Once again my girlfriend and I had a marvelous meal (and wine) at the Epicurean! The selections were varied and the service was great. The waiter took time out to explain the range of wines appropriate for our dinners. His recommendation was wonderful and I particularly enjoyed the time that he took with us to educate us on the selection.

This was our first visit to Epicurian for the Mother's Day Brunch. The selection was excellent. My son and I had the omelettes with a nice selection of ingredients. Another highlight was the sliced steak, cooked very rare. A nice option to the standard Roast Beef carving station. Salad bar was a nice selection of leafy greens, dried cranberries and the usual cut up vegetables. I also sampled the French Toast, cheese board and chocolate croissants. The brunch was well stocked, until we were about to leave, maybe waiting to refresh it for the next seating. My only complaint would be that the teens I was dining with certainly didn't eat $40. worth of food, so it is hard to justify the price, other than for a special occasion. On the positive side, there was no pressure to leave, as we sat talking and enjoying our coffee and desserts, in fact I had to ask for the bill, when we were ready to go. At other Mother's Day Buffets, we've been handed the check and made to feel that they needed the table for the next party. This was not at all the case at Epicurian, so I definitely enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. We were also handed a discount voucher for a return visit upon leaving.

There have been several personnel changes in the service staff and also in the kitchen. However, Epicurean is still arguably the best French restaurant in the area and one of the best restaurants of any type in the Capital Region.

Where else in the tri-city area can you get scrumptious duck confit and floating island in two flavors? The food at The Epicurean is so delicious, whether you are going for small plates at the wine/beer bar or for a several course dinner in the dining area. Our meal was special from the Oysters Epicurean to the Beef Bourguignon and Duck Confit to the Floating Island (we selected the classic in crème anglaise and also a chocolate meringue floating in a raspberry sauce - both were wonderful). We have also been guests at the beer dinners held at The Epicurean. They are a real treat from the craft beer selections to the accompanying courses.

Very disappointing cuisine. $12 arugula salad was dull and had an odd taste; $36 duck entree was tough, chewy and not at the level of fine dining experience. A forgettable meal. If you seek great french cuisine in the Capital District, this restaurant does not compare to Provence.

Went there after a birthday party for a light evening meal and staff was very helpful in suggesting what would be good to try. Had wine and four lite fare dishes to share along with a nice selection of cheeses. Everything was very satisfying and was just what we needed for a distinctly different experience. Will have to come back again with full appetite to enjoy the regular dining menu.

Nicely designed and crafted cocktails. Superb endive chèvre salad. Terrific entrees and sides. The first duck breast came out more than medium rare, but it was replaced in short order with a beautiful breast perfectly cooked. Great wine list. We had a red from the Loire, the vintner and some of the grape varietals were unfamiliar to us, but we knew to trust Sandy and Claire's selections. Service was attentive, but not intrusive. Wish we lived a little closer!

This was our first visit to the bistro, and what a find it was too. I made reservations for my wife's birthday and had asked if they could provide a special desert for her. Not only did they do that, but the entire service (the wait staff wished my wife a happy birthday, much to her surprise), was outstanding. The selection was mouth watering, the execution of each course was very nicely done, and the favors that each dish presented were excellent. This is not an in-expensive restaurant, but it is well worth every dollar spent. A very enjoyable evening spent at a delightful 'new' find for my wife and myself. Great wine, great food, and great service, what more is there to ask for!

