I have been there quite a few times and the food is consistently good
Great Christmas lunch experience. Food was very good, as was the service.
Went after work to have dinner and a catch up with a friend at what appeared to be a nice pub. It's more of an after work "shouting" place. You can't hear the person next to you as the music is pumped up at full volume. I wouldn't recommend it.
There is very little luxury about the pub but we had delicious rump steaks and excellent wine. Happy to recommend the Duke and Duchess.
Restaurant is spacious, and on the evening I dined, very quiet. Friendly people, and was served with good steaks.
We thought this would be a quiet place to catch up and have dinner, but it seems the quiet is reserved for lunch. The place was buzzing (loudly) in the evening and we were really glad to have reserved a table.
We ordered the starter platters with our drinks and found the quality of food to be good, but it was too loud to stay on for dinner. I'd love to go back for a quiet lunch some time to try out more food from their menu
Tucked away on a quiet street round the corner from St Paul's, this is an excellent choice for a business lunch or for tourists. The menu is short, but the food is excellent. Attentive service made for a very enjoyable business lunch.
Would definitely recommend the Duke & Duchess.
I have been here before and had no complaints but this time I had the Spicy, free range chicken burger with guacamole, home-made chips, onion rings and brioche bun. it tasted like Processed chicken it was horrible. The place has a really good vibe but this put me off.
Great service, good standard gastro pub fare, went there as a good place for entertaining a Canadian colleague wanting some nice British food.
I was really surprised at how much my friends and I enjoyed our meal here as it was a very well priced pub for the location. Service was attentive, although it was quiet, and the food was great! Would definitely go again and already have recommended it.
We (4 girls) wanted to try a new pub near St Pauls that we hadn't tried before.
We reserved a table in advance and got a nice window spot. Table service was good & very prompt and the food was really nice too.
They had a deal on; order any main of £8+ and get a desert free. We tried 3 different deserts (treacle sponge, chocolate cheesecake and one more but sadly none of them were that great. Mains were fine though.
Just as we were paying & leaving a bunch of rowdy drunken boys came in which did slightly ruin the atmosphere as they did go up to people's tables and drunkenly and loudly start trying to chat to people.
great place, lovely decor and the food was outstanding, better than some of the 'restaurants' in the area.
will be back without a doubrt!
the service was very good too.
Despite arriving 45 minutes early the staff at The Duke and Duchess were extremely helpful in finding us a table, despite being rather busy. The waiting staff were highly attentive throughout our meal and the food was excellent, surpassing my expectations. In summary you can expect friendly staff and great pub food which is ideal for a casual meal with friends or work colleagues.
Had lunch at the Duke and Ducjess, the service was great but the food was awful. Tasteless throughout with a highlight of the awfulness being mushy peas that were a dried up lump of greeen putty.
I have been working in the City for the past 2 years and I wish to know about this place before! Since the discover I have been at the Duke and Duchess two times and I am sure I will be back again. I had two of their specials during my visits, rabbit and duck and both of them were superb! Friendly service and affordable prices. Highly recommend!
Decent servings and relatively tasty. Attentive servive. Good option for a work lunch, albeit we'd be keen to visit in the evening for tapas and drinks.
Excellant for groups, food good and staff very attentive
Went there as I needed to have dinner nearby St Paul. The place was alright- but i didnt particularly liked the atmosphere and the service. It was rather empty with overly loud music- the staff wasn't really engaging with the customers.
I would say food was good better than ones from most of the pubs I have been to.
Had salmon fishcake which was very crispy outside and soft inside.
Not sure if I would return though
The food was very good and the staff very friendly. My only issue is that the vegetarian options were very unimaginative. A goat's cheese was one option, and the other was a vegetable quiche/tart (which was very nice). The tapas board is not available until the afternoon but it had a lot more varied choice for vegetarians, which was a shame.
I would recommend it, but if you a sick to the back teeth of having to eat goat's cheese as a veggie, I would wait until the afternoon for more choice.
Excellent value meal in the heart of the city, and really good service from this character-ful gastro pub.
We had a fantastic time, and the food was delicious, however we had a spot of trouble, as one of my colleagues is allergic to tomatoes, and asked specifically if a dish came with tomatoes. When told that it did, she ordered a different dish. When the different dish arrived, it had tomatoes in it! Which is quite poor service. She then asked to have the food remade without tomatoes, and it reappeared shortly afterwards clearly having had the tomatoes simply removed. Overall our experience of the restaurant was wonderful, but we were quite disappointed by this poor service.
We went here as it was a nice pub close to my work. the pub looked lovely from the outside and in. we both ordered orange juice and lemonade which was very weak and didn't taste of orange at all. i then ordered a thai red curry which wasn't like any other i'd had before and was more like jarred sweet chinese sauce - not what i was expecting and not very nice. my friend had the salmon which she said was delicious. i really wanted the food to be great and i'll probably go back again to give it a try.
