Service and food were fabulous and this was a very special occasion in a lovely setting.
This was our third visit to the English Inn - all three trips were for my wife's birthday. The first two experiences were stellar. This last Saturday wasn't quite as nice. The room and veiw was beautiful but is was quite chilly. Our waitress was attentive. The food was so-so. I ordered prime rib medium rare and shrimp. My wife ordered prime rib medium rare. When served (priot to finishing our salad) my wife's prime rib was as ordered - medium rare. My prime rib was medium well to well done. The shrimp were overcooked and tough. We had no streak knives - it took several minutes and a reminder to get the proper flatware. Once the overdone steak was brought to our waitresses attention, she agreed it was overdone and aked if I wanted a new portion. She went to the kitchen, then returned and asked for my plate. She returned again shortly with my plate, with everything still as I left it, including the overdone steak. She told us another portion of prime rib was coming out shortly. Noe, my potatoes were cold, the asparagus was cold and I still had an overdone peice of meat. In a few minutes, a new prime rib ws brought out on a separate plate. Now with limited table space, I had to figure out how to gracefully transfer my new steak to my plate and move the overdone steak to the other plate. All in all, it was a mediocre experience for what we paid and for what we had come to expect. Oh, did I mention that the power went out during our meal? It was out for about 20 seconds until the generators kicked in. NOT the fault of the English Inn but didn't help the overall expereince! We will go back as anyone can have an off day. I have them frequently myself......
Everything but the food was good
First visit. Very romantic setting. Service was outstanding and the dinner was exceptional!
The experience is nice, we started in the downstairs pub and had a drink then moved upstairs in one of the dining areas for dinner. Our food was cold, it took a while to get, and our server was not very attentive at all. My water was never refilled or asked to be refilled. My husband had to ask for bread. It was just a lot of money spent on just an ok meal.
They do a fantastic job on Valentine's day. The food is fantastic. We've made it a tradition, this year we thought the service was a little slow but they're obviously busy and not sluffing off.
We enjoy the Inn every time we come, never have had a bad bmeal or experience.
Everything was great. Best steak I’ve ever had. I will be back
We had most incredible dining experience at The English Inn. The food and service was the best we have had in a very long time. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect evening. This restaurant does it right!
My fiancée and I came here for dinner to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. I had been here before but it was a first experience for her. She was blown away and we definitely plan on celebrating here more often. They even gave us a picture of the inn that they only give to people that are celebrating a special occasion. We are very thrilled. Can’t wait to come back.
An excellent evening of dining and well worth the price.
Great setting great food great service. Will be going back in the near future
We love coming to the English Inn, this time was no exception. We came for my mother's birthday and enjoyed our time together. The food was great, we started with the baked brie, then I had the butternut squash risotto, my mom had the chicken Oscar, another member of our party had the salmon, and the last member had the filet mignon. We also all had dessert. One member of our party could not make it, and the restaurant was very accommodating to the change of plans.
We were seated in a room that view the river and has windows on three sides. It was cold. I commented about the cold and they said they’d turn the heat up, but after the heat ran, it was cold again. The discomfort from the cold definitely interfered with the dining experience. The dinner was good. I wish they had a better dessert selection.
Exquisite place with excellent service. All staff were friendly and helpful. Food was exceptional! Definitely planning a for a return trip to the English Inn
First time and was almost like a movie.. the ambience of the whole experience was absolutely wonderful! Relaxed peaceful atmosphere that we could enjoy meal and conversation without being rushed. Service impeccable and meat cooked as requested. Definitely recommend and will return!
The English Inn is our favorite place to go for an awesome meal, great service and romantic ambience. Highly recommend!
It was a wonderful place to ring in the New Year 2020!
This was a very expensive meal, at $235 for 2 people. FOr this price, I would have expected a much better meal, with more choice, and much better service.
The waitress was not aware of the food on the menu or how it is cooked or prepared. It took 15 minutes to bring us a gin and tonic and a water when we sat down, and the service continued to be extremely slow all evening. There was no banter or friendly chat from the waitress at all. For a $40 tip this was very sub par. The entire meal plus dessert took 2 hours and 15 minutes.
The meals were okay, but not $75/entree quality. Maybe $20 would be my guess. It was okay, but for the money I would expect much better.
It was noisy and the tables were close together. It was new years eve though so maybe this was temporary, I am unsure.
Our waitress Caitlyn was great, but I'm tired of being sat in the back room every time I eat there. The lobster bisque was excellent, the prime rib mediocre and the dessert was fantastic.
Always a treat! Never disappointed. Lovely Christmas decor..a and ambiance.
Exceptional service, food, wine selection, and presentation. Thank you for making our visit and anniversary dinner special!
Amazing great service and food .never had a bad moment ever there
Delicious, complex and traditional food. Really nice find!
Very happy to see the four (formerly five) course Sunday dinners back. Everything was great.
For a special occasion, you can't beat The English Inn for dinner. The staff makes you feel very welcome and is constantly watching each guest to discreetly remove dishes as you finish each course. Try the mushroom caps for an appetizer and the salmon or prime rib for dinner. Be sure to save room for cheesecake or chocolate decadence for dessert. The dinner music on Thursday through Saturday nights brings the experience to the next level. We will definitely return!
English Inn never disappoints...always a great experience!!!
Beautiful atmosphere. Rather expensive. Surprisingly small portions for the price.
So low key and worth a trip. We're in Chelsea and I have been twice. One time we stayed in the villa. My husband's birthday is December so it is hard to figure out something different and not stressful 😂 food and service are excellent. Go!
This was absolutely perfect from check in to check out. Staff was amazing and the food was phenomenal. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend the English Inn if your looking for a place for a romantic getaway.
Probably the best steak and meat restaurant in Michigan.
Wonderful Thanksgiving feast!
Had the Turkey dinner at Thanksgiving.
The service was wonderful. The Presentation was lovely. The dark meat was uneatable, it was nothing but gristle. The green beans were cold. The cranberry sauce was delicious. Finished the meal with creme brulee & iit was fantastic. A meal for 2 cost us almost $100.
My prime rib was warm at best and mine was ordered well done. Other two dinners were fine. Very disappointing considering the price I paid. Waitress was very nice and did her very best to accommodate me. I would recommend but probably warm them not to expect perfection as I had. We been coming there for 15-20 years on special occasions and Thanksgiving.
Our meal was delicious! My husband had the stuffed walleye and I had the prime rib. We dined on Thanksgiving and it was alive with diners. The service is always impeccable. We loved our experience!
My family and I loved the Inn, it was our first time here and had a great time. The only thing that made me rate this 4 out of 5 stars was the amount of people, I understand it was thanksgiving so it was uncontrollabe but using the bathroom and leaving was a little tough.
We've been to the English Inn many times and we're recently there for Thanksgiving. A couple of us ordered cocktails which were mostly ice and not very strong. I had French Onion soup and the melted cheese was on the bottom of the bowl and not the top which seemed odd. The turkey dinner was just ok. Definitely the worst food we've had for dinner at the Inn. Service was outstanding. We'll be back.
Had a yummy meal consisting of lobster stuffed walleye and flourless cake. It was prepared perfectly.
Outstanding anniversary dinner. Prime rib was extremely tender and cooked exactly medium rare and filet was equally as good. Highly recommend
We love the English Inn!! Spent our wedding night there and usually go back every year for our anniversary dinner!!
