The Five Fishermen Ratings and Reviews
Date was given a free drink on Valentine’s Day which put her confidence though the roof which I had to deal with the rest of the night. 1 star.
First time at Five Fishermen. Experience was great, waiter was extremely nice and the food was delicious. Cant wait to try more options from their menu.
This was a disappointing experience. Our table location was poor, being in a high traffic area for wait staff. The ambience was generally noisy. The chowder appetizer was a bit too salty and the pasta entrée was undercooked. If you want a quiet place to have dinner, this is not it.
Tyler our waiter was terrible. If he considered this to be fine dining, he needs to get out a little. This was not fine dining or fine service. Will not be back.
Get more value for my dollar at McDonald's which I do not go to but would, before I would return to Five Fisherman.
This was our second meal at the 5 Fish since they renovated. We enjoyed our last meal so we decided to go back with friends. Unfortunately the experience underwhelmed.
Our server Emily was great. Unfortunately the food was not.
The “warm” bread was frozen inside and had to be sent back to be warmed up in the grill.
My wife and I each had the Five Fish platter. The scallops and shrimp were cold. The bed of risotto that the meal was served on was so salty that it was inedible.
Not sure why the kitchen was having problems because the place was more than half empty.
I suspect it will be a while before we go back.
To celebrate a special birthday we chose The Five Fishermen. From the time we walked in until we walked out we were treated like special guests. The staff was very attentive, there to answer any questions. Often their recommendations were taken particularly for drinks, which were excellent. Everyone went away extremely happy with the food and treatment by the staff. Well worth a return visit for any occasion.
Early dinner after play at Neptune. Wait staff very welcoming and friendly. Menu was diverse. Service was timely. Our low rating was because our food was just bairly warm. Bowls and plates were cold and therefore so was our food. Our food came all together, A+ for that. However, there was too much time between serving and tasting and telling that it was not hot.
It’s tough to make clients feel truly special, but what they did for my mothers birthday honestly touched me. They made such an effort to make her feel special from giving her roses, a signed card from every member of the staff, dessert with a candle, champagne...what a wonderful way to treat people.
One of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had! The staff were phenomenal! Friendly and helpful. The added touches for celebrating a birthday made the evening even more special. The food was unique and very flavourful. The valet parking is an added touch that really made our night. Highly recommend this restaurant.
over riding sense around us the entire time was that we need to order , eat, and leave ; so the table can be used by next customers in line .
Serving staff seemed to be under pressure and non wait senior staff did persistent rounds of all the tables in a very obvious fashion , as if to say , " don't let us see you getting too comfortable "
very uncomfortable for us during our meal
The prices were high for what you received. We ordered mussels to start and they were small and stringy. Some were so stringy that you couldn't get them off the shell. The Five Fishermen used to have great mussels. The dessert selection was very poor and I love dessert but didn't have one. We had one starter between us, an entre each and wine and the check was over 150.00
The food and service was extraordinary, however the volume an choice of music on the sound system was a problem for me. It was pop music and it was quite loud. I could not have a quite conversation with my wife at our table.
I recommend piano music for dining.
I grew up in Halifax with the old Five Fishermen.
You cannot compare the two. Experience was a lot better!
We had Wood Fire grilled Arctic Char with two different sauces. The chimichurri was the best I ever had. pineapple salsa was good too.
We had grilled cauliflower appetizer that was out of this world GOOD!
My boyfriend and I wanted to try different dishes; which is what we did by ordering shark, swordfish and char. I didnt really care for them; but at least I tried it. I found the mussels and scallops couldve been cooked more for my liking, and there was alot of pepper on my food; which I wasnt too fussy about. I dont know if I would try it again; but at least I can say I have one thing off my bucket list. The experience was great, and the service was absolutely enjoyable, and the atmosphere was pleasant. If I do go again, I'll stick to food that I am familiar with, and really enjoy. Thank you very much
1. MUSIC was too loud for "older" 60's group even after requesting and having the volume reduced . This was expected to be a lovely evening with extensive chatter. Could barely hear the guests at the ends of the table even while sitting in the middle of "7"
2. Food was excessively expensive for what was delivered. There were pieces of the meal that were really enjoyed but NOT the overall meal (cauliflower app was wonderful)
3. Alcohol was excessively expensive. Over $21 for an 8 oz. glass of Pinot Grigio ...ridiculous.
4. Overall all return trip disappointment as compared to a much better experience from a significant number of years ago especially because we brought a group of relatives/friends at our recommendation (7 guests in total) . We were in Halifax to attend a family wedding and are not native to Halifax but we will NOT be returning or recommending this restaurant to family and friends who are either visiting or residents of the area.
5. Waiters mixed up meal placement for about 1/2 of the guests and had to be requested to redirect to the individual who had ordered the meal.
A friend from out of province was visiting and had been anticipating our dinner at The Five Fisherman for quite sometime. it exceeded her expectations as well as my own! We shared the Lobster Mac and Cheese, Truffle Fries, and The Five Fish. Our server was great; very efficient and attentative. The drinks were great and of course the food was amazing.
We brought Business friends from out of town to Five Fishermen to enjoy Maritime seafood and unique ambiance, our guests were completely thrilled with the experience
Everything from location to service to food was excellent. The view of Downtown Halifax was unique and added to the overall experience
We would definitely recommend Five Fishermen to anyone
This is probably one of the best meals I have ever had. Every single item we ordered was absolutely outstanding. I highly recommend the lobster mash and the seafood Smorgasbord, the Smorgasbord had an amazing Salmon ceviche. This place knows good customer service, we were very well taken care of. When booking through open table, we were able to let them know it was for a birthday celebration. The Manager and our host made the night really special for us, it’s definitely an eating experience I will never forget. I cannot wait to come back in the summer for round 2!
We were at The Five Fishermen recently for a birthday celebration and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The food was fantastic (swordfish and salmon) - cooked to perfection with seasonal vegetables. The wait staff was professional, knowledgeable and pleasant. The restaurant has recently been renovated and there was definitely a "wow" factor regarding the decor. We will definitely be returning in the near future.
Service and atmosphere was very good. It is a seafood restaurant but decided to order the steak. Based on the menu description, cuts offered and price, I expected a quality meal. Well, I could barely get through half the steak. I kept trying to navigate around the gristle but eventually gave up. I shared my disappointment with the server and at the end of the meal was granted a $25 discount towards my next meal. This is a huge assumption that I'll want to return. I was very disappointed. Poor value for the cost. Fortunately my business guest was pleased with his meal.
The food was absolutely delicious. The staff are well versed and are quick to respond to questions about the various offerings. Even on a Thursday night I would recommend you make a reservation, it was getting very busy by the time we left (8:00). Great timing between plates. Extensive wine menu. And Bonus they offer free valet parking. When I booked I was asked if it was a special occasion. It was my husband's birthday and low and behold he was given a card, signed by all the staff, and his desert was free. Nice touch.
