I made a reservation for 915 pm and walked up to the hostess desk they told me it will be a little bit but they would let us know when the table is ready. I sat there until about 925 while I watched them seat instantly 3 other people who had reservations for 930 no one came to get us finally because I was so frustrated I had my boyfriend go ask them when it’s our turn the lady who wasn’t the same as before said oh I can seat you now! Really? Wow all while we were waiting workers stared at us but no one bothered to ask if we have been seated. I am not from Sacramento and was here for a weekend getaway. I read all these reviews about this place and because it’s expensive I expected a lot but to be treated poorly I hope I get an apology because I will make sure everyone knows they don’t treat young people well
Salad was best part of the meal. Bread was also good, but entree and sides were mediocre. It was overall a good meal but for the price, wasn’t anything spectacular. Downstairs was way too loud for conversation. Upstairs was better for a quiet meal.
Overall, I'd say the food was okay, but not worth the price and the service was stuffy and poor. Not really sure what people's fuss is over this place when there are so many great restaurants in sac.
It was honestly one of the worst dining experiences in my entire life. Insulting waiting staff, obviously re-heated food, and an even more confusing menu. I will never be attending this restaurant ever again.
Made reservations for Dine Downtown week and had a fantastic dinner. Our waiter was wonderful and the food couldn’t have been better. Firehouse never disappoints!
The food is always delicious and the wine list is the best in Northern California!!!!
We have been to the Firehouse before and had good experiences. We were disappointed this time as we were given a table in the crowded basement instead of the main dining area. We, the people around us and the staff were all uncomfortable. Salmon was dry/overcooked. Nothing special about the experience as we've come to expect. Plenty of other restaurant choices. We had a completely different experience the next evening at Rio City Cafe.
Our experience at the Firehouse is always superb. This visit was for Dine Downtown, which we never miss. They did not disappoint. The food and service were outstanding. You really cannot do better in this town.
My newly Fiance and I came here shortly after I proposed and the experience we had at Firehouse made the day just that much more special for us. THANK YOU Firehouse for making this special day an absolutely perfect way to cap of the night. We cannot wait to come back and make this our staple anniversary date night go to
This was my first time dining at the Firehouse since I moved away from Sacramento many decades ago. I was very happy to find that the things that made this restaurant great when I was a member of their clientele, has not changed. This grand old charmer that drips with history makes any meal an enjoyment. It goes without saying that the food, oh my goodness the food, was excellent. It was an anniversary occasion for my girlfriend and I, and she had never been to this restaurant. She loved it, we both did and have established a new tradition. The Fire House Restaurant will be our "Go To" for our anniversary celebrations.
It was an excellent experience for our first time there.
The Firehouse is a great restaurant we go on special occasions, last evening was or 45th Anniversary the staff rolled out the red carpet.
My husband's steak was had a tendon running through the steak which made it unchewable. My chicken was good. We experienced Dine Downtown for the first time at your restaurant. The salad was a little unimaginative but the bread was excellent. The desert was excellent. We were pleased. The service was above average.
I ordered a lobster tail along with my salmon dinner and never got it. When dessert came I pointed out that I didn’t my lobster. The response was oh I’m sorry it got really busy in the kitchen. Nothing else, no compensation, no hey dessert is on us.
The quality of food wasn’t what I expected. I ordered the New York strip medium rare and the lobster tail. The New York strip was extremely chewy and the lobster was overcooked. I understand that this was a popular choice but the quality of food could have been better.
Of the countless times we have been to The Firehouse we have been disappointed only once. And, unlike some other restaurants we have been not pleased with, they more than made up for it, instead of making excuses.
We had a wonderful experience at The Firehouse! We arrived early for our reservation and had a drink at the bar while we waited - the bartenders were engaging and told us the history of the building. Not long after arriving, we were seated in a corner table downstairs and we enjoyed being able to look at the patio while dining. Our server Daniel was great - very friendly and knowledgeable. We were participating in Dine Downtown and the food was amazing! We will definitely return for our next special occasion.
Never disappointed in the over 35 years visiting-excellent food service and competence
I came here for Dine Downtown 2019 with two of my friends. It was super easy to make a reservation through OpenTable. We valeted our car for $5 easily. Once we checked in, we were promptly seated. The restaurant is bigger than I thought and we were led downstairs. The restaurant is beautiful and they have a lovely courtyard as well.
The mixed greens salad was great. Personally, there was too much apple cider vinaigrette, but the mixed greens were fresh and I love walnuts. I opted for the grilled New York strip steak and the lobster for $15 extra. The strip steak was the perfect medium rare and the lobster was perfect. My only gripe was that I wasn't a fan of the yukon gold potatoes and the brussel sprouts. I opted for the Valrhona chocolate mousse cake and got a decaf coffee. I'm glad I got some coffee, because the cake was delicious, but sooo rich. The staff was great and I enjoyed my Dine Downtown experience. Thank you!!
I took advantage of the dine downtown special and booked a table for my boyfriend and I. Upon entering we were placed in a secluded booth near the back, I was very fond of the seating it was both romantic, secluded and quiet despite the restaurant being completely full. The service was absolutely outstanding, our server was warm, funny and attentive (I forget her name). There was never a moment when my water wasn't refilled or I was in need of anything, the staff were pros at anticipating the needs of their customers. Despite the how busy DD gets, we were still treated like we were the only ones in the restaurant and we were thanked by all the staff as we left.
