The Dumbwaiter Restaurant
Ask for Darby!
Atmosphere...they nailed it.
Service...we had Darby and she was phenomenal.
Put this one on your list, and remember to ask for her...she’s a rockst
Guys, I love this place and the food is top 3 in Mobile. I would give another star if you would get chairs that weren’t so stinking uncomfortable. Everyone is always uncomfortable and ready to leave. I promise to start ordering desert too if you get some better seats for sure.
We got the raw oysters as an appetizer and we split the scallop entree. Both were excellent. My six year old got the kids hamburger, which was cooked about as well as anything I’ve ever seen. Burnt actually. Also, the fries had too much pepper for a kids dinner.
My steak was wonderful. Had a friend who ordered the burger. Came out extremely overcooked. They made her another one and it was good!
Dumbwaiter is very accommodating for Business Meetings.
Food was great however it was very hot in the restaurant that evening. 8:15pm to 9:15. Too hot to enjoy our meal. We had to box it up and take it back to our hotel. Air conditioner was not up to the task of cooling the space. Waitress confirmed this as she mentioned how hot it is during her shifts.
I think the menu choices were varied enough to allow anyone to choose from it. Big think for us was to arrive in town at the hotel and be able to go on line, look at the menu and make a reservation. Very user-friendly web page. We chose to share their "Fried Green Tomatoes". Good but a little too rich with the additives. A more traditional dish is what I was expecting. The Entrees were again good. My wife had the "shrimp & grits", but her comment was "too rich". I had the rack of lamb. For me the meat was perfectly done. I could have used more "greens" and an option of mint sauce on the side. A lot of food and we had to get a "doggy bag" to take home for another meal the next day. Table service was prompt and we did not feel we were waiting longer then normal to get our food, even though the tables were all occupied. I would visit this place again when I am next in town.
Food good , waiter nice
But it took longer than usual for the food to get out
This is by far one our favorite go to restaurants. The service is always fantastic and the food is always top notch.
We make a point to stop in mobile on our way to the beach and we always eat at Dumbwaiter. We were so disappointed at our visit here last Friday. My husband and I both ordered the fish of the day. It was cut paper thin and there was one tiny piece of fish. I have never seen such a tiny piece of fish. We also got the Brussels sprout appetizer. They were swimming in oil. And it was a huge serving for an app. Our waiter forgot to bring the bread basket. Our drinks also took 20 mins to come from the bar.
We were so sad to have this experience. We come here once a year and it is always such a lovely meal. Sad to say, we probably will never go back.
Food was great. Service was great. Waiter suggestions were spot on. We were a party of 4 and tried several apps...oysters, seared tuna, fried pimento...all delish/great presentation. We were seated by the front door so traffic and the monsoon outside was a bit interruptive. Atmosphere is rustic and open. A great look for old-town Mobile.
We are enjoyed our meal very much. The service was great. We started with the pimento cheese balls and the friend green tomatoes both were superb. We got a variety of entrees , steak , fish, scallops - all excellent. The restaurant filled up fast!! Definitely need a reservation for this yummy little spot !
I loved the food, service and atmosphere. The only minor complaint is the tables are fairly close together. Other than that, it was a great evening.
God was very good. Portions a little large , so in that respect - good value. More casual than we had expected. Enjoyed it .
Excellent service! Loved the food!
Food was very good. Tables are a bit closer than we like. Also, our server was coughing....a lot. Wasn’t coughing at our table but at hostess stand and other places. We were visiting from out of town.
The food and service were excellent! I can’t wait to visit Dumbwaiter again.
fantastic! We were celebrating just being married and the staff was fantastic!
Might be the best Brussels sprouts we’ve ever had. Great service by Darby too.
Late Mothers’ Day
Chairs were extremely uncomfortable. Food was good. Had a large noisy crowd which made talking a little difficult.
Our favorite place in Mobile!
The food was amazing and the service was great. Only complaint is the seating. We we seated right in front on the window With the sun in my wife’s face, additionally another couple was seated directly next to us it was so close it was like we were sharing a table. We had to ask to move because of the sun, the restaurant was pretty much empty so not sure why we were seated how we were. The food was so amazing we will definitely be back.
Was excited about the opportunity to have dinner here - read great reviews....well, our dinner was average, service was average and as a result, far below expectations. Dined at 2 other "ranked" restaurants over the weekend - both mer or exceeded expectations...
Look the space is great - menu great as well...our fish was served lukewarm, they ran out of veggies and brought a half filled dish and said "sorry" we ran out" (what happened to bringing a solution - maybe another veggie dish?) and at 9:15 on a Thursday evening, started a full scale clean up of the restaurant (vacuum cleaner noise, etc)
Hope other nights are way better
Everything was great it was just a bit noisy.
Food was average. They were out of the sauce for one of our dishes, maybe they could’ve offered a discount for serving an incomplete dish? Our server was very attentive.
I have found the food quality here to be hit or miss. Meh, I probably won’t be going back. To many other delicious options nearby.
Great downtown restaurant. Food and service are wonderful. Prices are a little expensive for Mobile.
We were promptly seated and received great service. The atmosphere was pleasant and the food was excellent.
This was our 2nd visit! A year ago for my birthday! And this year for Anniversary! 100% approval all the way around! Our guest was extremely impressed as well! Will definitely be back, and so will our guest! The entrees we ordered could NOT possibly be approved upon! Shrimp & grits! Pecan crusted chicken! Tensaw Tournedos! New South Brussels' Sprouts! Oysters on the Half Shell! Cutting Board (flatiron steak)! All superb!
Great food, superb service. Loved it! Highly recommend for a nice night out.
Excellent food and service...we will go again when we are in Mobile. The murder pointe oysters were to die for!!!
Although the food was delicious; we waited over an hour for our entrees. The parties next to us were all seated after us and ordered multiple courses and were done with their meals before we were served. We did not order appetizers. We were a party of 5 with a 7:45pm reservation; we ordered by 8 and didn’t receive our meals (nothing custom) until 9:15. The manager never came over to apologize or check on us.
Great service, delicious food and wonderful cocktails! Highly recommend it. The restaurant is a little loud, but everything else was perfect.
It was really good food. My dad even ate Brussels sprouts! The cornbread is awesome!
We really enjoyed out trip to this restaurant. The Brussels sprouts were wonderful. The service was good and everyone was very nice and polite. I will definitely go again when I am in the area.
A wonderful meal and welcoming staff!
Fantastic place to meet clients or to meet your lovely wife :)
Wonderful experience, can’t wait to visit again!
The seating of two people at the two person tables was not our choice because of the closeness of the tables. The server was too close when sliding in between the tables. We were reluctantly seated at a four person table. The metal chairs were very uncomfortable. The food was good but portion size was too small considering the cost. This night was to celebrate my girl friend's birthday at a nice downtown restaurant. I made the server aware of this occasion. We ordered a chocolate covered brownie to take the place of a birthday cake thinking your restaurant would "no charge" this item. Much to my surprise, I was charged a lot for a small brownie. It was not the cost but the idea of being charged. Maybe I was expecting too much. In spite of the little things, we enjoyed ourselves.
One of our best dinners with a great selection of wine and the ambiance was all good! We plan to return soon!
