We were celebrating my wife's 50th birthday and we really had a nice time. The decor and atmosphere are very romantic (it is an old mansion after all) and we really liked the food. The menu is mostly traditional, but we liked that. Some places try too hard to be "creative" with their food choices, but the selection here is creative and tasty without being boring. The prices are only slightly expensive, but for once it is totally worth it. We'll be back for other special occasions in the future. Definilty worth the drive and worth your time to try it.

another excellent evening. Great food, great service. Both my wife's rack of lamb and my beef Wellington were cooked to perfection.
The best restaurant in the Lansing area.

The lobster bisque was too salty. The prime rib was over done. The salads were good and so was the rack of lamb.

We had not been to the English Inn for quite a few years. The food and service were excellent. It was nice to eat in a place where you could hear one another talk. Not everyone likes to dine in a noisy place. The English Inn is also a bed and breakfast. We have stayed there in the past on two separate occasions celebrating a wedding anniversary. Very beautiful gardens all around. The Grand River runs behind the inn. Very picturesque for weddings, etc. We plan to frequent the inn more often! It is a very special place. Also, the English Inn is not too far from Lansing and Jackson.

Beautiful interior. Onion soup broth was great, although size was on the small side. House salad and dressing was fabulous. Beef Wellington was a bit tought and the dough was thin. Mashed potatoes were excellent. Desert was the highlight; really really good.

This visit to the English Inn was nowhere near as good as the last time we went. Maybe it was an "off" night? We are hoping they did not change owners or management.

We ordered the same appetizer as before (Baked Brie)...Last time it was deliciously drowned in a fruit sauce, fresh fruit, and came with a plate full of crackers to eat it with. This time the sauce was a tiny splash on the plate, 1/2 of what looked like a raspberry(?), and there were maybe 6-8 tiny crackers. Our waiter never checked on us (see below), so we broke them in half to make them last.

My wife ordered the Lobster and Beef Tips... The lobster was way overcooked and crispy (lobster should not be crispy). The beef tips were also overcooked. It also came with raw rainbow carrots, which didn't seem right, it seemed like they should have been cooked.

I ordered the Beef Wellington. It was somehow very tough...I don't know how a filet mignon can be tough. I was wondering if they had substituted a cheaper cut of meat. This came with obviously frozen green beans.

My wife and I both agreed that the mashed potatoes were the best thing on our plates (they were amazing!). This was painful since the bill was so high. We walked out feeling we didn't get anywhere near our money's worth.

We would have complained about the food...but, overhead another table complain about frozen fish. The Manager gave them a long explanation about how frozen fish is the same as fresh. We didn't think our comments would have mattered.

Our waiter was very nice, but seemed to have other things to do. We often saw him at the big tables asking them how everything was going. But, the side of the room we were on (mostly 2-seat tables) was only visited for taking orders, dropping off food, and the bill.
The other staff was awesome! Our waters were never low and we didn't have empty plates for very long.

The filet I ordered was my only disappointment. I wouldn't call that USDS Prime, it was like stringy roast beet! It was cooked wonderful with all accents absolutely fabulous! Maybe the meat vendor should be reconsidered.

We went to celebrate an engagement and for the lobster special. I had the lobster tail which may have been the best lobster I have had. Seasoned perfectly
My family had the lobster and beef tips and the 3 cheese pasta. All were outstanding.
Wait staff personal and congratulated my son and fiance several times. The English inn is my very favorite to go place for a special meal or just because it is so good. I have never been disappointed.

Not inexpensive, but definitely worth the price for a 'get dressed up, special occasion type place'. The meal was wonderful, as we remembered, since the last time we cane nearly 25 years ago. We won't wait 25 more years to return.

Food was great and the ambience terrific. The only issue I had was that they seated my wife and I at a small table that was squeezed in between the wall and another occupied 4 seat table. The waitress even had problems trying to get to us. The strange thing was that there were plenty of other tables available so there was no reason to seat us where they did. We made the best of it though and the rest of the experience was very good.

The Filet Mignon was amazing, the salad was also amazing. We ordered the appetizer mushrooms and I would not recommend them, they were cold and a little tough. The creme brule was ok not the best that I have had but I would go back and try other appetizers and I will be getting the filet again.

We have been trying to visit the English Inn for some time and finally managed it for our Wedding Anniversary. We had a great time, the food was excellent, we had the Chateaubriand for 2. My wife even managed to persuade our server David to arrange for our starter to be just a Yorkshire Pudding with gravy - my wife is a Yorkshire girl and she said it was "spot on".

As we both are from the UK originally and we loved the house and the gardens and especially that the conversation in the Dining Room was muted and low, it was a special occasion for us two and you don't want to hear everybody else's conversations - do you! Next time we will plan to stay overnight as well.

There are few more remarkable settings. This is a former mansion in the style of an English country estate house, converted into an inn with wonderful overnight rooms and dining areas. There is a pub downstairs that offers drinks and lighter fare, including outdoor seating. The view is spectacular, especially the back view of the terraced gardens going down to a small river with woodlands behind. Overnight guests get breakfast with the room, and we thus enjoyer both dinner and breakfast with our overnight stay. We look forward to our next visit.

We have always enjoyed the warmth, feel and charm of the English Inn, and this time was no exception. The waiter - Kevin - was sharp, prompt and unobstusive. Diner was good. Not exceptional as in the past. The kitchen seems to be slipping. The selections were super, and the combinations enticing. Just the quality - for example my main was prime rib and a lobster tail. The lobster tail was exceptional. The prime rib cooked to perfection, but almost cold. These little things began to add up.

We adore the English Inn. It's one of the most romantic places we've ever been. Plan to spend a few hours exploring the grounds, grabbing drinks in the pub, and enjoying a luxurious meal with outstanding service. We plan to go back every year for our anniversary!

The meal was wonderful. The staff great. And of course the surrounding beautiful.

However I was disappointed when I used the restroom and the wastebasket was over flowing with paper towels. There are cleaning supplies to rid the sink of lime and rust in the sink. The window covering had caught some bugs in between the layers of curtains. The soap dispenser did not work. Not a good representation of the inn.

The prime rib was horrible. It was embarrassing because we were celebrating a birthday party and had guest from out of state with us. We told them how wonderful this place was and all 5 of us were so disappointed with our food. We go to the English Inn all the time and have never had bad food but this time it was horrible.
