The Farmhouse at The Grand Colonial
The buffet was overpriced very average ordinary food.
Is the heat not working?
German week- no sauerkraut?,no spaezle?only Black Forrest Cake?which was very good! no other German desserts? ....AND NO GERMAN BEER ?!?!?!? REALLY 1
I've eaten here before and had a good meals, but was not impressed with this one. They do special buffets and this past week was German food. Seemed like a good idea to sample a selection of foods. There was plenty to choose from and did sample most of them, but disappointed when we started to eat as they lacked flavoring. Saurbraten without vinegar, Wienerschnitzel made from pork hammered so thin it was too tough to cut. Was glad I missed Southern buffet previous week as I would have been even more disappointed with no spices. Service was very good, décor well done but a draft in the room was a bit uncomfortable. I would give them another chance, assuming it was a bad night for the chef.
I was first at the Farmhouse for a baby shower. I found the restaurant lovely and charming. The host of the shower paid for us to partake in the Sunday brunch which was very enjoyable.
Because of the updated, colonial charm, I thought this would be the perfect place to enjoy Thanksgiving. I did not realize we were going to dine in the ballroom. It was not the atmosphere I had hoped for. Plus, they had the room lit very brightly which affected the dining atmosphere.
We had to wait almost 40 minutes following our reservation time to be seated. After 35 minutes, I asked the hostess if she had any idea of how much longer the wait would be. Her answer was, "I have no idea. As soon as the next table of 4 leaves." I thought that was "an unusual" response for a hostess and decided to take a quick peak in the dining room. That is when I saw that we would be sitting in the ballroom and that there were 2 empty tables of 4. We ended up being seated 2 minutes afterwards.
The waiter was nice enough but appeared really busy. We did have a drink at the bar before dinner that was enjoyable despite the bartender being somewhat aloof.
My brother-in-law and I thoroughly enjoyed the extended raw bar that was part of the buffet. Very nice! Even though we did not have the latest reservation available, the stuffing, mashed potato chafing dishes were empty and there was only one piece of pumpkin pie left.
I hope you know that this is just constructive criticism so you can make adjustments. I am a frequent diner of fine restaurants. I am not a complaining type but wanted you to know so you can make improvements to your lovely establishment.
Thanksgiving Dinner- Hostess did not greet us and I had to get in her face to be recognized. After a reasonable wait, we were led into the ballroom where the noise level was high and unacceptable, the lighting was on high, also unacceptable. It was like a bad wedding reception. However, the food and service redeemed the dinner for us. As our seating was at 4PM, many tables were leaving so the noise level calmed down. Although it was late, the food dishes were replenished readily. If something was out a waitress went to get a replacement and actually brought it to our table. I'm glad we did not got earlier. I would not recommend this for a dinner where so many people are seated in the ballroom. You need to assess the noise and lighting.
Management was almost nonexistent, very understaffed which contributed to poor service. The place has tremendous potential, but needs an overhaul from top to bottom. I was a Real Estate Developer and also had ownership in three restaurants. If I didn't insist on waiting almost 30 min. at the bar to pay my bill my party of six could have walked out (without paying) . I assume the owner is using it as a tax write- off.
( waiters and waitresses did their best, but again they were overwhelmed)
I went for a Thanksgiving Day Buffet. The variety of food was outstanding and the waiters , waitresses and expiditers, as well as the bartender were exceptional. I have been there before and will certainly go again !
Five members of my family were at the restaurant for the Thanksgiving buffet. The food was excellent with wonderful variety. The seating setup was disappointing. We could barely fit around our table and people had to push by us to get to their tables. Being a buffet with many courses, this occurred often.
My family enjoyed the Thanksgiving buffet tremendously. The food was delicious and such a variety offered that everyone found their favorites. The buffet seating was very organized, there was plenty of space in the dining room and buffet areas. We will plan to have our extended family join us next year!!
Enjoyed being seated in private room. Mediterranean buffet was very good.
The food was delicious for the Taste of the Mediterranean and the price was right. It was an incredible experience as the food selection and quality was exceptional. Highly recommended.
Went with friends to try out the buffet on a Saturday night as they attempt to "re-invent" themselves...Sad is the only word we all seemed to agree on. Service was great...but even our server who has been there a long time seemed sad. At the $30 the buffet is not cheap but the food sure was...only the ribs were well reviewed by everyone at the table. Sushi? Not really...dry sad rolls and some poor grade tuna...sad. Asian food?....kind of...but not really. Figure the next step here is a closure. How they went from Farm to Table to this is beyond me....think it the location. Probably should just stick to events only. Sad
I usually love this restaurant. Sadly, during the holiday months they switch to a themed Buffett menu “to accommodate the frequent holiday events”. I was not aware of this when I booked my reservation. They are a restaurant AND A BANQUET HALL!! One would think they can handle both??? When we pulled up the parking lot was COMPLETELY EMPTY, at 6 pm on a Friday evening! My husband and I actually questioned if they were open. We now know why the lot was empty. The food was terrible!! I will give them another try because I have had excellent food there in the past, but this was terrible and sad. I felt bad for the staff, this is a sure way to put the place out of business!
