Owners Josh & Colleen Lawler offers guests a casual, yet fine dining experience. The Farm and Fisherman creates its dishes using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. A roasted cauliflower salad or grilled Spanish mackerel are tasty starters. Guests can dine on Gulf shrimp pasta, pheasant breast with cheese spaetzle and hubbard squash or smoked sturgeon.
The Farm and Fisherman allows guests to bring their favorite bottle of wine or other beverage to pair with meals. It also welcomes reservations.

My husband and I were fortunate to dine at the Philadelphia Farm and Fisherman before it shut it's doors. The restaurant's intimate setting and the well thought out seasonal menu contributed to a marvelous dining experience. We wait with anticipation for the next Josh Lawler small restaurant creation. This chef truly has a gift.
From being greeted at the door, to my final cup of coffee, F&F byob was always great. Besides being committed to buying fresh and local, the menu has perfectly executed dishes. The noise level--unlike almost everywhere you may go--is acceptable: you may have a conversation with your guests normally, and you really can't intrude on others' conversations. I can't say enough about F&F byob.
So glad I was able to eat at The Farm and Fisherman before it closes! I took my boyfriend there for his birthday last night and it was by far our favorite farm to table restaurant in Philly.
We shared the Bloody Beet Steak for starters - very flavorful and juicy! Just a heads up this is a beet and not an actual steak :)
I got the asparagus risotto for a second course which was super rich and creamy. Then I had the chicken for my main course. The meat was super fresh and moist but I wasn't loving the cheese spätzle that it was prepared with.
We had 5 total dishes for only $100 which I think is a tremendous value for the high quality and size of the meals. And it's a BYOB so you can save money on booze!
We dined here on a Saturday evening at 5 before orchestra. We were first in, but the place quickly filled over the next hour and we can understand why. Everything was fresh, seasonal, and a visual and culinary delight. Spring soup, asparagus risotto and fresh Pollock in a lobster sauce. The homemade warm Parkerhouse rolls served as our dessert. The service was attentive, good natured, and welcoming. Was our first time here and we will surely return.
We loved this cozy little restaurant with great service and delicious dishes. We ordered two fish dishes as mains which were absolutely fantastic. They did take a while to come out, but that was no big deal since the atmosphere was so nice. I'd go back again the next time I'm in Philadelphia!
Truly fantastic. The menu is small and simple, with clear influences from whatever produce looked good to the chef...Ramps and asparagus made a solid appearance during my visit. Dining alone, I found that the portions were just right to ALMOST get through all 3 courses...and then I willed myself to make room for the cheese finale. Don't regret for a minute, even though I was super sad to see my unfinished chicken entree walk alway. (Hotel life: Full of small tragedies.)

This is among the best, if not THE best, BYO in the center city Philly area - probably only rivaled by WednesdayBYO night at Southwark. The food is consistently impressive, the service is low key but attentive, friendly and effective. Small and cozy space - not noisy. Regarding the food: tasty, but never over salted, served beautifully, everything ranging from really, really good to off-the chart food chemistry. The 'bloody beet steak' is a must have for the first course - it is the one thing that they never rotate off the menu. You'll need to bring a selection of wines in case they change the menu up - a medium (Pinot/Burgundy/Rioja) and a big red (Cab/CNDP) and a white or blush in case anyone goes for the fish or shellfish (so much wine.....oh darn). Even the desserts are not cloying - an oddity for Philly restaurants, most of which cater to an 8-year-old's palate in the dessert department. Mr. Rick's sole uh-oh is that there's no espresso machine, but the coffee is strong and good.
Sadly, they're closing their doors after May 2016 (say it ain't so!); we advise trying it at least once before then!

