The Farmhouse - Kansas City Ratings and Reviews
We were celebrating an anniversary and I indicated so when I made the reservation.
When we sat down we were served each a glass of champagne in honor of the occasion. We shared the cheese plate as an appetizer and it was delicious. We've never had grapes that tasted ....so much like grapes! The cheese was also lovely. I ordered an entree off the menu and my husband chose one of the specials. We were both beyond satisfied with our selections. At the end of the meal our server informed us she wanted to treat us with a dessert in honor of our anniversary. We chose the rum cake, a favorite of ours. It did not disappoint.
Our food was served in a timely manner, the staff was attentive and friendly. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect dining experience.
We will be back.
I picked The Farmhouse because I'd read good things. I ordered the eggs Benedict. I would have preferred it a bit hotter but I enjoyed every bite and cleaned my plate. We were there for a biz breakfast and they gave us a secluded table & except for the sun glare it was perfect.
Made reservations for a party of 4 with many time choices available. However, when we arrived, we were seated back near the kitchen, and then service went downhill from there. Even with cocktails and bottle of wine added to the table, we still could not get the staff's attention. Though we ate on the early side - 6:30 - it took a very long time for our entrees to arrive. Just not a happy evening.
Great Saturday Brunch with dear Friends. Reservations strongly recommened. Good local sourcing of foods with great ideas/recipes. Good cocktails and good wine choices. Excellent desert choices. Good coffee service as well. Servers are great and very flexible regarding dietary needs.
Very friendly service. The bruschetta pork appetizer was extremely good. My rabbit fricassee needed more seasoning. Rabbit doesn't have much natural taste so I wish they would have used more herbs and spices. The vegetables and broth were still very fresh and tasty.
Super, duper LOUD. Food was wonderful but we couldn't have any kind of conversation which ruined all the hard work and creativity done by Chef!
One of the friends we dined with has a hearing impairment on top of it and his audio implants made the sound bouncing around the room even worse... we ate and left ....
Apologies to Chef for hurrying through our meal.
Overall, our group liked the food, but we also agreed it was a bit over-priced. A big disappointment was the fresh fruit, some was visibly over-ripe with large decaying spots, and other pieces still had bits of rind on them because they were poorly cut. Considering the proximity to the farmers market and the higher than average prices, these should not have been served.
This was our first time there. Although we had reservations and were one of the first tables to be seated for lunch we were taken to a rather dark table at the very back of the restaurant. We should have asked to be seated further up front or near a window. Our table location made the atmosphere rather unappealing.
The menu was adequate, but not a huge amount of selection. There is clearly an effort to source fresh and local foods which was a plus. Servings were actually small and one in our party had to order a second dish.
The acoustics were really bad which made it difficult to hear. In fact the waiter brought the wrong dish because he didn't hear one order correctly.
The place is cute and clearly very popular. I think we all thought our food was fresh, but just OK.
Probably wouldn't choose to go back here again. I had hoped for more.
The food is excellent and inventive, and I wish that I could have liked the experience. But it was so noisy in the space, even sitting next to my wife, I had a very difficult time hearing her. The dining space has absolutely zero soft surfaces. I was quite relieved to exit the restaurant, and walk a couple of blocks to our car, in the relative quiet of a Saturday night in the vibrant river market neighborhood.
We've eaten at the Farmhouse in other occasions and been very impressed. This time, however, we were not as impressed. We all had the salad special as a starter. The salads were a little dry and not worth $10 each. My son had the whole bass and struggled to get all of the meat from the bones. I had the same problem with the quail. It was tasty but not enough meat for the price. My husband had the hanger steak and enjoyed it. My daughter in law had the rabbit and also enjoyed that. All in all, our meal wasn't nearly as wonderful this time as previous visits.
The food and service was great. A little disorganized for checking in. Had reservations but host had us wait for 20 minutes before seating and said he couldn't find reservation even with our confirmation number. Restaurant was not real busy. Excellent beer selection. Vibrant and eclectic atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.
Waited a bit for our table to be cleared despite having a reservation, but we weren't in a rush. Food was delicious (I had biscuit & gravy and hubs had stuffed French toast). Drinks, including French press coffee, were also great. Not a bad price for farm-fresh food, either. Definitely going to go again!
This is our 4th time at the farmhouse. Our first visit right after it opened was great. Since that experience it has been nothing but bad food and bad service. One time they actually forgot my food. We called their attention to be mistake then they slapped something on a plate that was obviously slightly warmed up and serviced it to me. I believe that all restraunts have off nights, but we've had 3 really bad experiences in a row. We will not be going back. Even I though they offer us a free meal. No thank you.
