Staff professional and accommodating
Salmon and Delmonico Steak delicious
Chocolate chip and walnut pie outstanding
Food was delicious, but the service was awful. We had friends in from Florida who had always heard about the English Grill at the Brown and wanted to try it. Very disappointing. We specified beforehand when making the reservation that we were going to the ballet. They recommended reservations at 5:45 for the ballet at 8 pm. We were even early for our reservation. Our waitress seemed preoccupied with the table next to us , therefore in my opinion ignoring us. We had to ask for a wine list, bread, she got the lady's drink order wrong, but basically blamed our guest for ordering it wrong.I had a staple stuck to my lemon in my drink. They did take that off the bill. We asked to place our order but she said she had to get the other tables drinks. A couple other times she would tell us to wait two minutes, three minutes, while she did other things. Believe me, we were not impatient, just concerned we wouldn't make it to the ballet. She didn't even offer us dessert menus or coffee. By then there wasn't time anyway. We had been there over two hours. She left the bill without askng how to divide it, which meant she added it all together. When the men asked her to divide it, she answered by saying she didn't know who went with who. She didn't bother to ask early on. The overall experience there was very disappointing. We had intended to have a leisurely dinner, drinks, dessert before the ballet, but it was anything but, sorry to say. The English Grill is very gorgeous, and the food was delicious, but the waitress ruined it for us. We dine in fine restaurants frequently, and I usually don't comment on an occasional unfortunate meal, but I really feel like the English Grill should know this happened.
The food and service was excellent.
Loved the atmosphere, hot brown, and service. This is by far the best and only place to have the best hot brown in town!
We had a relaxing dinner with delicious food. Service was top notch. Definitely recommend!
The maitre d' was fantastic. Very helpful and made us very welcome while we waited for our table. He was very concerned that we had a good time. Waitress was helpful, cordial and was a pleasure to deal with. Buffet was excellent and the plated main course was very very good. So much much better than that hotel up the street.
it was a great experience. the food was beyond expectation and the wait staff was attentive.
We stayed at this hotel and went to a show at the nearby Palace Theatre as part of a birthday celebration. We ate dinner at the English Grill and it was WONDERFUL! I had the Hot Brown and it was delicious. I highly recommend it.
Fantastic place to dine and socialize. Food selection is exceptional. Jameson and his team are extremely attentive with the right subtlety for intimate dining
Excellent. Our experience was fun, elegant, and comfortable. The staff was kind and attentive. No where else I would of rather spent the evening with my family while I visited from out of town.
Anniversary dinner. Romantic and memorable.
A no rush evening with good food in a nice setting. Great service. An upscale meal at upscale prices.
Loved the food we had the Hot Browns very, very good although I didn't taste or see any bacon?
The current sorbet was excellent. Everyone should try it.
It's worth it to go once. For the price, there are many other better deals in town.
Go here for The Hot Brown. The food and service were amazing but I feel that you're paying for the atmosphere and history here.
My husband and I had an amazing evening at The English Grill in The Brown Hotel. It's been awarded the AAA Four Diamond on multiple occasions, and its definitely understandable why. The food and service were impeccable, and it was easily the best fine dining experience I've ever had.
My new favorite restaurant. Fabulous. The food was amazing. And the atmosphere set you back in time. Beautiful decor. The staff was so kind and on the spot.
Dinner before a show, food was great and the staff could not have been better. Also enjoyed the lobby bar.
First time I’ve been there....was celebrating Valentines Day and I loved it....Food and service was phenomenal!
Beautiful venue, food was top notch, service at its best. One of the better fine dining places in Louisville.
The food was fantastic. It was almost an hour from the time our order was placed before our meal arrived.
So romantic! Great service and wonderful food! Would go back for dinner, not just special occasion!
Excellent food, service and environment. I will return to the English Grill. I recommend this restaurant to all.
