Not all the dishes were "out of the park" experiences. The starting bread was far too sweet for pre-dinner cocktails or a dry starter wine. And there was no savory/salty alternative for a traditional, non fruity/non-sweet cocktail. The staff member who brought courses placed them to the side of the table rather than in front of us and didn't remove the placeholder/course plate from the table, he also failed summarize the dish as it was set before us. Don't think the experience was worth charge.
Loved the modern take on Hungarian cuisine and attention to detail. Excellent!
Great food and environment. The staff was great as well. I thought the food was slightly overpriced but I would recommend for a date or special occasion.
Exceptional food, service, and wonderful atmosphere. Consistently cool crowd and exciting menu. Always love our visits to The Eddy!
One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. I’m brining my clients here!
Wonderful service! Food was solid
Best of staff an very attentive
We were visiting the city and the Eddy was convenient to our hotel. The room was simple with whitewashed walls and wood accents. As the room filled up the sound level increased, but never loud enough that it interupted or drowned out our conversation. The menu is varied, but the Langos, (hungarian fried dough with garlic, parmesan and honey) were a delightful starter. Heirloom tomato salad with shishito peppers was fresh and seasonal with a kick while the tagliatelle was a flavorful blend of parmesan, garlic scapes and egg. The mackerel was well prepared, but not our favorite. The service was delightful and we felt well taken care of.
A very charming restaurant with a delightful ambiance. The food is outstanding ! It is fresh, flavorful and offers a different twist to the usual variety. Highly recommend the lamb loin . The borscht and tomato salad were also excellent. The langos is a must:)
The staff were very professional and the Chef Extremely talented!
although main course selection is a bit small and could have been larger, the food was amazing. Service was professional AND courteous. Atmosphere is intimate and decibels... well, one can have a conversation with your date (and with other tables, as we did), without having to scream. Definitely a gem without too much fanfare.
Good food and good ambiance.
Wonderful waiter, exquisite drinks, food is a bit unpredictable in flavor/ quality — stick with appetizers and drinks.
Despite the time crunch we gave them, they were able to accommodate us without making us feel rushed. The tasting menu was a great progress (don't miss the lamb). Wish the wine pairing was different from the BTG options.
The food is absolutely delicious and the service was impeccable. I wouldn't recommend it for a first date. There's something with the acoustics here. I found it super loud.
Been here a few years ago and the food was incredible... was disappointed this time. Food was average and they didn’t get our order right.
Delores was an amazing waitress. The food was delicious and the portions were large.
The Eddy was a great experience. Small dining room made it feel very homey. Our waiter was so nice and described all the dishes. The food was amazing!! We did a la carte, but multiple courses.
Lovely restaurant with a cozy warm atmosphere. Food was beautifully prepared and delicious — all four of us ordered something different and everyone enjoyed their meal. Service was outstanding. Will definitely go back again.
The Eddy has been our go-to special-occasion dinner spot in NY for a few years now. The service and atmosphere are second-to-none. The food is inventive and clever.
Underwhelming food at very high prices. Space is lovely esp at the bar. Go for drinks and eat elsewhere.
I had a 10:30 pm reservation for The Eddy and upon arriving, I was promptly seated. The restaurant itself is relatively small, with dim lighting and an overall cozy feeling. The design gave it a welcoming yet elegant vibe.
I ordered the tasting menu, which arrived in appropriately timed increments- I never felt
rushed yet I also didn't have to wait long for the next course. The first course, a langós, was unassuming in appearance yet delicious. The pecorino and honey formed a perfect sweet and salty combination. Next to arrive was a summer squash garbure. This dish was very simple in appearance and taste, yet highlighted the seasonal and extremely fresh focus of the menu. All vegetables were perfectly cooked and the honey added a subtle sweetness that complimented the vegetables.
Also part of the second course were roasted beets with a cherry sauce. This was one of my favorite dishes of the night, with the cherry sauce adding a hint of tartness to offset the sweetness of the beets. This dish had a beautiful presentation, vibrant red beets contrasted by the dill and cilantro garnishing the dish.
The third course was a scallop crudo, which was reminiscent of a ceviche. This dish was good but not outstanding.
For the fourth dish I chose to have the trout. This plate was delicious and was definitely made by the fish skin, which texturally contrasted the soft fish.
