I definitely recommend eating at fat ham. From food to service the night was impeccable. Make sure you give yourself 30 mins of wait time because the restaurant is small so seating is tough at times. Also order the hot chicken for 2 people max to share, you will not regret it. Great New Years eve dinner!

restaurant had a great atmosphere. Food was pretty good but they need to lay off the salt on the chicken and hmthe Mac and cheese. It's kinda on the expensive side. Would recommend to a friend

When my wife and I sat down, the server told us we would get EVERYTHING ON THE MENU. He even went so far as to repeat it. The menu had 4 first course selections, 4 second course selections, and one desert selection. Our first thought was that we would get 1 first course, 1 second course, and desert for the price fix of $30. But we got EVERYTHING for that price. What a bargain, as everything was great. Check out the menu online. You get EVERYTHING on their Sunday Special.

Pretty much ordered one of everything for the four of us on the server's recommendation that we each get 3-4 of the small plates. We especially liked the hot chicken. Left full and extremely happy. Great food and great service.

We dined at Fat Ham several times in the past and always enjoed the experience. This time I tried the fried chicken and can honestly say it was the best I've ever eaten, sorry Mom. Only regret, I didn't try it sooner! Cornbread and shrimp and grits were excellent. Our server, Mike did a fantastic job. Continuing to explore the whiskey selections. Great meal and just plan fun at a reasonable price. Did try the sour beer, but not something I would drink and if you like it, then you can enjoy mine.

The Fat Ham was beyond my expectations. Classic southern food with a modern twist and it was delicious. Great place for a casual dinner but don't let "casual" fool you. The restaurant had a nice energy and the staff was fun, professional and provided very good service. The staff and food will have you coming back for more.

Talk about southern comfort--I returned to Fat Ham on Wednesday evening this week for a birthday dinner (2 people), and our experience was absolutely perfect. The staff was wonderful and knowledgeable--and even had a birthday card at the ready when we arrived for our reservation! The food was a modern take on your southern staples like hot chicken and blackened cat fish. And not to mention the extensive bourbon selection. I'll certainly continue to recommend this place to friends. Thank you Fat Ham!

Having lived in North Carolina, I developed a taste for southern comfort food, although it no longer fits my diet & lifestyle. Enter The Fat Ham - which took me right back to North Carolina, but with expertly prepared & flavored food that I didn't feel guilty eating. I was particularly taken by surprise by the multitude of delicious vegetable dishes on the menu. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who has a hankering for mouth-tingling southern -- you won't be disappointed.

We have been to The Fat Ham four or five times since this past summer and it has quickly become one of our favorites. Perfect balance between high quality/concept food and casual attitude - great for "date night", guys/girls night out, special occasion, or spur-of-the-minute stop in to get a few quick bites before or after a show. We have even brought our kids (9 and 11) for an early weeknight dinner and they LOVED it. All the food is addictive - guess that is the trademark of "comfort" food. Great price point as well - falls in the range of less-expensive high-end and more-expensive casual. Awesome cocktails, whiskey, and beer selection to boot. Keep up the excellent work Kevin S. and team!

Very good. There were 4 of us and we had a great time...ordered everything on the menu! Enjoyed the Hummus, the oyster Sliders, the beets, the pimento spread, the cornbread was so yummy and was the mustard green salad was refreshing and delicios...the collards though were a salty disappointment. Atmosphere is nice but a bit cramped...as a result their rule of not sitting the whole party until everyone was there made for an uncomfortable and tight wait even after we explained there was an accident on 76. We really should have been seated...overall solid food...nice small plates..

The Fat Ham provides a unique dining experience to anyone who finds this relatively small, unassuming restaurant on the outskirts of University City. My girlfriend and I went here for the Sunday Supper that they offer and had an absolutely amazing time. The decor is somewhat homey, combining a nicely decorated bar with a Southern-feeling dining area. The food is a unique, modern take on many classics--a style exemplified by the shrimp grits and hot chicken. The servers are friendly, although the service did appear a bit slow. A note on the Sunday Supper (which I highly recommend for anyone with the time to make it): the prix fixe menu provides not the options for appetizers, entrees, and desserts, but rather all the dishes that will be brought to the diners. This was quite a pleasant surprise for my date and I, as having nine dishes brought to us for only $30 a person turned a nice night into a very memorable dining experience.

Sorry, there are too many fantastic restaurants in philly to justify going to this place. We got the burgers but they were nothing special. The waitstaff was pretty nice, but things were pricy, our table wasn't ready on time, and we just didn't have a great experience. Maybe we just caught it in an off night though.

This was my third time to Fat Ham...Great southern food and it isn't all about the pig! The mustard greens salad is outstanding, as is the peanut hummus with grilled bread. Shrimp and grits is a stand out dish, aso love the blackened catfish. I am less impressed with the infamous "hot" chicken. I don't think it is THAT hot and I am not a fan of fried foods. Service is friendly, attentive and knowledgable. Oh, and the cocktails are creative. One in our party ordered a grapefruit vodka drink that came in a copper mug. Very cool.