Now that I'm i'm finished gushing over the service, I can talk about the food which did not meet my expectations. The dine downtown menu was simple enough, one salad, 4 main courses to choose from and 2 desserts to choose from. Our server even mentioned potential add ons such as a 15$ wine flight and a 15$ add on of lobster tail or pork belly to any entree. I got the vegetarian option which was a vegetable napoleon. My boyfriend got the NY steak. The salads was quite honestly something I often make at home; spring mix, sweet tart dressing, blue cheese and fruit. It wasn't bad but it wasn't impressive for a fine dining establishment. My entree was what I was most disappointed in the most, the napoleon was layers of vegetables like sweet potato and spinach stacked with a tomato and ricotta sauce. It was was too simple, too bland, their wasn't a wow factor to the dish. The dish wasn't complex at all, the sauce tasted like tomato paste and the ricotta wasn't seasoned with herbs but just slathered on, once again it wasn't bad but underwhelming and not memorable. My boyfriend enjoyed his steak very much, calling it tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. My favorite part was the desserts, a apple cake and mousse cake, they were tasty though not amazing.
Very elegant and fancy. Dine downtown was a great opportunity to visit because it is expensive, and the dine downtown provided a great deal.
We came to celebrate our anniversary. We used the Djne Downtown Menu. It was the same as the previous two years and was fine but we will look for a different restaurant next year.
My wife and I enjoyed our dinner very much. The service was spot on and food was delicious. Well spiced and the presentation was spot on.
Food, presentation and service were all outstanding. We ordered from the Dine Downtown special menu. Atlantic salmon and the New York strip steak entrees were both excellent. The desserts were decadent, and I had the absolute best cup of decaf coffee I have ever tasted. The staff is professional, attentive and cordial. This is a special, historic restaurant that epitomizes the best of Old Sacramento. We will return.
We participated in Dine Downtown. Our group of eight is from the Yuba/Sutter area. Dine Downtown offered us an opportunity to try out another outstanding restaurant in Sacramento. Everything was great. Sean our server was outstanding!
Everyone knows the Firehouse is one of the best restaurants in town. We were there for Dine Downtown. We both chose the New York steak and were offered an upgrade of lobster tail which we both accepted. The bread and salad were excellent, and my steak was perfect. My husband's steak was a bit more rare than preferred even though we both ordered medium rare. My lobster tail was almost raw and my husband's was just barely done. The server took mine back and it was retuned looking much better. However, halfway through it was still very underdone. They graciously removed one of the lobster charges from our bill. I told the server I would take the remainder home and make an omelet. However, when we opened the boxes, no leftover lobster to be found! Really disappointing, and the reason for less than a five star experience. Both desserts were very good and we brought the leftovers home.
The experience was wonderful. The host was able to accommodate to those guests that were arriving later due to traffic, we were seated right away at a round table that was not close to other dinning guests. Food came out at the same time and was not cold. I’m glad that The Firehouse Restaurant participated in the dinedowntown Sacramento program I can’t wait to do it again.
Went here for my girlfriend's birthday. I had a cake that I delivered beforehand which they were happy to store and bring out at the right time. Our server also was great- very laid back while professional. Only downside was their dessert which was pretty mild in terms of flavor.
We had the Dine Downtown deal and were expecting small portions - were we ever wrong! The food was delicious and the staff were excellent. Would definitely consider coming back to eat for lunch. The prices for dinner are very expensive. Would be great for a special occasion where money was no object.
Beautiful place. Nice menu. Great service. Food was very good but Salmon was rather tasteless. Chocolate Mousse was to die for
We were in Sacramento for a business trip and always wanted to try this restaurant. We were happy to find out they were on the Restaurant Week program so we took advantage of the food and wine pairing offer they had to offer.. It was delicious. We will definitely go back.
Dine Downtown menu had excellent choices for dinner. We especially enjoyed the New York strip and the organic chicken breast. Both entrees came with delicious sides. The wine flight was a great compliment to all the food courses. I most especially enjoyed the Cherry Pie Pinot Noir. The ambiance was cozy and pleasant. The wait staff was personable, helpful and attentive.
food was reasonable, but not fantastic. We had the $35 special. Too few wine choices below $75.00.
Birthday for my husband.
Lovely booth seating. Tables spaces far enough apart to maintain calm, quiet atmosphere.
We went for Dine Downtown and the food and service was incredible! Highly recommend for special occasions!
Always a pleasure to dine at the Firehouse. We took advantage of the Dine Downtown Sacramento special menu and it was great.
Came here to celebrate my niece’s 8th birthday. Service was great. They were attentive to our needs. The adults took advantage of the dine downtown menu and the food was amazing. Our server was able to get red sauce with my nephew’s pasta, even when it wasn’t on the menu. They also gave the kids their own desserts free of charge! And of course, a special creme brûlée for the birthday girl! Oh and their moscato was delicious! Will definitely come back for more!
We came for the Dine Downtown Event and it was amazing! It was my first time visiting the Firehouse and it was better than I imagined. We were seated in front of the fireplace and it felt so romantic. Our dinner was delicious and the wine was well paired! Cheers!
This was my 3rd visit to The Firehouse. This time, I went for Dine Downtown 2019. The service was impressive, and the food was delicious. I had the NY strip steak, and it was cooked perfectly. I asked for medium, and it pink throughout, and very juicy and flavorful. The chocolate mousse cake was a treat! It was a great finish to a very memorable meal.
