About

This restaurant is permanently closed. Permanently Closed - The Elephant Walk serves Award-Winning Cambodian and French cuisine. We also feature extensive VEGETARIAN and GLUTEN-FREE dishes on our menus! With so much depth and breadth to our menus, both exotic and familiar, we have something for just about everyone. Cambodian cooking is beautiful and delicious, but still rare in America. Our menu features both traditional and original Cambodian dishes the originals created by our Chef/Owners Longteine and Nadsa de Monteiro, a Cambodian mother-daughter team born and raised in Phnom Penh. Our Chef/Owner Gerard Lopez, at our Cambridge restaurant who was born and raised in the south of France, also creates original dishes. Why French too? Cambodia was a French colony for a century, ending in the 1950s. In other words, our Cambodian-and-French theme is an authentic reflection of…us!

Appetizers were good, main courses were kind of a downer. Would only eat appetizers next time.

Have always loved this restaurant but it appears after calling for another reservation on the day following recent visit that they have "closed indefinitely?" I hope not...

We've been here many times -- love their vegetarian and seafood dishes. The restaurant is in the beautifully restored redbrick Henderson Carriage Building, which dates from 1892. The main dining room has high ceilings, golden light, comfortable seating, elegant decor, quiet ambiance. The Cambodian-French cuisine is light, flavorful, and varied. The service is friendly and prompt. Good wine list; also beer, cider, and cocktails. The menu has something for everyone.

After a disappointing meal here quite a few years ago, I forgot about Elephant Walk. Thanks to a gift certificate, I returned and had a very good meal. I appreciated seeing familiar favorites on the menu as well as some new items and specials. I always like the option to go for a Southeast Asian flavor or for French cuisine. I'll look forward to returning.

We really enjoy eating at the Elephant Walk. Lots of choices for those who eat gluten free.
We shared a Cambodgienne salad as an appetizer everyone enjoyed it. Those who could enjoyed the vegetarian rouleaux.
For entrees it was hard to tell who was happiest, but there was a pear crispy triangle served with the tuna that wa totally worthy of being its own appetizer.
We loved desserts trying the passion fruit mousse and the ille flottante.

Wonderful Cambodian food. An unusual cuisine but in a good way. New flavors for us. The pork shoulder with mushrooms was fantastic. The classic Cambodian chicken soup very good, especially if you like lemongrass. Only negative was slow inattentive servers. Standing around while water glasses sat unfilled for much too long. Overall worth it for the food.

Very disappointing. I've been wanting to go here for years and finally had a chance. Let me just say that the service and staff were great. Friendly, helpful, attentive and quick. The atmosphere was clean and nice. Four of us did the Prix Fixe which was a good value. Two of us got the egg rolls . They were great! One of us got the crisy rice with ground meat - also great. Then we all got the duck crepes. Delicious. But the entrees were really, really, really disappointing. Two of us had a Beef bourguignon - it looked overcooked and tasted blah. We gave it a 3.5/10. Two of us had the shrimp with lemongrass and veggies. The sauce was ok, but overall the dish was really bland. NOT at all what we were hoping for. Chocolate cake for dessert was very good, but the portion was extremely small. Probably won't go back.

First time visiting the Elephant Walk restaurant. Tom our waitstaff was very attentive to our diet needs and requests. He made the choosing of dishes comfortable for us. The restaurant says to be a fusion of French and Cambodian cuisine, however, I found the descriptions of different dishes to be in line with the Cambodian cuisine not French. The food is full of flavor
and spices, great for anyone whom enjoys a fair amount of seasoning. The space has many large windows facing the street. The restaurant accommodates small and large groups of people. It is on two levels. A big party can easily be have there.

This is our favorite "special occasion" restaurant in our neighborhood. The food is always good, and even though we've tried most of the menu, it still seems fresh, because it's very different from most restaurants. Also, it's a good value. Not cheap, but not outrageously expensive, and you get something unique. It's usually quiet enough for a good intimate chat, but they can also accommodate bigger groups. It's just too bad they don't do weekend brunch anymore.

