   The waiter and wait staff were incredible and the food tasted delicious. The bartender, however, seemed annoyed any time we asked for something. We arrive about 15 minutes before our reservation and were told we could wait at the bar before being called. I asked if we could sit at a table since my 80-year old grandma wasn’t tall enough to easily get in to one of the bar stools. We were told we could only sit at the bar. Then the host didn’t call us until 10 minutes after our reservation; they were delayed because of staff issues as they were just opening. Apparently staff wasn’t showing up on time for work and were not prepared to seat us at our reservation time. When the host went to call us, he forgot our name but instead just pointed at us to follow him. I would definitely recommend the sit-down restaurant side of the English Grill but would avoid the bar and host area if you get there early or need to break a $20 for the valet tip.

   From beginning to end our experience was 5 stars. Courtesy, and professionalism at all times. The food was scrumptious and well presented. Rob was simply the best server!! Also everyone was friendly and really seemed to be enjoying their job. Thank you so much.

   Our family tradition is to have a special dinner every holiday season. We asked specifically for Jamal (he used to be our waiter at Oakroom). It was wonderful to see him! The food, atmosphere, service, timing... all perfectly spot on!

   It was our first trip to Louisville, KY and we were able to stay at the Brown Hotel. Our diner at the English Grill was exquisite! Each dish was prepared to bring out the best flavors of the ingredients. My husband and I agree it is one of the best meals we have had in a long time. Looking forward to another trip and another wonderful dinner at the English Grill.

   Yes, I would recommend eating at the bar. There is more options and service was better. Loved the little guy who offered us a compliment of the chef and our waiter was fine, just not exceptional. The food menu was limited and no where near the caliber of food that we get in our home town Charleston. It didn’t help that the people who sat next to us were literally fighting and the man attempted to punch his wife. The commotion certainly was a disruption for us celebrate my husband’s 50th Birthday. We had the crab cake and the Cesar salad which were ok. The food was more diverse and better at the bar.

   We don’t always go to fancy restaurants for dates, but my fiancé had a hard week and I wanted to treat him to something nice! The ambiance was definitely set when there was a recommended dress code and a no-phone suggestion! But by the time we sat down and our server greeted us (Kelly) we already felt welcome! Kelly was very entertaining, regaling ya with stories of the Brown’s rich history and the guests that had graced The English Grill! Since we’ve only lived in Louisville 7 months, we knew we had to try THE Hot Brown and ordered one for each of us. Kelly told us “they are huge, I can only get a third of the way through it myself! Would you like to split one?” We agreed, but we’re very thankful for the suggestion! The Hot Brown is one of the lower priced menu items, and he just cut the total bill by this recommendation! We had appetizers, drinks, meal, and dessert and our total bill was around $65. The food was EXCELLENT, and the service was beyond expectation, so much so that my fiancé and I agreed that this was the best dining experience either of us had ever had. We will absolutely go back to the English Grill, and beyond that, we were also already considering the Brown as a spot for our wedding, this definitely helped it move even further to the front of our wish list! Thank you so much for the hospitality.

   Food and atmosphere were amazing. Really enjoyed the staff. Our server was very personable and told great stories. Went there for our anniversary, but plan to go back another time. This place is a gem in Louisville!

    Food was great as were the waiters. Noise level at times due to a large group was a little more than I would like in a restaurant such as this.
