The Finch Ratings and Reviews
Great service and modern but homey food. So delicious in every way clearly meticulous With everything in the restaurant. Everything made fresh; My girlfriend has A lot of allergies, they were extremely understanding and helpful with the menu. This is A must for anyone on A date or any kind of occasion A little pricey, so this is for A special night out.
So this is also my review on Yelp :)Where...oh where to begin!!!! From the moment I walked in the front door the entire staff made me feel like I was secretly a Michelin reviewer!!! I began with a gorgeous pinot noir from Burgundy....and seven, lavishly decadent, but simply presented courses followed. I then started a conversation with a staff member who I realized is the owner...Gabe began to tell me the lovely back story to the name of his restaurant. To anyone who wants an exceptional culinary experience, the Finch delights and thrills while making you feel like you are in the kitchen of your dreams!!!
This is a restaurant where the chef thinks about the food and the staff are both professional and welcoming. This is the second time I have been there, the first time with my husband and the second with my grown daughter. They agree with me that this is an excellent restaurant well worth returning to.
The Finch could really be a gem and live up to its Michelin rating but some urgent changes would need to be made. First the good: very friendly service, nice clean room and a menu with some standout dishes (the duck breast is particularly good). BUT the bad currently gets in the way of the enjoyable experience: first and foremost, the tinny acoustics (unlike most restaurants in the area, the room is all sleek hard surfaces) means whatever music they play reverberates off every surface. We have been twice in the last 2 weeks and tried sitting opposite ends of the restaurant. In both cases however, we could not escape their 80s-pop-playlist. Clearly someone on the staff thinks this is cute or ironic. It would be fine in bar or club. But to be subjected to tinny pop music reverberating off every surface in the midst of a Brooklyn townhouse w a Michelin rating just feels wrong — and very annoying. Jazz, classical, folk, blues, we could think of a lot of music that would suite the setting but it needs to be mellower. Aside from the noise, the other two problems are less glaring: a very overpriced wine list (beer list is good) and a too narrow selection of appetizers. Fix these things and this place will be a keeper.
Enjoyed the excellent food and great service (just the right balance of friendly & professional). It was a bit noisy in the front (where we ate), so next time we will ask to sit in the back room, which seemed to be quieter. But then, finding a quieter restaurant is much too rare in NYC.
We will definitely be back.
The Finch has absolutely delicious food, with creative ingredients and combinations (skeptical about swiss chard lasagna? You won't be after trying it here). Our service was attentive and friendly. My only objection is that the tables are placed *really* close together: not the best setup for quiet conversation.
The food and service was amazing. The waitress was very nice and provided the right amount of attention. We chose a vegetarian route and all the recommendations were fantastic. The Swiss chard lasagna and strawberry burrada dish are must haves. Great presentation as well
Lovely space, friendly service and delicious food and drink. Excellent vegetarian options but meat and seafood as well. Each dish was gorgeous to look at and the food matched the presentation; but there was nothing stuffy or pretentious about anything--just delicious. Definitely will return. Added bonus: lots of parking on the street early evening all around the restaurant!
Attentive staff and delicious food! The owner/chef greets you from the open kitchen as you walk back to your table - very nice touch!
Dishes are prepared with detail and are superb..... The Japanese yams and roasted cauliflower are among the fabulous appetizers. We ended with the squid ink tagliatelle and sea scallops paired with a wine selection that was suggested by our friendly and knowledgeable waitress....
All in all, a must!!
What a disappointing experience this was. My mom had picked The Finch for an early Mothers Day dinner based on its Michelin star rating and other great reviews. The cocktails were okay, certainly nowhere as good as many other restaurants and cocktails bars in the area. Some of the small plates were decent, though none were exceptional. My father ordered the lamb as his main and its was severely undercooked, bright pink and very obvious to all of us as the table. The waitress hardly apologized and seemed overwhelmed dealing with a customer complaint. She said she would bring a new lamb dish though all of us had finished our meals 20 minutes later with no sign of my dads entree. After he cancelled his order because he was sick of waiting , it still appeared 5 minutes later from a different waitress who was also equally ill equipped to deal with a customer compliant. Of course they did not charge us for the dish though a restaurant of this "caliber" should understand how to manage customer issues and all around the food was not deserving of a Michelin 1 star rating.
The food is outstanding. The menu changes frequently and the one you can find online may not be up to date. The chicken liver mousse entree is good but I felt the flavor didn't mix well with the vegetables. The bread with butter, honey and radish on the other hand is perfectly balanced. As for the duck, the meat is kept on the rare side (which I like) and the sauce is amazing!
Quite possibly one of the best meals I've ever eaten. The food was interesting, delicious, and refined without being pretentious and unapproachable. The staff was incredible. It felt as though we were the only table there, but the whole restaurant was filled. Extremely attentive without hovering.
We came for my son's 21st birthday dinner and it was perfect. The food was interesting and so fresh and beautifully prepared. There were great choices for vegetarians and carnivores and an excellent wine list with several moderately priced wines.
It really was a perfect dinner and I would definitely come back.
Having read the New Yorker Table for Two in my D.C. Home, I immediately reserved a table for an upcoming NYC trip to celebrate a birthday with my 3 now-new Yorker adult children and bot what a great decision! Absolutely friendliest and yet professional staff. Drinks and wine list very pleasing and the 3 appetizers were the perfect size. Our entrees from the scallops to the pork dish to the fish were perefectly seasoned and portioned. We split 3 desserts between the 6 of us and flavors were amazing! I cannot say enough about this gem of a gastronomic delight- the Michelin star in year 1 is well deserved!
I was expecting so much more. Plates were presented beautifully but the food was just so-so. Our group shared a large number of dishes and many of them were bland.
Our waiter wasn't very informed nor confident either, every other word out of his mouth was ummmmm. I expect more with a Michelin star, and that extends to the staff.
