About The Factory Kitchen

The Factory Kitchen is the first concept from the FactoryPlaceHospitalityGroup that opened to high acclaim in 2013.
Helmed by Restaurateur Matteo Ferdinandi, his wife Beverage Director Francine Diamond-Ferdinandi and their longtime friend and Partner Executive Chef Angelo Auriana, the Factory Kitchen re-defined the approach and the experience to casual dining in the city by combining elements of culinary arts, service, and design.
A traditional Italian Restaurant & Bar in the heart of the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles, the Factory Kitchen culinary concept focuses on local recipes from the Northern Italian Regions; but emphasizes on some Ligurian traditional dishes like Mandilli di Seta al Pesto alla Genovese and the Focaccina Calda al Formaggio di Recco.

Overpriced, over rated, terrible service and very rushed. If you want the feel that you're on a factory conveyor belt being whisked along as quickly as possible then this is the place for you! Otherwise, avoid at all costs. An absolutely horrible experience.

We had a nice evening. We had two apps, the pesto pasta dish, two fish and the cioppino between four people. Everything was delicious especially the homemade pasta. Our waitress was patient when we weren’t ready to order and gave helpful suggestions. It was 300 dollars pre tip. We didn’t have dessert. We did have four mixed drinks, I liked the mud shark, and four glasses of wine. The tables were very close together and it is a little on the noisy side. We would definitely go back.

Our little family of 3 enjoyed the meal tremendously. 4/6 were perfection (insalata, fritters, mantilini, lamb ragu/buckwheat pasta) , 2 were good but not memorable (prosciutto, zuppa di mare)....wine list excellent and affordable, and their Pinot by the glass (albeit from CA) was great. Service overall great, except it took 3 attempts to get bread to sop up the broth from the soup...the only glitch all night. The Maitre'D, very charming and attentive.

While not exactly in the best part of town (we drove past blocks of tents with homeless occupants), the atmosphere inside is a surprise from what surrounds it outside. The first thing that stands out as exemplary is the service. Wait staff are attentive and professional. This was my first time to LA. While the food was superb, the portion sizes were small and the prices were high. Eating here was based on a recommendation from others.

The dinning was perfect. The food incredible. But when I ordered dessert to end the evening a bit of disappointment. Recommended tiramisu. The tiramisu was in fact lost. I felt like it was trying to find its own identy. But could not find its identity. It could not identify between a lava cake and tiramisu. I always believe in simplicity. One or the other. Beyond that I highly recommend this establishment.

Had a great dinner. Had a hard time deciding on what to eat, it all sounded so good. Ended up order four different dishes and sharing with my wife. We will definitely be going back.

Our favorite thing to do at The Factory Kitchen is to watch friends, new to the place, take their first bite of the superb Handkerchief Pasta. We wait and watch them go crazy with joy -- tumbling over themselves reaching for culinary superlatives. Many times we order it right away again. What a dish. What a restaurant. How lucky we feel that it's right here in Los Angeles.

The food was very good and we all really enjoyed it. However, I was pretty shocked by our waitress's lack of appropriate concern around one of our party member's nut allergy. When we ordered, we asked the waitress which dishes had nuts. The waitress told us that one pasta dish had almonds, and the other 2 had pistachios. My friend said that she would avoid the one with almonds because she is allergic to almonds and hazelnuts, but pistachios would be fine.

Our dishes were brought out and my friend already had several pastas on her plate when the waitress came over several minutes after the food came out and pointed out that one of them had hazelnuts. Luckily, my friend had not taken a bite of it yet, but it was a very close call. I would have expected our waitress to come over to the table BEFORE the food came out to tell us she had misspoke about which nuts were in each dish.

One of my favorites for the highest quality pasta. The only minor gripe is I much prefer noodle style pastas rather than pieces; like farfalli or papardelle. But the quality of the pasta and the sauces were splendid. Subtle and intriguing in both flavor and texture, just the way good pasta should be.

The ambiance was great. We were seated right away for our reservation. From there, service and food were ok. The foccacina calda to start was tasty. I was a bit disappointed with my meal. I had the Vitellone which is a veal delmonico steak. It was rather tough and difficult to eat. I was very excited about it and left disappointed. My friend found her pasta to be underwhelming too. Our server was decent but rather curt. I’d rate my overall experience as average. I may go back; it seems that I may have just ordered the wrong item. The neighboring tables seemed happy?

This place is Amaaaaaaazing. Had the special White Truffle and handkerchief pasta and both are literally to die for. Started with Mussles (with just the right amount of spice) and the burrata/prosciutto with flakey crust. This place never disappoints.
One of the top 5 restaurants in all of Los Angeles period!
