The Farmhouse Ratings and Reviews
Honestly, it's decent pub fare, without any frills. Ribs had gobs of overly acidic sauce poured on them but not cooked in. Chicken avocado club was not really a club--in a cotonny raw sesame bun, not toasted, and not multilayered. Potato skins could have used some sour cream. Best thing was the mac and cheese.
I have not been to the Farmhouse in a few years but remember it as preparing wonderful meals. I decided to go out Christmas day instead of cooking. It was very disappointing. The salad was made with a bitter green (arugula?) as the only green which may suit some but was not pleasant for me. The mashed potatoes were pasty, the turkey was mainly dark meat and loaded in a gravy which I did not like. There were a small amount of vegetables that were glazed and tasted more of glaze than veggie. They had said on the phone that the dessert was apple pie but it was pumpkin pie and tasted store bought. I enjoyed the soup and cranberry dressing (and the service). My friends tell me they make a wonderful breakfast. Maybe I will try it. It would be hard to pull me back there for supper.
I love the farmhouse for the most part
Was really disappointed that there was only 1 choice for Xmas dinner. No apps no mains no desserts just what they picked as a standard meal. The portions were rather tiny.
Other years the entire menu was available.
I actually confirmed while menu availability before making my reservation
I wish I was informed prior to being seated.
The Christmas dinner was over priced. You should have had a choice of garlic mashed or plain. I don't care for garlic mashed. Food was served on cold plates so your dinner was cold when you received it. The parking lot and walk way we're not plowed or shovelled. It made it difficult for elder people to get to the door. It was also cold with the ceiling fans going.
The restaurant was busy, I’ll give them that much, but it didn’t seem like anything was working out that evening.
It started with being seated at the bar while we waited for our table and it taking ten minutes for a bartender to even acknowledge us/take our drink orders. Shortly afterwards our table was ready and instead of asking if we wanted to transfer the drink to our table bill we were asked to settle up the 9 dollar tab.
We were seated at the table without menus for about 15 minutes. Once the server realized this it was quickly fixed and our food ordered and our apetizer came out in good time. It then took over an hour for our server to notice that our mains had not been brought to our table. The kitchen lost our chit and it took a total of an hour and a half to get our main course and then when we did get it they had run out of the sides we ordered so we had to wait to get our replacement sides.
During this wait we saw tables sending back their entrees multiple times because meals were coming out cold or not cooked properly.
The manager found us after we paid our bill to tell us that he wanted to give us complimentary desserts and a percentage off our bill. The gesture was nice, albeit late.
All in all we were so let down we couldn’t even enjoy our food (which was pretty good).
Not sure if we will be back despite the offer of a discounted meal for our next visit.
My friend and I had a pleasant lunch at the Farmhouse. The service was attentive and yet they allowed us to converse uninterrupted. I had the Beef Dip sandwich. I wasn't fond of the taste of the beef nor the dip, but the french fries and caesar salad were both excellent and my friend enjoyed all of her lunch. The atmosphere was so much nicer than your run-of-the-mill chain restaurant.
Made reservation and were told (when we arrived on time) that the reservation must have slipped thru and our table was given to someone else. Sat in the freezing cold entry and waited 40 minutes to be seated. While we were in the entry, we saw at least 5 groups leave. When finally seated, there were 4 open tables. Took 10 minutes to take our drink orders which, to their credit, they comp-ed. Wife and daughter’s dinners were good, not great and I’ve had better burgers from the frozen food section at Lowblaws. We’ve come to the Farmhouse on 5 occasions. 2 really good meals and 3 bad. Guess 3 strikes and you’re out.
Terribly disappointed. Went for Thanksgiving but ordered off the menu. My son's ribs were good but all our steaks were under cooked. My medium rare tenderloin was raw. I sent mine back and I hate doing that as you have to wait while others eat but I couldn't eat it the way it was. Came back charred on outside. There seemed to be lots of wait staff standing around but our waiter was also the bartender. Had to ask for a second beer twice. Waited forever for our dessert and had to remind them to get it. Menu has great potential but execution was terrible. $300 dinner that was all around a disappointment. It's a shame because it's a good location.
There are many other restaurants at the same price point that I would choose before returning to the Farmhouse. The ambience was that of a middle of the road casual family restaurant with plastic water glasses and condiments served in prepackaged plastic containers. Nothing impressed us here.
Our food and service was excellent. The only issue was the noise level. We couldn't hear ourselves speak as there was a very large party behind us. We've had lunch outside numerous times in the nice weather, but I think in the future we will go somewhere quieter for dinner. It's just the acoustics / design of the building, not a bad review for the restaurant. Thank you.
We were hoping to sit outdoors on the upper patio, but when we arrived we found out that only tables of 2 can sit upstairs, and it was also quite windy and the sun was quite direct up there so we were happy to sit on the downstairs patio. Not much of a view and not the cleanest/tidiest, and quite close to the loud traffic on the street, but still pleasant.
I appreciated the server's suggestion of a "lettuce bun" for the sandwich I was interested in - quite enjoyed it. The salad was served in a mason jar which was cute.
Prices were a little higher than we expected, but the food was interesting and tasty. There are quite a few steps up & down between the front entrance and the patio, and the washrooms are down a long steep set of stairs so no good for anyone who would have difficulty with that.
It's always nice to go to the farm house for special occasions or casual dinner outs with friends and family. High food quality, frendly staffs and great location! Never get disappointed with food or services and always leave the restaurant with happy smile!
Strongly recommend for your next lunch or dinner out and also their brunch is very tasty as well and I think their rib steak is the best steak that I have ever tried in my life!! Can't wait till go in next time!
after requesting a table for 3 on the upper deck so we could see the water, we were told they couldnt sit 3 people up there at one table so we had to sit in the lower patio which was loud and unattractive.
The Chicken salad I order along with one of my guests was substandard for the price of $17.00
The lettuce was iceberg lettuce that is poor quality for the price and hardly any additional toppings.
The server was nice enough but she was not readily available and we sat for 30 minutes waiting for her to come back to take our dessert order.
Our first time there and we will not be back. Very very poor.
We were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant because of some mixed reviews online. The place is an old renovated farmhouse and it has some wear and tear but is very comfortable. My husband ordered the ribs and they were nothing special. Disappointed that they hadn't been cooked with any seasoning/sauce and it was just poured on over top. They were meaty and not tough but not fall of the bone tender either. The fries, however, were outstanding. Done to crispy perfection and made fresh with potatoes fresh from the farm they were super tasty. I had the fish as recommended by the waitress and it was very good. Mild seasoning and cooked perfectly. You get two sides with every dish so I chose their version of a caesar salad as one option and the dressing was excellent but it was served in a small jam jar which had obviously been made before hand so the lettuce was a bit wilted. We both ordered the fresh grilled vegetables which really weren't seasoned with anything special but were fresh so the taste was still very good. It's not a big menu but we enjoyed it and will definitely go back when back in Barrie again.