All four of us enjoyed our meal at Elephant Walk. After a brief wait our dinner proceeded smoothly and comfortably. The food was very good, especially the whole grilled trout, which was a
special the night we ate there. Good cocktails & excellent dessert as well.

I am reluctant to recommend this restaurant because of the poor customer service we received. A member of our party's jacket was stolen from their coat rack. The manager was nowhere to be found and later we were informed that it was not their responsibility.

My niece was staying with us and when deciding where to take her for dinner with the family Elephant Walk seemed like the perfect choice. Good food, comfortable atmosphere, and reasonable prices. We were not disappointed. We chose several appetizers to share, including the roulades, and then ordered a variety of main courses, all of which were delicious. Mine was so large I took half of it home for another meal. The two teenagers tucked into ice cream crepes and the evening was a big success. The only slight criticism I would make is that the service was rather slow, and our server forgot to bring my husband's drink. However, the servers were very friendly and cheerful so it wasn't a big deal.

Entered restaurant at 5pm for an early business dinner. The restaurant was empty. There would be three in our party. The receptionist led me to a small table that was up against the wall in the far corner of the restaurant. I told her I would prefer a table in the open near the front. I was shocked to see that she was getting angry. She grabbed a chair and carried it down to another corner table for two and motioned for me to sit there. I refused again and pointed to a table beside me that had room for three people. She walked away and I could sense her anger. This restaurant was empty at the time so you would think that getting a proper table would not be a problem. By the way our waitress was very good and the rest of the meal was good. However I will not go back because of the attitude of the receptionist.

This was the fourth time we dined in this restaurant . The food was great, as always. We really love their fantastic and creative appetizers. Unfortunately, this was the first time we felt that the service was below par. It wasn't quite the server's fault, who apparently tried to do his best (including taking a picture of us upon request) but we felt that the number of servers was too few to cater to all customers. Therefore, our server had to serve several tables simultaneously and was incredibly busy (quite justifiably) and we had to make an enormous amount of effort to catch his attention when we needed something.

Had lunch with a friend. Very few people there from 12:30 - 2. One wait person took care of everyone and did a great job. However, food was very disappointing, Very little flavor for a cuisine known for it's special spices and food was not hot. Have eaten at several Elephant Walks over the years (Brookline, Cambridge & Waltham) and had good experiences but this time it fell short of what I had expected. Maybe they just had a bad day but hesitate to return.

You cannot go wrong with the elephant walk. The food is always excellent. We started with the vegetarian avocado soup. Followed by a beef dish and very nice banana leaf covered fish soufflé. I went here for lunch on a weekday. I had a reservation and was seated immediately. The restaurant was not crowded at all (only 3 other tables were full), so it was quite quiet. The server was attentive without being intrusive. My companion had the beef short ribs and I had the Poulet a la Citronelle. Both were excellent. I will definitely be going back and would strongly recommend this establishment.

We just had dinner here. We chose three prix-fixe courses. The best part of this prix-fixe is to choose three dishes from starters, second, and entrees or starters (or second), entrees, and desserts. We ordered three dishes from starters and second, two from entrees, and one from desserts. Soup of the day, cold soup with avocado, delivered good balance of sourness and sweetness. Cambodian spring rolls (slight difference from Vietnamese) also carried crispy skin and tasty source. Mussles had good Asian juice (mixture of garlic, sugar cane?, and fish broth?). We were very much satisfied with these dishes. However, main courses were not as good as we expected. Boeuf Bourguignon is certainly better at pure French restaurants than here. Beef short ribs are also better at Chinese restaurants. This seems to be a problem in many restaurants (good appetizers but worse main). Overall, this is not a bad restaurant (good service, good atmosphere, and good appetizers). Do we go back again? Maybe yes or maybe no.
