The Durham Ox
We are dog friendly but please let us know if you are dining with us.
I admit that every classy pub/restaurant I visit of late seems top notch but the Ox definitely joins them. My first visit but not my last. The wines were very impressive, more so the house wines by the glass. The menu was exciting and I enjoyed the large Ox Seafood Platter then the awesome Dual Lamb dish. No room for a desert.
A fantastic cosy pub. Amazing good and good service .
The staff is the most friendly and welcoming I’ve met. The pub is cosy with two different dining areas and both times I was there I enjoyed an excellent meal. The menu choice is also very good with an interesting variety of dishes. Good wine selection as well and don’t miss out on the desserts !
Lovely welcome, friendly staff, food hot and served to time. Good choice, lots of room round the table. Felt private despite other diners.
Great place to call in for a government d value lunch
Went for Sunday lunch, been several times. Food really nice although potatoes luke warm again. Good value and well presented.
Lovely family Sunday lunch. Very accommodating staff who turned the music down without any issue. Great food and wine.
Lobster tiny and expensive. Hake very dry. Service too keen - rushed us through and took first course dishes away before one of our party had finished. Menu was confused and looked like it was from a restaurant chain. Definitely poorer quality standard of food since changing ownership. Disappointing.
This place is always good that is why I keep returning.
Gets better every time! Absolutely delicious food, value for money, service and atmosphere. Would recommend!
Birthday meal with family, ambiance and service first class. Food very good
The staff are very friendly, polite and attentive. The setting full of character and charming. Just enough space between tables and a varied menu with daily specials available too. Our order arrived very promptly and was well cooked and presented. My partner had the lamb which was not quite as tender as it might have been and the cauliflower cheese lacked cheese flavour but the biggest let down was the fact that it was only lukewarm when it arrived and ,as it had been served on cold plates, chilled very quickly!
Food choices very good and enjoyed lovely meal.
Wish we had gone sooner when we don't live that far away.
It was only the second time we have enjoyed a meal at the Durham Ox and we will definitely be going back.
The food was excellent, service just as we wanted it, no rush to get to your next coarse It is our favourite place in the Easingwold area
Incredible meal at the Durham Ox! The Chateaubriand for two was the best steak we had both ever eaten, and the Provence Rosé again, was one of the best bottles we’ve had!
Service was impeccable - will definitely return!
Great meal ..one of our group chose badly but the staff corrected it without issue.
Good pub food. Service was poor, staff seemed distracted, even getting bill was significantly delayed.
Staff indicated able to accommodate member of party who was gluten free, which they did on the whole but put non gluten free bread on soup. Expected better from reviews.
Enjoyed the atmosphere and the service was good. Had the fish and chips. Fish was well cooked and nice and crispy but the chips were on the firm side and only average
Goat's cheese and pea fritters lacked any flavour. Hake main course overpowered by the excessively salty samphire in large quantity and hardly any spinach in dish.
Lovely evening, some of the younger staff still need some experience, but overall we both really enjoyed ourselves.
Excellent venue and food. Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Lovely restaurant and good service. Food excellent but did take some time to arrive. However, they were very busy for a Tuesday lunchtime.
Have not been for some years but hope to return more often.
Excellent under current management. Have been visiting for 40 years but for dining now the best yet.
Amazing seafood platter, enough to feed a family 😂.
Top notch food well worth price as the us excellently presented and delicious
We go to the Durham Ox every year and it has never disappointed. The choice of interesting, delicious meals with the board specials is amazing, and the food was delicious. Would recommend this place to anyone who would like a special dining experience.
Went for lunch with friends. It is a lovely place whether you sit indoors or outside. Had good food, good service and overall had a great time.
Very disappointing lunch at the Ox. The salad ingredients were old & wilted & the service was curt & lacked warmth even though it wasn’t busy. Will not be rushing back.
We arrived early - no hassle. We ordered from the early menu and the steak was very tasty, coupled with the excellent service we will be visiting again.
Great food and relaxed atmosphere
Good value for money
My wife and I eat there on a recent visit to yorkshire after reading some good reviews. The pub itself is quite pleasant and traditional however the food overall was somewhat disappointing compared to many other places we have eaten at in the area. Portions were quite large but a little bland, we both had the lamb done two ways which we had eaten something very similar at another restaurant and frankly this was not in the same league and was considerably more expensive. The bill at £110 for a few glasses of wine and 2 starters, mains and one dessert was far more than it was worth as there are many better places to eat.
A very relaxed lunch and dining area to meet friends. Staff attentive and helpful without overbearing. Decent selection of local ale an a good menu to choose from - the set lunch menu was great value. Food was excellent and cooked to perfection. The smoke salmon starter was beautifully presented and good portion size - the same goes for the beef and Ale Pie with Savoury scone dish. Excellent
Excellent food as ever, service good but a welcome and some attention on arrival would have been appreciated. Hanging around being ignored by several staff members was a poor start. Came good eventually thankfully.
The duck was perfectly cooked, succulent and tender. We also had hake, beatifully cooked and seasoned, served with samphire. Pleasant relaxed atmosphere. Service was friendly, attentive and efficient. Deserts were tempting traditional fayre, deliciously indulgent and worth the calories (we had sticky toffee pudding, treacle tart and an icecream sundae). We will return.
The food was good the staff very friendly had a lovely night.
Fantastic food, atmosphere and service for a family celebration meal
Excellent food and service. Lovely place and highly recommended.
Really nice food
A wondeful place to either have a relaxed drink or a gourmet meal for an excellent value, in a friendly atmosphere.
Top notch! If you're in the area and don't visit the ox for food or a drink well, you've made a big mistake and you are definitely missing out!
Great food, sizeable portions, good service, super atmosphere, good value.
Thanks for a memorable evening.
