The English Grill at Brown Hotel
Book your next event with us
This is our second time back in 8 months, and it was just as memorable and excellent as we remember. Troy Richie and his staff do an outstanding job making the evening into beautiful and memorable event. The food is incredible, and staff is both inviting and eager to make the evening fun. We will definitely be back.
We had a wonderful time at the English Grill. Jamal and Harold did a greet job taking care of us. The food was excellent. First time having A Hot Brown and Mint Julep and I would definitely recommend. The restaurant is beautiful and so very relaxing. Thanks for a wonderful evening.
I thought that the presentations were often a bit pretentious. The service was slow. The steak that I had was overdone and somewhat tough. I would not recommend this restaruant other than for someone who wants to be in a quiet environment.
The freshest food I've ever eaten outside of Europe.
The braised pork shank brought back memories of my childhood in Germany.
Terrific Mothers Day celebration! Exceptional food, service and atmosphere! Could not have been better. Thank you to all of the staff and chef that created such a great day for our family!
Mother’s Day brunch was superb! Everything was perfect and presentation was lovely. Service was friendly and prompt. For me, the desserts were the highlight! Highly recommend.
Went for the mother’s day brunch and the food and service was top notch. It was expensive, but well worth it.
George was my server and he was just exceptional and well-versed on the menu offerings. All of the staff were extremely professional and friendly, never shying away from eye contact and a warm smile. Kelly was full of stories and entertainment and provided insight as to the historical background of the hotel and its relationship to the Seelbach Hotel. What a great combination of staff flitting about.
The food, oh my gosh the food. The meal I had here was the absolute best I’ve ever had. I had lemon-butter seared scallops with carrot/rutabaga purée, fruit salsa and chive oil, as well as the sautéed morel mushrooms with roasted cauliflower...in addition to the hot brown. The dishes were beautifully palatable not only to my mouth, but to my eyes as well. I would be loathe to miss another visit here the next time I’m in the area. What a truly wonderful experience.
Absolutely amazing experience. George our waiter was awesome. We will definitely revisit.
Top-notch food and service. The pace was perfect; relaxed but not slow. The menu was not large but was varied, and everything we ordered was delicious and prepared exactly as requested.
Love the staff! Everyone we came in contact with was amazing and knowledgeable! Love the whole experience especially our entrees’ and desserts
As always the food was delicious and the service was excellent!
Service and ambiance perfect. Food - horrible from beginning to end.
Fantastic evening, with the serving staff being so attentive and engaging that made it a very memorable night.
Great experience and the service was excellent!
Delicious meal! I had the Hot Brown and it was rich and filling but worth every calorie. We shared the Derby Pie which was not quite as good as anticipated. After seeing their specialty - The Chocolate Striptease delivered to the next table, we wish we had ordered that -looked amazing! The only item that we thought was overpriced was the coffee at $6 a cup. It was brewed at our table in a Chemex and tasted good but we would have been happy with a $3 cup brewed from a coffee maker. The service was outstanding and included a bit of history on the restaurant from our waiter.
A must if you're visiting Louisville!
This is a definjite 'must' if in Louisville. Just being in this historic hotel is a treat. We started out with a drink at the bar where the bartender was so invigorating and knowledgeable of Kentucky Bourbon
The matri de and waiters could not have been more personable, pleasant, professional and just delightful to have as our staff. It was not very crowded (a great day to go 4/22), so we had very good service, along with great stories, good food and ambiance.
Easter brunch was delightful. Set up in the beautiful lobby with a delicious selection.
A very pleasant evening with good food and excellent staff.
Our waiter was the best. We had a great time and the food was amazing!
I would recommend the hot brown and the deserts.... Nothing else. Worst Old Fashioned I have had in Louisville. Their attempt at table side Ceaser salads was not well executed. Wife had a steak that was lacking of flavor. Will not be back.
We were pleased with the service and the food at The English Grill. The servers and hosts were kind and friendly, but not overly rigid. It was a relaxed friendly atmosphere. The food was excellent and did not take long for us to get our salads and entrees. My sister and her husband arrived at the restaurant and the hosts rearranged the furniture so we could sit together. They seemed happy to accommodate us. We really enjoyed our meals.
Jamal (our waiter) was very polished and attentive. Great space and good wine list.
We were there on a slow Monday and only a couple of other tables were taken. The waiter was nice and colorful and quite attentive. The food was really good. We liked the room and the background music from the piano in the lobby area.
Service and attention to detail outstanding.
One of the best places in the city of Louisville that have a wonderful dining experience!
The food was a culinary explosion into new and exotic flavors totally uplifting to one's taste buds to be slowly savored at each bite. The Old World charm of the of English Grill possessed a totally relaxing atmosphere with magnificently large square columns with decorative figures adorning the frieze of each capital. Tables were generously spaced and displayed with elegant china, fresh red roses, and crisp table linen. The service was impeccable and totally added to an evening of quiet celebration! This is truly a taste of paradise at its finest!
It was our first time at the English Grill and it was outstanding. The room, the maître d', our server and the food from a wonderful chef made for a fantastic birthday dinner. It is just a great experience!
Wonderful food and drinks. Our server had fun and informative historical ditties about The Brown Hotel and that made our evening very enjoyable!
Outstanding, food, service, and ambiance!
They pay very close attention to details and make sure you are completely satisfied with everything. Their timing on dishes was on point! Highly recommended!
Very nice, old but fancy atmosphere. The food and drinks were great. I highly recommend for a celebration or just a nice date night out. I also recommend getting reservations. When a show is going on, it tends to get crowded.
The staff were amazing! The brown entree I ordered was burnt around the edges. Ambience was great!
Had great service but food was just ok. A little pricey for the quality of food. Was not crowded but took awhile for food to be served.
We had a 5:45p reservation and were planning to attend a show next door at 7:30p. Our food arrived at 7:20p. We spent a fortune for a 10 min meal and much stress plus we were late for the show. The food was delicious but the service in the kitchen sorely lacking. VERY disappointing. Won’t be back. There were 10 of us.
My wife and I have been needing a nice dinner out.
Kelly who served us made us feel so relaxed and took wonderful care of us. He worked with the magnificent chef who prepared everything for my wife completely dairy free! The meal was outstanding and meant the world to us!
Dear Guest, Appreciate the very nice thoughts on Kelly and our – magnificent Chef! Please let me know when you are next out our way and I will reserve a nice table and ensure we meet all your expectations. Hope to have you back with us again soon. Regards, Brad Walker Vice President & General Manager
Elegant restaurant. Service was absolutely excellent. The Brown Sandwich was excellent and my filet was cooked to perfection. The tables were spaced so you didn't feel like you were eating with your neighboring tables! It's the little things that make it special: no cell phones, coat check, dress code that make it a special evening.
A wonderful experience with a wait staff that not only were on top of everything, but also offered stories of the past from the hotel to the bar; and famous people that stayed and played there. Totally love this place. Also, great antiques!!!
The service was truly outstanding!
Food was well prepared and reasonably priced. Our entire group was very satisfied with the quality. The highlight of the evening was our server, Rob. Rob was a wealth of knowledge regarding the English Grill, the Brown Hotel and the surrounding area. Rob was very attentive and would request his service again.
My husband and I decided to go to the English Grill for our anniversary. OpenTable suggested it was romantic. It was very nice we love historical places so we enjoyed the decor and wood work but I would not describe the ambiance as romantic. The lighting felt very bright and several tables around us were loud. Beyond the lack of romance the food was fabulous! The services was good but could have been a little more attentive.
