The Fifth Grill & Terrace Ratings and Reviews
AMAZIIINNG Atmosphere! However, #1: for the price I pay, could you have the danm table ready on time? (I don't care if it's a Saturday night) #2 Drinks and the food are ordered, by the time they arrived, that's when the waitress figured NO UTENCILS ON THE TABLE! Really? Ok, no problem! We start eating and find out the friggin steak is coLd & dull!!! Strike #3 YOU'RE OUT!!
I must say, bartender Reid or Reed(sorry for the spelling) is the one who made our night given all his beverage suggestions were ON POINT!
Don't get me wrong! My girl was very happy about the night and appreciated the atmosphere of the place! BUT, there are some mistakes you can't make in that type of restaurant!
I had brought friends who had never been or even heard of the Fifth Grill (besides Easy & Fifth) and the moment we entered I was elevated (yes, enjoy the pun) to a whole new status - just for choosing the Fifth. From the doorman, to the private and historic elevator, to the beautiful terrace, to the food to the staff.......An immediate success!
Unfortunately for a restaurant that prides itself in serving a certain level of clientele, our group was less than impressed with the service. First, our server failed to properly introduce himself to our dinner party. This made our group wonder who was serving us. When it got to ordering our meals, server couldn't be less than attentive and on many times kept asking to repeat our orders. He was easily distracted. When the food came and my husband requested for a steak knife, he was told that it was not needed for cutting his steak. If your guest requested for a cutlery I think as a staff you are obliged to heed a request within means. To top it off, not once did the server ask how the food was and had to be asked to refill our beverages.
The food was unbelievably bad. I was there for the summerlicious dinner. They charge $45 per person which is not cheap by Summerlicious standard. I was there 5 years ago and food was amazing. I have heard that food there has gone downhill. I thought I will give it a chance and try it again. Omg, do not go there!!! My main course was lobster bouillabaisse and it came out to be a previously frozen crab claw sitting on a really salty gravy bed with bits of lobster no bigger than the tip of anybody's little finger.
I was so angry with the meal that I cannot write this review after all these months.
This restaurant was just spectacular, service was amazing, food was great, the outside terrace was beautiful (even on one of the hottest days of this summer!) My partner and I loved the lift to get upstairs, the door opens to a beautiful dining area. Just wonderful, a must for everyone, can't wait to go back again!
Great place to go before the theatre. Service was fast yet not rushed. Loved the converted warehouse and freight elevator ride up. Great service and very friendly staff. My food selections were delicious, my
partner enjoyed his strip loin but he would have liked some potato with it rather than than squash). Desserts both delish! Definitely good dining with interesting ambience and a lovely staff. We will definitely return
We have been to The Fifth several times and have never been disappointed. The Summerlicious menu had some excellent choices and all four of us were impressed with what we ordered. The staff is friendly, competent and well-informed--from the first person we met at the door, to the elevator operator, to our waiter. We will return!
The service was incredible. Wait staff was always alert but never intrusive. They were enthusiastic and well-informed when answering queries about contents of the food. Food was delicious portions were more than adequate. In addition to our mains, we ordered 5 sides for 3 people. The sides were flavourful and seasoned with unusual but tasty herbs & spices.
Drawbacks: too few dessert choices.
Extra bonus: there is enough space between the tables that you do not feel too crowded.
The food and overall experience was good. The whole group enjoyed their meals. My steak was a bit cold, but the food still tasted great. My only comment is about the social club. We were encouraged to stop by the social club on the way out. You come from a lovely restaurant and I was quite shocked regarding the type of crowd who was at the club. I was one of possibly 10 non-asian people in the whole club and the age group was quite young. I felt rather uncomfortable and lasted 10 minutes before I asked my friends to leave. I would have expected a bit more diverse crowd. I fully recommend the restaurant but if you are non-asian and over 30 the social club is definitely not recommended on a friday night.
The atmosphere is outstanding and unique. Steaks were delicious but overpriced (including the fact that every side costs an extra >$7). The appetizer and main course was delicious but I wouldn't recommend the Fifth Sundae - nothing special about it, again especially for $12. Overall a very interesting place for special occasions.
Loved their menu for Summerlicious this year! The roof top patio has such a great atmosphere and the ride up in the old operated elevator is a nice touch. They have the service thing down and really make you feel special when you arrive and get you seated at your table. Food was very good. Wine list is good...not one of the top lists I've seen but adequate. Then after dinner you can stay for a couple drinks in the club downstairs if that's your thing. We had a great night and will definitely come back.
This unique roof top restaurant had great ambiance both inside and out. My party included three girlfriends meeting for dinner on a Friday night. Two of us ordered the steak and one had risotto. The steak and veggies were the best I have had out at a restaurant, and not to forget the delicious lavender and lemon cheesecake. I would definitely order it again. Our pp dinner came to $100, which included a cocktail, glass of wine, salad, steak with veggies, dessert, cappuccino, taxes and tip. The service from the door man, to the hostess that greeted us, to elevator man, to our server was above and beyond, and for that reason alone I would recommend The Fifth Grill, along with the fab view of the city.
