The Firehouse Restaurant - Permanently Closed

The Hope Station building, which is home to The Firehouse Restaurant, is the oldest standing firehouse in the city of Harrisburg and is the second oldest in Pennsylvania. Most of the architecture is the original design; those areas in need of repair were restored to their original splendor. Along with the brickwork, all of the original sashing, window muntins, mullions and doors were retained in the restoration.

Went online and made reservation for four. Drove all the way there, paid for parking and walked to front door to find sign saying they were closed. You should not accept reservations if the place will be closed. I'd recommend calling for reservations instead and speaking to an actual person at the restaurant.

When we arrived the hostess stand was empty then when we were greeted we ask for a table and was told if we wanted on it was upstairs with the tone that he hoped we took a booth down. The food was just fair a little over priced the only thing good about the whole evening was the history of the building being a retired firefighter

The Firehouse 5/18/19 Very disappointing, perhaps the website raised our expectations too high. Floor and table dirty; my wife had to pick some crusty foreign substance from the rim of her beer glass; even the needed a good cleaning. Beer list, but no cocktails, wines or even soft drinks listed (or offered); when asked about wine our server named four varieties from a single producer. The food: the website claim of “fresh local food” is at best suspect. The crab cake was a cold gelatinous mass and only about a third of the rib was edible as the rest was fat and gristle. To be far the steak was medium rare as requested. After dinner coffee was served column not lukewarm, but COLD. So far as our experience, Firehouse is not even a good dive bar.

To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. After many years of a nice meal when our group was in town, the recent experience will probably mean we will look elsewhere. 15 minutes to take our original drink order. Another 15 to get the drinks and order our appetizers. And then one never delivered but billed for. Our waitress was friendly but overwhelmed as the only server on the 2nd level. Our meals we ok but we've had better in the past. I don't know what's changed here but it's not for the better!

We have been eating at the fire house restaurant for the past 5 years while in town for the fire expo. This year was a very disappointing experience. There was no specials for the evening and some items were removed from the menu. 1 dinner order came out and the other 3 came out 10min later. The other 3 meals were cold and you could tell they were sitting. The restaurant was very hot as well. Overall I was very disappointed with this years experience and not sure if we will eat there again.

Overall, we really enjoyed the firehouse and will come back. For my wife’s title wave drink, there were no gummy fish. She had the salmon which was moist and juicy and just the way we like it it was perfect. However the rice that the salmon was on was crunchy. I had the ribs and shrimp and they were very good. I was used to ribs it’s just falling off the bone and even though these were tender, They did not fall off the bone. But once again we would go back. They have a great menu.

Hostess could not check us in properly and did not confirm our reservation. Draft list was not impressive and standard for a typical restaurant. Wait staff tried but was undercut by the staff who brought our food out complaining that she could not do anything right. He even showed us the slip showing she put our order in for a different table. Chicken Parmesan sauce tasted sour and the chicken tasted like it was taken directly from the freezer, the beef special was loaded with fat and they tried to compensate by adding a gross sauce which made it worse, the sides that came with the special were flavorless and dry, and the duck appetizer looked like a ball of pond dredge. The only thing we would reorder is the gumbo if we had to. We left the restaurant and went to find pizza.

Although our server was friendly and helpful, the main course took a very long time from the time I order. Our drinks, appetizer and salad were delivered in a timely manner but the entree was slow to arrive. (Over 40 minutes). It was a hamburger and it was overdone and the side wasn’t correct. The server corrected the side but the burger was dry. I doubt I’ll go back.

The service staff was very friendly, the waitress was prompt, she didn't know the answers to a question and she found out the answer promptly and efficiently. The food was great I had the seafood bisque and a salad. My date had the prime rib. Food was served hot and prepared just the way was asked. Highly recommend this restaurant.

When we arrived the table was already set up and we were immediately seated in a comfortable booth for 5. Our waitress was knowledgable as we asked about the panels lining the walls. She was very patient with our group and accommodated all our quirky questions. The food was fabulous. And Stella on top was a wish come true. As a testament we all said we would go back.

We had a reservation and still waited over an hour for food.. We had to ask for bread and water two different times while waiting.. our server didn't seem to have much knowledge of serving.. we also had to ask a few times about the booth next us.. they were overly intoxicated being so loud at 8:30pm dinner spilling drinks and brushing them onto the floor throwing their coats over the booths hitting us in the head.. If it wasn't for the fantastic dinners.. I would never go back.. I originally went after tasting the amazing soup at the great soup cook off.. The food was worth every penny but I'm not sure I would go back with the service we had.. I feel they need much better training.. the manager was nice even though we didn't ask she took money off of our check.. again.. the food was AMAZING!!

Only reason we did not give all 5 was because the appetizers took longer than we thought based on the amount of guests in the building. Maybe staff was tired from parade?

The last-minute reservation was honored. The atmosphere was open and friendly. The food was mediocre as was the service. I got the ribeye and it was cut in half by a large piece of gristle. My friend had the "Maryland Crabcakes" which would best be called "Crabcakes" as they are definitely not Maryland taste or quality. I would go back because I believe this place has potential and was maybe having an off-night.

The food was mediocre at best but wasn’t bad. The worst part is I made the reservation for my fiancé’s birthday hoping to make it a little special and it wasn’t. Employees bad mouthing each other right behind us, our server leaving early for a family emergency which is completely understandable if it weren’t for other servers bad mouthing her while gone. After a police officer came into the building, members of staff kept running around and sprinting by us but if there was some sort of emergency we should have been notified, or at least a broad explanation to why all of the commotion took place. Overall not a good birthday experience I was expecting. This was also our first time dining, we will not be back.

Restaurant lacks diversity. I was left standing at the bar for several minutes before being acknowledged by the lady behind the counter as she leaned against the counter having conversation with an already seated customer at the bar. It would have taken seconds to point me in the right direction which ultimately she did. She appeared to be a manager or possible owner. Went with two other friends and we all ordered the fire cracker shrimp as an appetizer that took well over 15 minutes to come out. Waitress was friendly and we made no fuss since these things are usually out of their control. She was apologetic for the wait. Noise level in this place is more like a rowdy bar on the second level where we sat. After leaving the restaurant I immediately had to get to a restroom. My friends suffered the same fate an hour later. Could it be we were all given a little more than just firecracker shrimp or just a coincidence? I doubt coincidence Will not visit again

This was our first time at The Firehouse. The food was excellent and the waitress did a good job. The only thing I would mention is when I was leaving the restaurant there was a little lip on the floor near the bar. I tripped over it. If my fried would not have been in front of me to grab onto I would have defintiely fallen. Otherwise it was a nice night and we will come back again.

I took my boyfriend to the Firehouse Restaurant for his birthday, and I have to say that we were not disappointed! Great service from door to table. The menu was a good size but not overwhelming. Huge portions for a great price. I had the prime rib, and he had the seafood mac both were outstanding. The drinks were also good. The only downside was parking, but that's expected in the city.