We had their special Asian buffet which is going on for the month of November with different weekly specials. It was excellent, especially for a buffet, and service was outstanding. We will be back to try another of the specials this month if at all possible.
Intimate dining. Cocktails are great!
Seasonal cooking the best!
Enjoyed our meal with good friends. Service was great!
We went on a Saturday evening, busy but quiet. Service was great, drinks generous, Food is very good. What's nice is they have small plate items which was plenty for me and it keeps the cost down.
Overall is was a great dinner with friends, Will go again
Food was good. Calamari was terrific and flat iron steak and noodle bowl were very good but snapper was dry according to my husband. We like the coziness and the tables in corners and the ambiance. I enjoy going there. Service people are very nice and friendly - makes for a pleasant night out.
We went for lunch with friends and we had a wonderful meal and a great server.
Food was very good
Friendly and attentive staff and beautiful location. I just thought the food would be better for the price.
Ridiculously poor service, food, everything.
Only redeeming issue was the bartender.
Consistently excellent dining. The red snapper entree with bok choy was delicious. Though the beet salad was a bit sparse on beets it was still good - need to either add more beets or change its name. Would still definitely recommend the Farmhouse.
Food and service was outstanding! There were so many delicious options on the menu it was hard to choose!
Service was great! The wait staff was very knowledgeable about the menu and able to answer questions and make recommendations! Even the hummus and vegetables they provide for the table was fresh and delicious! We'll definitely be back!
Was there Saturday night ordered Short Ribs and Red Snapper. Both dishes were horribly cooked the fish was like rubber the short ribs like leather. Notified the waiter he spoke to manager and manager sent a plate of cookies over with the waiter. Terrible value. On the plus side the setting and inside very nice.
Loud music with horrible singer. Food not great. Very expensive and not what I expected. Very disappointing.
Great brunch! Huge selection and the food was delicious!! Great value!
Enjoyable evening that has usually been outstanding, but this evening was just good! Still worth a trip.
The restaurant is delightful. The patio sheltered from the evening sun makes for a good ambiance. Staff are genuinely helpful and youthful. That sometimes shows through in less experience.
Something has changed, maybe Christine had to take some time off! The service was barely attentive. Kudos to the teenager with the water jug we saw him a lot. We were not aware of the presence of a Maitre'D or similar. You have to wonder when you are ready to go to the bar yourself for a drink. The young man waiting tables around us was very attentive, but our young lady must have been on frequent breaks!
Food was good, but lacked the usual sparkle to the menu and to finish. That's a problem when all other previous visits have been outstanding.
The deep fryer must have been on high tonight. Overcooked PuPu platter (with no fire in the pot and no wait staff to relight it we gave up). And a very deep fried snapper. Sometimes it is the attention to detail like no space to put shrimp tails or the bones from the Snapper makes for a very messy table.
So we will see what happens next time. Maybe back to outstanding.
Went to The Farmhouse for my daughters birthday. Portions were huge, food was delicious and waitress was very attentive. Lunch was not rushed and they were very accomadating for a three year old.
Sat outside beautiful weather
Music was also very nice
The food was very fresh and excellent. We had pulled pork sliders (they had a unique and tasty bbq sauce), salmon (on a bed of fresh greens) and a brownie sundae that was huge. The staff was very personable and made the night even better. We hope to get back to try their other options!
It was a sad day, but the lunch put everyone in a better frame of mind. Thank you!
I thought overall the experience was good. The food was a bit salty and inconsistent. I had the pasta which was delicious. The Mac and cheese was almost inedible from salt as was the red snapper. The calamari was delicious.
The food was excellent, and attractively presented. The service was very friendly but very slow.
We enjoyed our brunch on Father's Day, but was disappointed in the temperature of the meats, which were cold. Also had coffee and that was cold also; otherwise everything on the menu was outstanding. However, this can happen and will not deter us from having a "wonderful" meal again at THE FARMHOUSE.
I am pleased to say our dining experience at The Farmhouse did not disappoint. We were celebrating my daughter’s graduation and were in the Wine Room. What a great place for a small party! Also, we had a fantastic server named Austin. He made us laugh and was attentive to our needs. The food was excellent and we will be back! Thank you.
Food was just okay. We both ordered Benedicts and the eggs were solid and overcooked making the rest of the dish too dry.
Consistent quality cocktails, food and service. Nice ambience in a historic setting. Would definitely recommend.
