We heard about this place from the review. It was supposed to be the must try bucket list place in each state. What a shock how run down this place is. The food was OK, nothing special. The service from our waiter was good but the supporting staffs talk more than offering actual service. What a disappointment!
Fine dining! Service was exceptional. Enjoyed the steak and lamb entrees.
We were impressed with the impeccable service and thoroughly enjoyed the table side preparation of the Caesar Salad. Yasar was a terrific waiter.
Excellent place for a nice date night! Great service and excellent food! The dining room is beautiful too!
We had a wonderful time here. It truly was an excellent dining experience.
Yes. The restaurant is lovely and the food was fabulous.
Delightful from start to finish - the hot brown is a must have. This was the very best Manhattan I’ve ever had in my life. The bread pudding was to die for. Had I been able to eat another thing - there were plenty of options. Highly recommend this experience if you’re in the area.
Would have been a more wonderful experience if the bar service had not been so slow. Am used to sipping on a cocktail while ordering dinner.
Exceptional food and service and not be missed if you are in Louisville
We had a wonderful experience for my husbands 88th birthday. Thank you so much! Carole Soldo
We loved the English Grill and the Brown Hotel. Beautiful place with lots of history. At the restaurant, our waiter Kelly gave us great advice on food choices and was extremely funny. Food was awesome and venue gorgeous.
Traditional, formal dining with attentive service
Super good food and kind attentive staff. No complaints! Be sure to leave time to enjoy the hotel, wander about and grab a drink at the bar
What a wonderful evening at The Brown! The food is delicious and plentiful and the service is impeccable! Can't wait to return!
This place exceeded all of my expectations our waiters were Rob and Howard. They were the sweetest and funny waiters. It was me and my boyfriends anniversary and they brought us out a little desert to celebrate it. The food was amazing and I can’t wait to go back.
We hadn't been in a while, but the food was as good as we remembered. The menu is not very big, but has a decent variety (although they could have another vegetarian option or two) and everything we had was excellent. Portions were generous without being overwhelming. The service was also fine, hitting just the right balance between formal and friendly. The servers were attentive without hovering. The wine recommended went very well with the food. It's one of the few places left these days with an acceptable noise level. The carpet, upholstered chairs and tablecloths soak up a lot of the sound, so we didn't have to shout to hold a conversation. We really appreciate this in an era when restaurants, even nice, expensive places, seem to be getting louder and louder. We like the old-fashioned atmosphere (dark wood paneling, horse prints, waiters in formal attire, and such). It's obviously on the expensive side, but we don't think out of line for the quality. As we had a birthday, they comped us a dessert, a classy touch. Not an everyday place for most people, probably, but a very good special occasion place, or if you just feel like a bit of a splurge.
Great experience. Food, service and ambiance were great. A little pricey but very good.
Brood food, beautiful location and amazing service! Definitely recommend!
Everything about the dinner was perfection from start to finish. Yasser and Harold told great stories and made our meal picture perfect!!!! I am very happy that we had a true Louisville experience with some wonderful gentlemen taking care of us.
Really excellent evening. Kelly and Harold were wonderful. Great conversations with both of them throughout the night. And their recommendations were spot on. Superb evening for my wife and I.
Solid upscale restaurant. One of our favorites here in town. Recommend.
Rob and Harold were outstanding as was the food and wine! It was a fabulous experience!
Elegant, distinguished ambiance at The English Grill. Food always great, no matter the chosen entree.
Wine list is expansive. Longtime servers are skilled at creating a comfortable, easy experience. Troy, GM, oversees the evening, checks on guests with attention to detail. Best choice for special occasion, business conversation or when treating yourself.
Already recommended to others. It was outstanding. Service was more than the best. Hot Brown was better than expected.
While not cheap, the prices are more reasonable than the name brand steak houses. After many experiences at this restaurant, I can say that they have all been great.
One of the best, if not THE best experiences we’ve ever had. Not just a restaurant but a true experience.
Thank you for a great night! Our food and service was excellent!
Our waiter was awesome, food was delicious, and the building is beautiful. I would recommend it to anyone.
Fabulous service and food. They made
our evening special.
great service food was good history was rich fillet was a little tasteless but could have been a cultural difference
Amazing food, attentive service and a beautiful setting. The hot brown is to die for!
Delicious! The best duck I've ever had and the Hot Brown is a must have in Louisville!
Our first meal here and we very much enjoyed everything.
Beautiful room. Good was wonderful my whole group had a wonderful experience.
English Grill is the last of the fine real Kentucky cuisine. Old world beautiful restaurant.
Absolutely best meal in Louisville!!!!
The restaurant lived up to its reputation in all ways. The food was delicious, the wait staff outstanding, and the ambiance perfect for a special evening. It was quiet enough to easily carry on conversation with our table mates, and the spacing of the tables ensured privacy from other diners.
I had the hot brown, which far exceeded my expectations based on other restaurants’ preparation of the same dish—there was no comparison! My son had the duck, his first outside Beijing Duck on a trip to China, and he thought it was delicious. He also said the Brussels sprouts with which it was served were cooked and seasoned perfectly. My daughter-in-law ordered the braised pork shank, and declared it the best thing she’d ever eaten! Finally, my 15-year-old daughter, for whom the entire weekend was planned, had the Verlasso Salmon and ate every bite with relish, including the side vegetables and legumes.
The meal was in celebration of my daughter’s adoption day (we call it her Gotcha’Day) and I had indicated that fact on my reservation. We were overwhelmed when Brad appeared with a bottle of sparkling apple juice, compliments of the chef, in honor of the occasion; and as he filled my daughter’s glass, he told her the chef would also be sending out a special dessert at the end of the meal for the perfect ending to her celebratory dinner. He made her feel very special, which meant the world to all of us at the table. She was delighted when the Chocolate Striptease arrived and our waiter, Kelly, set ablaze the center of the chocolate cup, and it melted evenly over the top of the cake, each side falling away in a manner truly reminiscent of someone taking off items of clothing. This was all presented in a decorous manner, appropriate for a 15-year-old girl.
Our waiter, Kelly, was wonderful. Very attentive to our every need and delighting us with stories of the restaurant’s colorful history. We couldn’t have asked for better service. Our experience was perfect!
Four old friends gathering for a marvelous dinner and superb service. We will be back later this year to celebrate our friendship again.
Great experience at dinner! Enjoyed the original Hot Brown