I've been here several times, and again, the service is, well, strange. Went for Valentines Day dinner with another couple this time. First, no one at the hostess station, at 7pm on Valentines Day. Then, we need to wait for a "table to be reset", when the dining room is 60% empty. We stand by the cold front door for 10 minutes, because their sofas are about 6 inches off the floor, impossible to get up from if you are wearing a dress and heels or are over the age of 16. They must always do this, because the man who I assume is the owner walked by us numerous times without asking us if we were being seated or acknowledging us really at all. They seat us in the center of the dining room at a small table, even though there are tons of other, larger, more comfortable spots to seat us. I did not dare ask for another table, as I had on my previous visit, because that was met with some serious hostility. They seem to be very dedicated to their seating plan. No one takes our coats either, so we get to navigate our winter coats all night at the tiny table. First course, comes from other waitstaff, dropping before us 2 plated dishes, one EMPTY bread basket with someone else's crumbs in it (YUCK), and a plate of olive oil. No idea what that was, no one ever told us. At $75/ per person, mains were good, but small portions, especially on the vegetables. Main server was pleasant, however, again the service feels rushed, like they need you to get out so they can eat their staff dinner, which they did on my previous visit. By the time it was time for coffee, which was maybe 8:30, the place was in shut down mode, so you don't feel like lingering around. The food is good, but the experience really takes away from it, yet again.

I had placed simple instructions in the reservation comments. I wanted a secluded table and a bottle of our favorite wine at the table. Typically I don't make such requests, but thought it would make for an extra special evening for my fiance. Upon arrival, we were sat directly in the middle of the cocktail lounge, and no wine was at the table. Overall the food was overpriced as dishes came out either stale as if they had been sitting for the entire afternoon. Oysters were filled with shells as if they were not properly chucked, and my fiance duck came out cold. For a $200 bill, this meal was below quality with other competitors in the area.

This was our fourth visit, but it's been quite a few years in between. The place was beautifully decorated, with a Mardi Gras theme. The appetizers were good. It took a long time for the entrees to arrive, which was surprising, since the restaurant was practically empty (it was early, and a Wednesday). They were also good, not outstanding. It was the desserts that really rated my poor review. We had bread pudding and sweetened fried rice, and both were so dry, we couldn't finish them. Our waiter was very nice.

We are travelers from the Boston area and found this restaurant while shopping at one of the local stores. We had an evening free and decided to give it a try. The food and attention to detail was excellent. It was a special menu for the night for Mardi Gras. I had the salmon which was cooked perfectly. My husband had the Cajun seafood chowder and thought it was wonderful. The dessert was the flourless chocolate cake which was one of the best I have ever had. The service was a bit on the slow side. Our meal with appetizer, main meal, and dessert took almost 2 hours. However, that may be due to staffing of a small Mardi Gras party quietly taking place in the front room. However, we plan to return next time we are in the area. It is a hidden gem because I would not expected to find such a high end/upscale restaurant in this type of shopping location. Not from a cost perspective, but from a quality perspective. Definitely up there with some of the top Boston restaurants. Perfect for a quiet meal or romantic get away.

This was the 4th or 5th time we had dinner at Epicurean. The entrees are described very well on the menu but when the plates arrive they are lacking. For example, on the most recent dinner we had an order of rabbit that was suppose to be on a bed of orzo/herbs. Instead plain white rice was substituted. We had similar instances on previous visits that let us down with the lack of imagination and execution. I really want to like this place.

The most positive feature ... the ambience. Very nicely decorated, quiet. Service was minimally efficient, but without enthusiasm or connection. Wine pours are very skimpy, especially for a $12 glass. My order of steak frites was not prepared as requested (medium instead of medium rare) and very unexceptional in taste ... quite boring. Potatoes were seasoned nicely and best part of the meal. Creme brule desert was terrible, served in a large and very shallow dish, the consistency of pudding. I find no compelling reason to return given the price/quality relationship ... poor value.

Call for a reservation. We reserved a table on-line, but it did not upload to the restaurants registry. Fortunately the host was able to seat a party of two on a Saturday after 6:00 PM. The decor was an eclectic mix of industrial meets contemporary french country. Although the bar was hosting a wedding party, the ambiance was warm an inviting. The menu is "a la carte" but moderately priced. The wine list was well appointed and paired well with the menu. The portion size conservative, but our meals were excellent. We plan to revisit this fine establishment again and explore more menu options in the near future.

Gracious hosts, attentive wait staff, lovely dining area, great cocktails, nice wine list and, most importantly, fabulous food. Four of us recently dined there and each one of us loved our entrees.
