The Elm Tree
Inspired by their father’s and uncle’s restaurants, brothers Ben and Jonathan Mishaev created The Elm Tree restaurant as a fresh and modern twist to their family roots. Growing up surrounded by a perfect mix of food and hospitality, their passions were obvious from a young age.
Ben’s passion for cooking and Jonathan’s interest in beverage programs and hospitality has created the perfect combination of delicious, unique food and welcoming, homey atmosphere. To Ben and Jonathan, each guest who enters the restaurant is like someone who comes into their home. The brothers strive to make them happy, treat them well and ensure they leave satisfied.
This is such an amazing restaurant for so many reasons. The food is fantastic, the servers are friendly and attentive, and the space is quiet and comfortable but still lively. I have been here on multiple occasions and the quality and value are incomparable in the downtown core. We ordered the brussel sprouts, fried cauliflower, charred eggplant, grilled octopus, and cured salmon to start. I had the lamb chops which was a huge portion and full of amazing fresh flavours! My friends had the green pea risotto and the burger and everyone was very very happy. We shared the Malabi, rose water ice cream, and pistachio mascarpone for dessert and all three were so delicious and the perfect end to our meal!! Can’t recommend this place enough!
Appetizers were great! Lamb shank dinner ok. Service excellent.
I really enjoyed my visit at the Elm Tree. My Salad was delicious and fresh. Service was excellent and discreet. I was there on a blind date.
Pleasant atmosphere. Very much liked the appetizers. Main courses were interesting but lacking just a bit of flavour.
Delicious!!! Wonderful service!!! Going back again next week!
Perfect. The blend of flavours is amazing. This is a go to that will please everyone.
Highly recommended. Fantastic menu. Best Kohlrabi salad ever! Both fish dishes were excellent. Menu has something for everybody.
Delicious food, attentive servers, quiet environment. Highly recommend.
Food was good (not good enough to recommend) and overpriced for the serving size. Limited menu selections. The salads offered were unique but pricey.
Best thing about the restaurant was that it was a decent restaurant near the Chelsea Hotel where one patron was staying.
Food was delicious.
Generous portion sizes and excellent service.
Will definitely come back again!
Great experience. We had 2 starters and a main. All good except the octopus was over cooked. I would come back.
Wonderful restaurant, high-quality dishes that were unique. Would recommend to anyone
Excellent food and wine choices, we were able to access a wine no longer on the wine list but there were extra bottles!
Exceptional Service, delicious food, and well priced items! Could not have asked for a better dinner.
We went as a group of eight to celebrate a special friend's birthday. It was a great choice for our event! The service was fantastic and we had a great night. Table favourites were the appetizers we shared as a starter: the Brussel sprouts, figs and ricotta, octopus and eggplant were fabulous. I would definitely go back and would consider a tapas-style meal of only appetizers, they were so delicious!
Wonderful fusion of flavors. We tried nearly every app & found them exquisitely prepared and EXTREMELY rewarding. Our waiter Kanin was engaging, funny and very helpful. I wish I didn't have to travel 450 miles to eat there!
Good food. Poor service. The restaurant closes at 11. But the staff showed an attitude that they wanted customers to leave at 10.
We had an amazing dinner - they were able to accommodate my allergy to garlic very well. We will be back!
Attentive staff who understand good service and are knowledgeable about the menu. Food was outstanding and fresh!
Will definitely visit again.
Always great food amd service
I have zero complaints about this restaurant! What a fabulous experience - exceeded my expectations.
We were about 20 mins late for our reservation and no questions asked. Servers were all friendly and prompt. The food was absolutely incredible as were the drinks. I had a cocktail and my date had one of their beers. Selection and quality 10/10. The temperature, the ambiance, the noise level - all perfect. It was cozy, relaxed, modern, not stuffy but very classy and high quality. I have already recommended it to friends and will most definitely be back!
I wasn't expecting the food to be so delicious. One of the best quality meals I've enjoyed. Simple and fresh. I had the grilled eggplant with pomegranate seeds and the seared scallops. My friends said their meals were also wonderful. Grilled octopus, salmon, fish, snow pea risotto, lamb shank.
Really enjoyed the duck confit and fish salad. Service was excellent and nice ambiance. I recommend Elm Tree!
The food was good but nothing special. We had subpar service by the server who never asked us how the food was or if we needed anything else, and later came over to toss dessert menus on the table, again not asking how anything was. We made a comment about it but they made no gesture to make up for it. All in all we were left paying $100 for an average meal and service that you wouldn't expect from a place with such a good reputation.
It was a great experience. The food was fabulous. The service was amazing and helpful.
Excellent place in all respects. Great food, fantastic service, nice atmosphere. By far the best place we have eaten at in Toronto!
Delicious food - I had a salad and a veggie dish, both flavorful and fresh.
Waiter still charged my table mate with her dinner even though she only ate a bite and did not like her food. Do not order the eggplant!!!!!
Elm Tree is my go-to restaurant every time I am meeting my husband or a friend for lunch or dinner. The food is amazing. The restaurant is cozy and I love the fact that I can hear my guest when we converse.
We two are retired restaurant reviewers, we have seen it all. The Elm Tree is one of the very few newer places that isn't simply hype. The food is delicious, just the perfect middle eastern nuance, the service is helpful, professional and friendly. The lovely front steps give you the feeling you've arrived "somewhere." You sense an investment in genuine quality in all things. One of us was vegetarian, the other decidedly not. We both loved our meals. Servings were generous, and we brought some home. We thought, afterwards, it would have worked to have ordered various plates and shared everything. We hope we can find a good reason, celebration or consolation, to go back. This might be our new favourite restaurant.
The Greek salad and fried cauliflower were both to die for. Lamb shank was fall-off-the-bone tender and the pasta special looked delicious as well. Great service, will return!
Hadn’t visited The Elm Tree for a while but being back in Toronto recently I had the opportunity to return. It did not disappoint. The atmosphere and exceptional staff have remained solid and the noise level was muted enough allowing for easy conversation with friends. The menu has always been a bit eclectic but has sufficient variety for everyone to find something to satisfy. All in my party seemed pleased with their choices with the salmon seeming to be the most praised. I had the scallops which, as always, were cooked to perfection. My side of beets was only “okay”. I think some plainer vegetable sides without the sauces, etc. would be welcomed by patrons. Dessert was yummy (pistachio lemon curd) but I miss the poached pear which was incredible. Presentation was perfect and clearly much attention is paid to detail at this restaurant. I highly recommend dining at The Elm Tree.
One of the best restaurant I have tried so far in Toronto.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I really recommend!!
Great atmosphere. Great service. Food was very good. We will definitely be back.
Great casual spot .. centrally located
The nutella cheese cake is to die for. My friend has many food restrictions and the restaurant is very accommodating. I will go again for sure.
It was our first time and instantly became our favorite! My niece and sister both commented that it has become their favorite. Everyone was happy that night. Everything from the salad to the main course to dessert were outstanding. I had the Confit Duck Leg and I can still remember the exquisite taste. The burger was overdone but as soon as we told the server, he immediately changed it for us without extra charge. After dinner, my family were so happy, they kept thanking me for taking them there! Completely satisfied.
Amazing food, good sized portions. Good value for money. Waiters are very friendly and attentive. Great spot for a romantic date.
I took my girlfriend for a Valentine's Day dinner and was impressed by the quality of food (it isn't cheap but worth it once in a while) and the attentiveness of the wait staff. My girlfriend is celiac and the server made a special effort to go through the ingredients and make sure with the cooking staff that she could eat everything. That meant a lot. I have already told a number of friends about our outing and I'm sure we'll be back.