Went here for Valentine's day and was completely satisfied. There was a drink called Love Potion #9 and they poured the pomegranate juice down an ice sculpture to chill it before they poured it into the drink it was really nice. The food was so good my wife and I ordered the fillet mignon the food was cooked very well and it was so flavorful. My wife usually likes to add some type of sauce to her steak but she was completely satisfied with the steak without adding anything. It was a bit pricey since it was Valentine's Day we had to do the 4 course meal but if your willing to spend some money this is deffinately worth it.
Fantastic people! Great experience!! Valentine’s Day would not have been the same with out it!!! “Love potion No. 9”
Great foodie experience! One of the best lobster bisque I have ever had. The scallops were also browned beautifully and plated to appetise the eyes! The filet was also cooked to perfection and then topped off with the chocolate striptease! This dessert is a must have not only for its flavors but also the show it represents. All of this means nothing unless one has exceptional service. Our server, Kelly, was a delight and kept the evening interesting with stories of the Louisville area and it’s history!
It is definitely the most romantic restaurant any where around here and undoubtedly the most impressive as well.
Elegant room; gracious and ever so pleasant serving staff; food spot on with wonderful flavors and beautiful presentation; relaxed meal with no sense of being rushed to accommodate the next customer. All in all, a very fine meal and dining experience.
This was my first visit to this restaurant. I had the hot brown and I have never had one that good before. They had a lot of things that looked good on the menu but I had always heard how good the hot browns were and they were right. Very nice evening.
Two thumbs up. Respectful of our request for privacy while still providing great service
Very enjoyable evening. Out meal was delicious and our server George was friendly and did a fantastic job taking care of us.
My date and I thought it was a very unique experience to have a nice dinner in a very historic hotel. The waiter made the experience extremely special. He told us stories of the bar's history, explained the menu fully and made us feel special.
Our waiter Kelly was awesome! Was there with a 13 year old "foodie" who wanted to try the original hot brown. Great experience!
We chose the Brown Hotel for a long (4 day) weekend get a way to celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary. The Hotel and Lobby Bar are fantastic. It's a very beautiful and historic building. Our room was also very beautiful, bright and specious. The English Grill on the other hand, was a real disappointment. The service was extremely slow for the amount of guests that were there. We were there around two hours waiting on our dinners. The Filet Steak I ordered medium was well, well over done and I had to send it back. The steak they substituted for the Filet was "OK" but because it took so long for them to serve it to me they sent it to my room and I had to eat it there. Now mind you people, this was our 10th Anniversary Dinner. The English Grill did a Fantastic jog of making it very unmemorable occasion. We will not be returning to the English Grill next time we are in Louisville, KY.
Old time elegance. Great food and service in a stately historic setting
This was our first time to the restaurant. We were going to see Jerry Seinfeld at the Louisville Palace and my wife had a Groupon to use by mid-March for The English Grill so it was perfect.
The restaurant was absolutely beautiful and had a nice, quiet setting which is what were were hoping for. The show was at 7:00pm and our reservation was at 5:30pm. Upon sitting down we let our server know of the time constraint so after ordering a glass of wine each, we each put our entree order in. After watching others around us get both their salad/appetizer orders as well as their entrees, our meals (steak for me, salmon for her) came out at 6:45pm!
When our dinner finally arrived (which was very good), I gave our server the Groupon we had along with my credit card to cover the remainder so we could get that processed and leave after finishing our food in order to be on time for the show. Her comment was one I will never forget, saying "I thought you guys might have a Groupon." What an insult. We don't claim to be some upper class or highly distinguished individuals, but we know how to dress and act in a restaurant of this caliber. Very disappointed.
I would hope our experience isn't commonplace at this restaurant, but first impressions mean everything and ours was one which left a bad taste in our mouth.
The restaurant is beautiful from a day gone by. Has lots of history to share. The waiter, Kelly, was fantastic. He shared the history with us, got to know us and let us know that whatever we wanted, they were here to provide. The food was extraordinary! We were worried that our 9 year old wouldn’t find anything to eat. Although kids items aren’t on the menu, Kelly was easily able to find food to please our son. This is an amazing experience, and we will be back!!
