Paris! Five fisherman made my birthday extragantly elegant! Amazing ambiance and warm staff. Everyone was so kind and graceful. Although our party was in a rush, nevertheless we were granted a 5 star experience. I felt I was being treated like a Queen by the gentleman waiter as he gifted me with a single rose and birthday card on behalf of everyone from the top chef to the valet guy! Quite personable and special I’d say. It was a smooth evening with an exotic touch! Can’t wait to dine in again!
Lovely renovations since my last visit. More up to date and not so dark upstairs. We had a great table overlooking Parade Square. The menu had been recently updated. Not as extensive as before. I think I preferred the old menu. Our choices were the seared scallops and the five fish. Both excellent. We did not enjoy the deserts. Apple tart ( very hard over-cooked crust). The white chocolate creme brûlée was runny and not cooked. Overall a good experience.
Incredible experience. We went to 5 Fishermen for my husband's birthday and they made it hands down the best dining experience we've ever had. When we first arrived, we were given two flutes of champagne to celebrate, and throughout the meal we were constantly impressed by our server and the staff. They were full of great recommendations and SO friendly. The food was absolutely spectacular - the fall menu is impeccable and I had the best braised shortrib I've ever had. I can't wait to try to winter menu! At the end of the meal, my husband was given a card for his birthday signed by the entire staff and it was just an incredible touch that made him feel so special. We absolutely loved our time and will be making 5 Fishermen our go-to for all special occasions without a doubt. Thank you!
Phenomenal service from the time we walked in the door until we walked out, all of the staff we came in contact treated us as if we were the only people in the restaurant. The food was well presented, prepared as requested and delicious. The Five Fishermen is a restaurant I will recommend without hesitation and will certainly visit again.
The food and service were superb, but we don't understand why you would want to play loud pop vocal music in such a classy place?
Some of the best restaurants that we go to across the country don't have any music at all. Or if you must, then how about some soft jazz or string music or anything instrumental.
Was in Halifax for the weekend to do Christmas shopping. Five Fishermen was recommended to us from a server at the restaurant that we went to the night before. We very pleased with the quick service, the valet parking, amazing food and great staff. Alain was our server and he was wonderful.
Awesome service. Went for our anniversary and were greeted with complimentary glasses of champagne to get us started. The whole staff was made aware it was our anniversary and several of them wished us a happy anniversary, which was a nice touch. Food was great. Pricy, but for a special occasion, you get what you pay for.
The ambience was amazing, recently renovated with a rustic, contemporary vibe. The food was excellent, I got the five fish platter but I wasn't a fan of the swordfish. My boyfriend loved the sea bass special. The bartender was also amazing and provided custom tailored drinks to a few people in our party as well as others around us. Our server was very friendly as well. It's definitely a restaurant to visit in Halifax!
Food and service were good, however it was disappointing that most of the fish was neither local nor fresh. Much of it has been shipped from far away. Given the availability of fresh cod, haddock, etc. locally, this was a surprise.
It was also a surprise that the coffee is made from pods, not fresh.
Had reservations for 7PM on a Tuesday. Had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. Had to ask to be moved because of the noise level. Had to wait another 10 minutes before server appeared. Food was better than average. Attractive surroundings. Parking can be problematic.
We were told about this restaurant by people who had been to Halifax and it was not a disappointment. They change their menu for the 4 seasons and use local ingredients. We had one of the Favorites called Five Fish and it did not disappoint. We also had the best waiter Luca who was attentive to our needs and quite charming as well. If we ever get back to Halifax we will surely dine here again.