Finally I chose the olive oil cake, which was good but not extraordinary. However, it did pair excellently with the ice wine I was given on the house.
Service was excellent throughout the course of the night and extremely helpful on describing the dishes and selecting drink pairings. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in NYC.
Amazing!! The food was so well prepared and delicate. I don’t normally order chicken and so glad I did, it was perfect.
Same gracious service and great food! They saved our reservation time when the subway outages caused a delay. Waitperson less knowledgeable about the menu than the first time we dined there, but that is okay when the food and overall service is so wonderful.
Bartender could have been less serious and more personable. But everything else was fantastic! Fresh, seasonal, creative, delicious meal. The asparagus soup was transcendent! However, the lamb steak was a bit fatty.
Love the food and drinks at The Eddy, but our service was wobbly. We dined on the late side (had to push back our reservation to 9:30, which should have been fine as the restaurant confirmed/accepted), and our server was visibly pushing us through the meal. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing (which is wonderful!), and the server at one point even took my friend's wine glass away when she hadn't finished drinking it! All in all a great place, but if you don't want to serve past a certain time, do not accept reservations then. (I also had let them know that it was my birthday...)
The food here is unbelievable. No matter what you order in the menu you can’t go wrong
An impromptu Saturday night dinner turned into some really great food in a mellow East Village vibe. Super tasty vegetables and great main course options were a real hit.
Small and intimate, this restaurant is a great date night location. The food was good, but we were disappointed with the service. (However, we arrived late, and were probably a bit loud!). I would recommend for a yummy, quiet dinner in the LES.
This place was a bit experimental in its foods - I had an olive oil poached scallop main with a fire roasted beet appetizer - I wasn't blown away but it was good quality, expensive but not overly so (about $70 per person overall), and they do wine pairings which is nice. The service was attentive if not experienced or knowledgable. the venue was great, intimate, with good decor and lighting. Overall, it was fine. This is neither a stellar no damning review. I am glad we ate there, and we all talked well of the place on our way out the door.
Excellent dinner, great service, only complaint was the lovely woman sitting next to us constantly arguing with her a-hole husband.
Very delicious, especially the scallops and the hungarian bread.
Greasy and overpriced
Cocktails expertly composed, scallops and other mains juicy and exceptional. Vegetables mixed in technique and quality - the salad is refreshing and subtle but carrots and roast scallions needed more thoughtful preparation. Dessert and fry bread welcome indulgences with a unique Slavic scent. Go for the cocktails and specialties, be selective with accompaniment.
There were a number of items unavailable ( even with an 8:30 reservation.) That was disappointing as we had been there before and loved the food. The waiter-unremarkable, a bit awkward. Still it is a nice intimate and cozy atmosphere, unfortunately they need to manage the place and kitchen better.
What a great restaurant! I have wanted to go since I walked by a few months ago. It did not disappoint. The Eddy has a friendly neighborhood vibe. The cocktails are inventive and very well prepared. You can tell they take pride in them. The food was unique and delicious. Had the Kabocha Squash and Beef Goulash. Both dishes were something I haven’t seen and absolutely delicious. The other dishes in our party were equally good. Portions sizes left us comfortable and not over stuffed. Totally delicious and unpretentious. Will do a tasting menu next time. I highly recommend The Eddy.
Overall disappointed based on the hype surrounding this restaurant. Food was good but nothing memorable enough to return. The menu has Hungarian influence so think heavy and hearty but with small portions. We chose to order a la carte and tried many of the dishes from each category. The food was very flavorful if you enjoy seasoning and spice. The restaurant had zero ambiance (think EV dive). After dining, i had the distinct feeling that i had been played by a fantatsic PR/social media team. I dont even understand the recent conde nast accolade re top 21 bars in nyc...
Nice to see this place doing so well after a transition to a new head chef. The food is great and unique with subtle Eastern European influences. Get the savory doughnut.
Food was delicious! Happy hour Sazerc was very tiny, not a generous pour.
The eddy is great! Had a wonderful conversation with the bartender while waiting for my party to arrive and enjoyed wonderful food and service after.
What phenomenal service accompanying wonderful food! The Eddy has achieved truly personalized service towards its patrons (patient, attentive wait staff, remedying anything we asked to our preferences, positive interactions from all who "touched" our experience). We arrived early and were seated, had a leisurely meal with a waitress who must have been challenged by our many questions and requests and served great food! Will def return!
