The Farmhouse Ratings and Reviews
Made reservation and were told (when we arrived on time) that the reservation must have slipped thru and our table was given to someone else. Sat in the freezing cold entry and waited 40 minutes to be seated. While we were in the entry, we saw at least 5 groups leave. When finally seated, there were 4 open tables. Took 10 minutes to take our drink orders which, to their credit, they comp-ed. Wife and daughter’s dinners were good, not great and I’ve had better burgers from the frozen food section at Lowblaws. We’ve come to the Farmhouse on 5 occasions. 2 really good meals and 3 bad. Guess 3 strikes and you’re out.
Terribly disappointed. Went for Thanksgiving but ordered off the menu. My son's ribs were good but all our steaks were under cooked. My medium rare tenderloin was raw. I sent mine back and I hate doing that as you have to wait while others eat but I couldn't eat it the way it was. Came back charred on outside. There seemed to be lots of wait staff standing around but our waiter was also the bartender. Had to ask for a second beer twice. Waited forever for our dessert and had to remind them to get it. Menu has great potential but execution was terrible. $300 dinner that was all around a disappointment. It's a shame because it's a good location.
There are many other restaurants at the same price point that I would choose before returning to the Farmhouse. The ambience was that of a middle of the road casual family restaurant with plastic water glasses and condiments served in prepackaged plastic containers. Nothing impressed us here.
Our food and service was excellent. The only issue was the noise level. We couldn't hear ourselves speak as there was a very large party behind us. We've had lunch outside numerous times in the nice weather, but I think in the future we will go somewhere quieter for dinner. It's just the acoustics / design of the building, not a bad review for the restaurant. Thank you.
We were hoping to sit outdoors on the upper patio, but when we arrived we found out that only tables of 2 can sit upstairs, and it was also quite windy and the sun was quite direct up there so we were happy to sit on the downstairs patio. Not much of a view and not the cleanest/tidiest, and quite close to the loud traffic on the street, but still pleasant.
I appreciated the server's suggestion of a "lettuce bun" for the sandwich I was interested in - quite enjoyed it. The salad was served in a mason jar which was cute.
Prices were a little higher than we expected, but the food was interesting and tasty. There are quite a few steps up & down between the front entrance and the patio, and the washrooms are down a long steep set of stairs so no good for anyone who would have difficulty with that.
It's always nice to go to the farm house for special occasions or casual dinner outs with friends and family. High food quality, frendly staffs and great location! Never get disappointed with food or services and always leave the restaurant with happy smile!
Strongly recommend for your next lunch or dinner out and also their brunch is very tasty as well and I think their rib steak is the best steak that I have ever tried in my life!! Can't wait till go in next time!
after requesting a table for 3 on the upper deck so we could see the water, we were told they couldnt sit 3 people up there at one table so we had to sit in the lower patio which was loud and unattractive.
The Chicken salad I order along with one of my guests was substandard for the price of $17.00
The lettuce was iceberg lettuce that is poor quality for the price and hardly any additional toppings.
The server was nice enough but she was not readily available and we sat for 30 minutes waiting for her to come back to take our dessert order.
Our first time there and we will not be back. Very very poor.
We were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant because of some mixed reviews online. The place is an old renovated farmhouse and it has some wear and tear but is very comfortable. My husband ordered the ribs and they were nothing special. Disappointed that they hadn't been cooked with any seasoning/sauce and it was just poured on over top. They were meaty and not tough but not fall of the bone tender either. The fries, however, were outstanding. Done to crispy perfection and made fresh with potatoes fresh from the farm they were super tasty. I had the fish as recommended by the waitress and it was very good. Mild seasoning and cooked perfectly. You get two sides with every dish so I chose their version of a caesar salad as one option and the dressing was excellent but it was served in a small jam jar which had obviously been made before hand so the lettuce was a bit wilted. We both ordered the fresh grilled vegetables which really weren't seasoned with anything special but were fresh so the taste was still very good. It's not a big menu but we enjoyed it and will definitely go back when back in Barrie again.
Dismal. Poor service - waited for simple drinks, waited over 30 minutes for cold food - and not salads that were intended to be cold. Ribs were dry - cooked several days before being served? - and were accompanied by cold, flavorless mashed potatoes and brown apple slaw. The raw veggies and dip side for my daughter were wilted. The fish burnt. The restaurant is in a nice location and could be cute but the tables are not well laid out, it was very cold in the dining room and loud. It was near empty when we arrived and did get busy but still the wait for that food was too much. Nothing farmhouse fresh here.
I am on a strict paleo diet and when I explained this to my server he quickly suggested some options for me that he thought might work and he was more than happy to pass on my special requests to the chefs (ex: no butter used to cook my steak) he was accommodating, friendly and the food was amazing!
The food was not good. Both my wife had very upset bellies the next morning... I'll spare you the details. For a place that claims to have "farm fresh comfort food", we had crappy mushy fries, bland dry mac and cheese, and an average at best burger. Not to mention the results the next morning. Can't see it surviving on food that bad.
We found the overall experience fair to poor. Our food order was not correct which is disturbing given the number of food allergies our group must have accommodated. The atmosphere has great potential to be fantastic, however we found it dirty, noisy and had the impression from out waitresses they did not care for contributing to a great dining experience.
I must admit, I went in with high expectations because the good reviews I'd heard of the resaurant outweighed the bad.
We participated in Barrielicious and the appetizer was tastey but I wasn't a big fan of the chips for the dip being chewy instead of that chip crunch and the pita bread that looked like I got all the random pieces left over after the triangles that get cut for other dishes.. the flavor was there but the presentation I felt was lacking. Although when I looked around at the other appetizers people around me had, it all looked great! The mussels especially!
The main I went basic and got the beef dip (the description sold me) I was so excited for that horseradish mayo and the crispy onions.. unfortunately when it came my bottom bun was already soaked through and soggy so it made it quite an experience for someone that likes to pick up the sandwich with my hands and give that hand dunk in the jus.. it's part of the experience! I had hoped to taste more of the horseradish but as a whole the flavor was good.
The dessert I chose was the right portion size for the richness that went with it and the combination with the ice cream was great.
Great spot! Although parking was a time and half but I'm sure it's been mentioned before. It'll all improve once that construction is done I'm sure.
I am glad that I tried out farmhouse but that experience doesn't have me rushing to come back for round 2.. but I will be back to try again someday!
Barrielicous menu could have had a bit more variety ( without surcharge) and with 2 sides ....potatoes or rice and a vegetable . Increase cost by a bit ($30?) Too restrictive... no rice or mashed potatoe options. May try again another time to see how food is at regular prices.
Food didn't have any flavour, I had the burger/ fries my husband had pork tenderloin and we both were disappointed. The bruschetta toast was cold and soggy. Surprised to see the condiments served in plastic containers.
Knowing the owner previously had Oscars which we LOVED, we were both very disappointed in poor quality of this roadhouse food.
