The Edgewater Grill
Our shoes stuck to the floor as we walked. It smelled like ports potties. Even with windows open it triggered gag reflexes. First time I have walked out of a restaurant.
The food and service were both great. Friendly and attentive staff
Was in San Diego on vacation with a group. We had a great time. Food was fabulous and great atmosphere. Server was very attentive also
It was nice, but very drafty due to the doors being open. We kept closing them, but the staff would open them again.
All the flavors of the food were good but the scallops were a bit chewy and the asparagus was mushy
Being that this was Christmas there were very few places open or had expensive buffets. Only picked it due to availability and location. Nice location, but most of the regular staff was off. Menu descriptions were poor. Butter sauce is not cream sauce. Could not even see the ravioli in the bowl. Poke was not fresh and did not taste good. Overall food wasn't good and presented poor. I think the regular cooks were off that day. Lesson learned, eat at home on Christmas. All the regular staff in restaurants are off that day.
Located in a nice waterfront mall. Great views of the waterfront. A bit challenging to find, but if you just walk through the shops to the bay, you will see it. Good food, server was good. Kids Mac ‘n Cheese came out with no cheese (just the mac). Server was quick to remedy!
Right on the water but decor/ambience was nothing to be desired. Food was poor.
Great food and great view. Wait staff was excellent. I highly recommend.
Great service and food.
We almost skipped this wonderful experience because of the negative reviews. After carefully reading several reviews, we realized that most of the negative reviews were from “locals” and the most of the positive reviews were from “travelers”. Since we were visiting San Diego we decided to trust the reviews of fellow travels. So glad we did. The service was awesome, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was comfortable. We’re not sure why the “locals” are so down on this place, but I hope some of them give this place another chance to impress.
Excellent service & tasty food.
Shrimp tacos were very good. Service was ok- my order had the wrong side - not the one I ordered. Had a nice table outside with heater on.
We love sitting outside and enjoying a nice Sunday brunch with the lovely waterfront views. The service is really, really good as with the food.
Thank you so much - we are so happy you enjoyed yourselves! Come see us again :) -EG (^Megan)
Love this place so much. We come to visit whenever we visit San Diego.
Thank you, Gale -- we appreciate the review, and your loyalty! We're so happy you enjoyed yourselves. -EG (^Megan)
Good food / value
big location so uncrowded
outside sets on the waterfront for groups up to six
The views were lovely, the waitress was very nice and good but my meal was overcooked.
Very old restaurant including furnishings. Looks like an old breakfast diner. Food is ok, similar to a fast food quality. View is great. That is it! If you want to show San Diego to friends, do not take them here. You will embarrass yourself!
Excellent seafood on the patio overlooking the bay. Good, relaxed service. Prices were a little high, but considering it is in a tourist part of the town in Seaport Village, and is right on the water, not too bad.
Service was slow. The server did not refill water nor solicit more food or drinks. We had a large group of 14 people, however, it was not a busy night. I would not recommend or plan to visit the Edgewater Grill again.
Very helpful with gluten free options. I got GF Shrimp Tacos with GF pitas and rice. It was delicious. The fries are not GF.
Sitting outside at this restaurant makes the quality of food almost irrelevant, but the food is great. The Shrimp Cobb Salad and Crab Omelette were excellent.
My wife and I went to Coronado Beach for the weekend to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and take some time away from the busy world and reconnect. Greatest thing we’ve ever done for ourselves! With that said, we enjoyed our dinner on the water. My wife ordered shrimp tacos and some wine while I ordered the fish tacos and a beer on tap. The fish tacos didn’t have enough flavor, but the shrimp tacos were amazing! The wine and beer were both very good as well. The service was great and the view was incredible. The prices are high, but that was expected considering the location of the restaurant. Overall, I’d rate the place a 4.5 out of 5.
Cold steaks, undercooked scallops, bad service, old school outdated vibe. All around bad choice on our end. Nothing redeeming here unfortunately
Patio seating overlooking the water with a beautiful sunset .. great food served by a fun waiter... couldn’t have been better!