The service staff were great and the decor and building were beautiful. However the food was disappointing. On a regular basis the food is great but the Summerlicious menu was not done well. I had a lobster rouille and there was the tiniest piece of lobster on there and it was completely masked by the other ingredients. The dessert was poorly done and the foie gras appetizer had the tiniest sliver of it. They definitely did a better job when I did Summerlicious a few years ago.
I felt instantly welcomed at The Fifth. The small private elevator is rustic and romantic, charming. The seating area is intimate and heavenly. I enjoyed my anniversary dinner there. The food was all so scrumptious, the amuse was delightful! We cleaned our plates and will be coming back for sure. The service was superb, I felt very looked after.
The reception and concierge staff were great as were most of the wait staff, with the exception of one waiter.
He barely came around, never made eye-contact as he passed our table (giving us the impression he wanted nothing to do with us), once began walking away before I had finished placing my order etc.
Needless to say we did not tip him well.
He ruined what had the potential to be a much more enjoyable experience.
you enter the restaurant from a side alley off duncan below richmond street in the eastern edge of the Toronto 'entertainment district".You know you're entering something funky and just a little different when you take a ride up to the 5th grill in a small freight elevator. Service was fabulous! our waiter was attentive without being smothering! The chef provided some off-menu items like Lobster mashed potatoes- delicious! we did a mixed grill of duck, striploin and venison that was good, - grilled brussel sprouts with bacon -amazing!! The wine list was reasonable and should satisfy many tastes. pinot noir from languedoc -NON! Terrace does not = a view! If view is essential go elsewhere! Overall was very satisfied and will come back !
My wife and I have been to the Fith Grill and Terrace a couple of times and the food and service have been fantastic both times! Both times we were welcomed as soon as we arrived and were treated with excellent service the entire time. The elevator ride is an experience in itself and the elevator attendant was extremely friendly and welcoming. I have eaten at many restaurants but the steak I had the other night was the best steak I have ever had. The prices are a good based on the quality of the food and the overall experience but they do make it difficult for me to enjoy the restaurant on a regular basis. It does however make a nice treat for the occassional date night or special occassion. I would highly reccomend this restaurant!
Such a landmark Toronto spot..has the New York feel and vibe, just wished the service and food matched the experience...From the moment I sat down I knew we were in for a long night..just understaffed and so average (for a resto with a huge price tag) would not take much to get it back to its former glory..the food was actually good!
It was a cold night. Nevertheless only the patio was open. For some unexplainable reason, the main indoor restaurant was closed
We had to move closer to the bar to get comfortable and not freeze
Took over an hour after we ordered to get out meal. They gor our order wrong. Arrrghhh. Staff tried, but just a comedy of errors
This restaurant is way too expensive to allow for these types of snafus. Sorry, not going back.
Seated over looking the street and the restaurant was nice and well decorated. We had a bottle of Gemtree Tiger's Eye Shiraz. Fantastic wine. I'd like to give you a long drawn out review of fantastic food but it wasn't. The wine was the best part. Two filets that weren't cooked right. Appetizers with little or no flavour and a baked alaska with too much cognac. Now, the server was fantastic, as were the busboys and secondary servers. But the food lacked a wow factor. The baked alaska did come with a happy birthday on it and when my wife wanted some lobster with her steak they did do up a surf and turf plate for her. But, at these prices the food needed to be fantastic and it wasn't. Maybe next time...or not.
We were informed several times about there new menu. It was starting on May 9th and 10th. they advertised oysters, steak frites,
tapas. We booked our May 10th reservation under this information. when we arrived they had non of the above. We will not be returning.
Unique menu, service, presentation, and dining experience. From the initial freight elevator ride up to the roof top dining experience (indoor and outdoor available), it was a highlight of our Toronto visit. A short walk in a developing neighborhood was clearly worth this dining experience. From the chef's surprise to appetizers to entree and dessert specials...truly a wonderful experience at a great value.
We came as a group of four women, an annual night out on the town. We planned the Fifth as we could have a nice dinner, followed by bottle service and a private section in the club downstairs. When planning the evening however, my "VIP" contact at the Fifth didn't mention that it was an 80's/90's theme - once we finished dinner and got to the club, we all looked at each other and immediately all said "we can't dance to this!" and went somewhere else. Bummer. The dinner itself was delicious, however the portions were incredibly small. The location of the table was the rooftop, which I am sure is all open & beautiful in warm weather but it was enclosed in plastic and was too chilly for one of our girls.
Initially, our experience was underwhelming :( Had a 9:00pm reservation and were not seated until 10:30pm. Waited at the bar for 30 minutes before we were served. Upon being seated we were given menus and our server disappeared, not a great start to our evening... I had organized the evening for five of us, a bit embarrassed about the experience, I went to find the manager and the executive chef, Brad asked if he could assist me. I explained the situation and he immediately apologized and stepped in to rectify the situation. Thanks to him, our experience went from horrible to outstanding. Passionate and proud of his menu, he shared some of his favorites with us. Everything was exceptional - despite awful service initially would return.