The food was very good and the cocktails were terrific, with an exceptional brown liquor selection from which to choose. Still, the pace was way, way too fast. We went on a Thursday evening, with no event for which to rush, an made it clear that we wanted a relaxed pace if they could do so and not mess up anyone else's reservation. We then ordered seven different plates for two people, plus dessert . . . and we were done in an hour. If we had been any more rushed, I would have expected one course to be a Happy Meal. This is a very good restaurant, but at this price point and with this much buzz, they should really be able to accommodate guests who want a chance to relax and enjoy the experience.

My mother, sister and I dined here for dinner. We had reservations and I am glad we did as the restaurant is very small. We loved their concept of ordering small plates and sharing. Here is what we had. Mustard greens- delicious; skillet cornbread- to die for, a must get; oyster sliders- yummy; shrimp and grits- noteworthy; fried whitefish- scrumptious; blackened catfish- a little on the salty side but good; and the hot fish- A MUST GET soooo delicious.

I would definitely recommend The Fat Ham and I look forward to coming back again. Any one of those dishes I could eat every day.

The menu is short and sweet. I loved the way there was pork in so many of the dishes in settle ways. The cabbage was very filling and unique, I love the cracklings on top and the cheese and tomato. The collard greens were tasty. The fried chicken was super crispy, and juicy . The shrimp and grits were to die for, best dish of the night for me. Both fish dishes were made well. The cornbread was a little burned on top and mushy inside, it was the only let down. The sweet tea was a dream, I mean good. It was a small, cozy place and even though we were the last reservation 9:45 we were not rushed. Kevin Sbraga was actually there and that was cool to see. This place is solid. Great friendly attentive service, authentic southern meal.

We had a delicious meal at The Fat Ham celebrating our son's acceptance into a research position in Germany. Kevin Sbraga stopped by to check on the restaurant, and it was exciting enough just to see him there. Suddenly, he appeared at our table with extra bread for our delicious hummus. He was so friendly, and allowed us to snap a photo. The best part was that he didn't attempt to reveal his identity. He was just acting like one of the servers which we thought was amazing. He did have his "chef" gear on, but I'm betting that plenty of the diners didn't even know who he was. My husband and I are huge Top Chef fans, and we couldn't have been happier with our experience.

Sunday Supper was amazing... but fast. Wait staff was super attentive... almost too attentive that we felt like we were being rushed. Seats are limited since the space is small so maybe that's why they were quick. We were recommended an alcoholic drink but it didn't taste good (subjective) so they had no problem taking it back and not charging us. It was our anniversary and a card was waiting for us at our table which was cute but then every staff member that served us kept saying "happy birthday". No biggie. Advice for vegetarians: tell them in advance so they don't start rolling in food with ham on the mac and cheese and such! Overall good time and cute place!

I and 2 friends were delighted with Fat Ham. The ambience is chic & intimate, and the Walnut St. Bridge location adds an air of secret exclusivity. Each of us ordered two plates and were quite satisfied, as the food is suprisingly heavy for small plates. Standouts were the chicken & dumplings--rich, fatty & warming, and the fried chicken--tender with a light tangy coating, both superb noveau renditions of classic southern dishes. The wine list was impressive-- I had a delicious smoky cab, and one friend had a tasty Boulevardier cocktail. Our only caveat is the house policy of ordering all dishes at once. Being hungry upon sitting down, we wanted to order a couple dishes ASAP, but the waiter informed us of the policy, without explanation.

My wife and I are out for dinner at least twice a week and have tried scores of restaurants in Philadelphia. The Fat Ham is one of our favorite restaurants in the city when we desire a great food experience. The place is small in size but BIG on service and its ability to deliver an amazing food experience.

Prior reservations are suggested as this place is small and fills up quickly.

Chef Spraga has created a space where southern comfort food has crashed into fine dining and the outcome is not an accicident but rather a well sturctured to serve great food in an uncomplicated setting. Yes it small, but that engergetic feel is part of the ambiance that will keep you coming back.

The food we had was excellent. Disappointed that 2 items we wanted to try were out for the night (mac and cheese and oyster sliders). The restaurant is very small and we waited about 25 minutes past our reservation to be seated, but the hostess was very attentive to the delay and we were given 2 free apps by the manager for the wait. My husband and I went to The Fat Ham with my son and his girlfriend for his 23rd birthday - what a wonderful surprise. EVERYTHING on the menu was fantastic. And I do mean (just about) everything, since there were only a few items that were not tasted by our group. The small plates allowed everyone to try lots of different things that we either would not have dared to try, or wouldn't have been able to with regular portion sizes. My husband and I have eaten in dozens of great restaurants in Philly, but The Fat Ham was truly a great experience. The only disappointment - they were out of the Mac 'n Cheese, so I didn't get to try it :(. Service was lovely, too. We can't wait to get back.