Let's face it, how can you beat the view from the patio area? You can't. The food (pizza) was great and the service was excellent. I would go back there in a heartbeat.
We sat outside. Beautiful view of the harbor. It was great people watching and saw many boats pass by.
visiting from out of town(Tucson) with friends who live in SD, we all totally enjoyed it and plan to return!
thank you again!
We were greeted very warmly. It was made clear that first come would get seating on the outside area. We had hoped for this and the staff worked very hard to make it happen. We also were seated at the reservation time. Our waiter was excellent and everyone enjoyed the appetizers and dish they had ordered. The price was very fair for the location, quality of food, and ambiance but it is a bit pricey! Good value!
Overall, it was a complete 5 star for us!
Enjoyed the view by the beautiful beach with family and friends.
The Edge Water Grill has always been a place where our family and friends go for lunch. We had never been for breakfast and it was pleasant between the two families we have 4 younger kids the antention was great and the timing was quick from order to food at the table. We did make a reservation and that made it easier for us and the restaurant as it seemed.
I have been to Edgewater Grill many times. Until my recent visit, it was one of my favorite spots.
I checked in and asked for outdoor seating, which is typical. The hostess informed me that there would be a 20 minute wait. We were happy to wait and I was assured we were next up for a table. I was disappointed when I saw a group of four being escorted outside less than five minutes later.
When we were seated, the hostess took us to a table for two in the back corner. There were two tables for four open next to us most of the time we were there. One of the tables, however, was finally filled with a twosome. Before I left, I asked the hostess why she squeezed us in at the table for two, but put the other party of two at the table for four, which was much more comfortable. Of course, she apologized profusely saying that her manager seated them and that’s something that she tells her not to do.
We loved our experience at The Tavern. This was our second time dining there. Both times were equally great. It is a fun place and the service was fantastic. The menu items were diverse enough to satisfy many tastes. The food we had was awesome. Well worth the visit. We would definitely recommend!
Service was very slow and then the food was at best like warm. My wife complained and the plate was taken away without any apology or mention of when and if she would get a replacement. Eventually we gave up as everyone else in our party had finished. And the second beer I had ordered never turned up. When we asked for the missing food to be taken off the bill we were met with a somewhat rude and non apologetic response. Suffice to say we couldn’t get out of there quickly enough and would not recommend this place .
It was good. We were sat right away. We ordered the burger, the smoked tuna melt and the ravioli. Everything was great and our server a total seweetheart
It took 1 hour for our appetizers to come out. 1 1/2 hours to finally get our entrees and my steak was burnt. Many other great restaurants in San Diego than this one.
The food was not up to par. My wife got the scallops and it only had one and a half scallops. I ordered the prime rib and asked for medium rare and it came out well done. Will not be going back. It was 120 for 2 dishes, two mixed drinks, and one beer. Ridiculously expensive.
Service was extremely slow and inattentive despite the inside being only half full and the tables around us seemingly getting better service from their server.
The food and setting is very good.
I found this restaurant while Googling waterfront places to eat with my family on our vacation in San Diego. We have a 3 year old and a baby, so family friendly was a must. We made a reservation and got outdoor seating without a problem. I was a little disappointed that the outdoor furniture was junky plastic. I would think in a place like San Diego where the weather is nice year round that they could use nicer outdoor furniture, especially for their menu item prices. The view was nice, but the sunset was off to the far right, which you can't really tell in the pictures. Not really anything the restaurant can control, just thought I'd mention. The bartender was super nice to our three year old and gave her a cup with some cherries and an umbrella, which just made her day. I had a the seafood pappardelle and my husband had the stuffed scallops. Both were fresh and super tasty. We overall enjoyed our experience at Edgewater Grill.
Always wonderful to see Kristi - but starting our day with her was just ideal. Great breakfast and fabulous service by Kristi.