considering dinner for two at a BYOB was $125 I would have expected a more pleasant dinner experience. the tables are ridiculously close to one another - absolutely no private conversations happening here. It was actually awkward for us and our dining neighbors. While we enjoy all types of music, Jimi Hendrix is not my ideal of dinner music. We were using a gift certificate and were told that the tip could not be taken out of the certificate amount and that the $10 balance on our gift certificate could be used on a future visit. YOU ARE CLOSING IN MAY! not much time to use the balance. While food was delicious there are too many other great restaurants in Philly with nicer atmosphere and better customer service.
We chose Farm and Fisherman for our monthly Sunday Supper outing. The food was extraordinary; this is easily one of the best experiences we've had. Although the menu is short, each dish is prepared and presented beautifully. In addition to good food, the service was pleasant and professional, the setting was cozy without being noisy.
Hostess and waitstaff were very professional. Appetizers were great (risotto and a beet salad).
The rest of the meal was good, not great. The pappardelle serving was incredibly small, and it was a bit noisy. Just meh.
* side note - why is there not a rating for "noisy" ?- the term "energetic" does not equate to "way too loud"
The staff here did an incredible job paying close attention to my dietary restrictions and accommodating me - while still serving a delicious meal. I arrived with several restrictions on what I could eat (no dairy, no gluten, no added sugar, and more - largely a paleo diet) and noted this in my reservation. My waitress noted this and brought it up with me before I even had to say a word. She was attentive in listening to what I could and couldn't have, discussed it with the chef and told me exactly what they could do to make the dishes work. When I had questions, they were answered with grace and detail. And the food was excellent. (I only wished I could have enjoyed some wine with my meal - but that wasn't in my program). Truly great service and attention.
We had a fantastic meal at Farm and Fisherman this past Sunday. We had the smoked mushroom salad and spring fettuccine as appetizers. My husband had the lamb for his entree and I had the stripped bass. Everything was delicious and beautiful. It is a real shame that it will be closing.
My father has been interested in going to this restaurant for years. (Almost 4 years to be exact). I saw that they had reservations available for Easter and jumped at the chance. This restaurant did not disappoint at all. The restaurant is small and intimate inside. The staff was lovely and very helpful when we had questions. The food was EXCELLENT. The menu is small, but it changes daily which is an added bonus. BYOB. You will not be disappointed.
Our meal was perfect in every way. The room was pretty and quiet. The service was friendly, professional and unobtrusive. The menu was inviting with something pleasing for every palate. It was no ordinary meal - the beet steak salad with yogurt was something to behold and delicious. We savored every bite of the risotto and the fettuccine was spectacular. The sea bass was thoroughly enjoyed by two of us including one non fish lover! The lamb loin was delectable - not at all gamey. Might be the best lamb I ever had. The service was top notch with plates cleared and cutlery changed between courses as it should be in a fine restaurant. The BYOB was great in that they were very attentive to refilling your wine in the beautiful wine glasses they set. The date/toffee pudding was wonderful for dessert. I can't wait to go back.
The food was excellent! My girlfriend and I dined here to celebrate her birthday.
The food we ordered (in order of most preferred to least preferred):
• Smoked Mushroom Salad - amazing dish, highly suggest anyone ordering it.
• Hamachi Crudo - great balance of flavors
• “Black & Tan” Risotto - Love it, wanted to eat more
• Atlantic Black Bass - clams were overcooked, but the flavors blended well together
• Savoie Farm Poached Egg - was pretty salty and I wanted the flavors to collaborate better
The downside to this restaurant is that it is quite small (seats 32) therefore all the tables are uncomforatably close to each other. Yes, I'm familiar with dining in NYC & Philly, but it was especially difficult to have a conversation without your neighbors hearing everything.
Since the tables are so close to each other already, they should consider modifying this restaurant to be family style seating and loosening up the vibe a little bit.
The service was excellent, but our preference is to not have all the "pomp and circumstance" that comes with a restaurant like this, making it feel a little stuffy.
With only a month left in their 5 year life here, you might want to get there before they close. Good honest treatment of food. Some of the best uses for Venison, Lamb, beets and fish I have seen in a while. But be smart, unlike me, BYOB.
A big Lucy created UGG as Charlie Brown tries to kick the football, much like myself for now finding this place a month or so before they close and move to who knows where.
My husband and I had a great meal. We were a little hesitant at first because the food was so eclectic. But our waitress was wonderful. She explained everything on the menu. The food was delicious. We both started with the carrot salad. My husband doesn't even like carrots and he loved this dish. He had the red snapper as his entrée and I had the turkey. We both loved our meals. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
I could write about how this is my favorite restaurant in the city, about how the consistently superb food keeps changing and evolving so that there is no danger of ever being bored no matter how often you visit, about the knowledgeable and caring service, about the attentiveness and presence of the owners, but I fear that would merely make it that much more difficult for me to obtain a reservation during the few remaining weeks before they close their Pine Street location.
