The Fishery Ratings and Reviews
Nice ambiance. Food was presented very nicely and was good enough tasting but did not possess a distinctive quality that would warrant noting. But the mist disappointing part of the dining experience was the service or rather lack of interest all together. After ordering our appetizers and entree’s, the next time our waiter appeared was to bring a dessert menu after our plates and glasses had been cleared. That would be acceptable if I had ordered a $3 taco and been given a numbered receipt to pick up at the counter when called, but not in a restaurant where the modest dinner for 2 was just over $100. Needless to say, i don’t think I’d return even if I was a Cass St. regular.
Easy parking for this darling smallish place. They also sell fish. There are two sides to the restaurant. The right in the corner is the quietest, as we had a "hard of hearing" person with us.
The staff was super and the food delicious. A nice place to go where the tables are not so squished together that you can talk.
Found this restaurant by looking at local places within walking of our air bnb; it was spectacular! Our waitress recommended a tasty wine in my price range and the seafood selections made it difficult to choose. Went with the macadamia crusted halibut with broccolini and yams; fabulous. I had a lemon parfait and my daughter had lemon sorbet, both refreshing palate cleansers after the meal.
The clam chowder tasted like something I could've bought at the grocery store. It was full of potato and not enough clams and not enough flavor. I ordered the Seabass which is my favorite fish and I've had it many many times while dining at other restaurants in San Diego. This came with a ginger lemongrass broth that was not only bland but completely took away the taste of the fish. The entire dish swim in the sauce and was horrible! The service was nice; they tried to make it up to me by giving me a free dessert, which in my opinion they should've taken the meal completely off the bill. I paid $62 for a lousy meal that I didn't eat !
This was our second time here, and I must say it was not as good as the first vist. Maybe it was because it was a week day instead of a weekend, but the food and the service were not at the same level as previous .
It was disappointing since we were visiting our daughter at UCSD and this was our farewell dinner before we went home . Everything was just "average"..
Visited the Fishery with my wife and another couple this past Wednesday. I had never heard of this restaurant before, but was quite pleased we chose it after our meal was complete. The restaurant is well appointed and attractive. Plenty of choices for cocktails, wine, and beer. Service was attentive, non-intrusive. Excellent ceviche appetizer, and the fish special offered that evening as an entree was superb. My wife is not much of a fish eater, but likes fish and chips--and enjoyed what was served here immensely. My friend had the shrimp tacos and loved them. We were seated at 6pm--by 730pm the restaurant was nearly full with a much higher noise level at that time. We left very satisfied and will definitely return another day!
I hosted a business dinner at the restaurant. The food was very nice. Some of our party ordered appetizers and Main courses and some ordered main courses only. The appetizers came at the same time as the main courses for those who ordered main courses only. The main courses for the rest came before we had completed our appetizers so we either had to leave our appetizers or let our main courses get cold on the table ( for which there was not enough room for both). I think the kitchen or waiting staff need a lesson in timing.
