Have been twice before and loved the experience and the food. I was so excited to bring my daughter for the princess tea; however, the high tea selections have changed quite a bit and not for the better. The sandwiches were dry; the pastries were bland and lacking variety. They also served a smoked salmon sandwich and deviled eggs which weren’t specified and I don’t enjoy other. Also you used to get two scones of different varieties, now it is one. The service was lacking and felt cold. Thankfully my daughter didn’t know the difference and enjoyed the tea.
What a wonderful treat to enjoy high tea with my granddaughter. Delicious food and the ambiance was so relaxing. Sanitation and safety was a high priority.
Had high tea there, food quality is actually quite bad. The China was also dirty, lipstick marks on the tea cups.
My wife and I enjoyed our tea at the Drawing Room. The service was great and they were very accommodating with my gluten allergy.
The service was excellent. There was no sense of being rushed to order or eat. The food was excellent and it felt like we had the dining room to ourselves.
I would recommend the table setting over the chesterfield seating.
Service was excellent but not as delicious like before.
Will come back for another try.
Lower your expectations if you’ve had tea outside of the country or in Victoria, BC.
As Canadian Afternoon Tea service goes, it was a very nice experience. It would compare to a Que. tea but under that of the old Park Hyatt (Annona) and the Royal York (The Restaurant). Buyer beware, Royal is in the trash with their new place called Reign and the Park Hyatt is still under renos. Pass on the King Eddie, Shangri-La (gross) and The Old Mill (dry sandwiches plus fruit flies)....
The Prince of Wales was a perfectly pleasant experience. There are ways around reminding us that we’re in a pandemic without making it so obvious. They came out with the jam, clotted cream and whipped not chantilly in these little fast food restaurant containers before they brought out the tea service. For a snob like me, it was not appealing at all. Given they were so kind as to have our tea service on individual 3-tiered stands, they easily could have strategically had the little plastic containers placed on the tiers. Another option, the cutlery and linen pack could have been on the table and the plates could be presented with the three little containers on them......
Bottom line, as most know, Afternoon Tea is about the overall feeling you get from the experience and that always comes in part from the company you keep as well as the spot you’re at.
I would highly recommend you work the Prince of Wales into your agenda. They can pull up their socks in a few little areas but honestly, they did a great job.
Best High Tea around. We have been here several times and it never disappoints. Truly an authentic High Tea!
Amazing experience, as always!
it's always a lovely experience. We visited when there were coronavirus concerns and I was pleased to see the extra cleaning measures taking place in the hotel.
The Afternoon Tea is always perfection at The Drawing Room. My guest and I both have dietary restrictions (I am gluten intolerant and she is a vegetarian) and the food was better than imagined. Their tea selection is exquisite. The atmosphere is what makes the experience even more special. I will be returning for sure.
Good time. Seating is too cramped for me personally. Food was good. Tea was great. Will come again.
Our server Grace was wonderful. Very attentive . Always a top notch experience at The Drawing Room.
Lovely experience as expected. Always a wonderfully delightful time there.
Absolutely recommend over and over again. Love everything about it... Can't wait to go back.. Thanks Mary for always making us feel welcomed.
The food was amazing and we loved the atmosphere. However, we arrived 20 minutes early for our reservation and expected to wait to be seated but we were actually seated almost half an hour after our reserved time. They also did not have a 2 person table available at that time so we were seated at a coffee table set for 4. Three other parties that arrived after us with the same reservation times were seated much faster. We then waited after being seated for another 10 minutes when someone came by to ask which tea we'd like, but we were never provided with the sample box. After lots of waiting the rest of our service was great and we enjoyed a lovely meal.
Diane, Brooklyn and the staff at the prince of Wales should be commended for once again providing a break from the normal dining experience and a glimpse of a time gone by. Excellent work and well worth the price!
It was lovely. Nice atmosphere, lovely tea and treats.
Everything about a Traditional Afternoon Tea was perfect at the Prince of Wales.

The food has gone downhill over the years. We came here for Christmas dinner and it too was disappointing. The tea sandwiches were stale - the bread was almost crunchy on the edges. the sandwiches are uninspiring. Most tea services are bringing something new and inventive. This is the most basic cucumber and cream cheese, turkey and smoked salmon. Not great value for money as you can see they spent about a dollar on your sandwiches. The scones were unequal in size. One was large the other 30-40% smaller. The baked goods were not all made in house and again they had zero imagination. A mini-muffin/cupcake looked like it came from Zehrs, a small lemon tart and a sugar cookie, dull to say the least.
Overall nothing was memorable and I would tell anyone who was thinking of going that you will be disappointed and feel like you overspent for an underwhelming experience. McFarland House is a much better spend of time and money.
My parents had a lovely time! Thank you for going that extra step in providing her a little birthday candle and chocolate! They very much enjoyed the experience!
Dry bread and disappointing dessert. Quality was definitely down since the last time I had afternoon tea.
I took my husband there for high tea on his birthday. The service, food and ambience was great. This was my second time there and I know I will be going again this summer.
Would definitely recommend this for high tea.
Met a friend for High Tea two for one.Setting is beautiful in the historic Prince of Wales. Waitress was great-very attentive and friendly.
Food was fine.
Nice spot to take in the charm of the Olde Town.
We went for afternoon tea. Everything was lovely!
Delice..... that scone with the Devonshire cream and jam is HEAVENLY! Every bite was delicious from the sandwiches all the way up to the scrumptious desserts. The only critique was sitting so low in the chairs and are server was pleasant, but didn't go out of her way to make us feel like the queens we were for the afternoon.
If you are like me and never been, GO, great to sit and relax and actually communicate with each other. Scones were so fresh/warm out of the oven and tasted even better. Wish I had done this with my Grandmother before she passed, would've loved it
The ambiance was lovely the waitstaff was very good. I found the sandwiches mediocre. The bread was stale. The sweets were very nice and so were the scones. The cream for the scones was whipped cream not clotted cream.
Appreciated that I was able to get a scone without raisin! Thank you
We were disappointed to learn that one for two wouldn’t be offered in November. We hope you reconsider. Thank you and have a great day
Food was not that good, bread seemed stale. Never saw salmon on high tea menu before and neither of us at table eats fish. Waitress did not seem too happy. Will not go back
This is a most exquisite spot for a special event - in this case an anniversary. The ambiance, the staff, the warmth of the whole experience are wonderful.
Great atmosphere for high tea. Excellent service. Delicious food. Highly recommend the heavenly cream tea.
Staff was very professional and friendly. There were 2 of us and we each ordered the Traditional Tea service. This included a very large pot of tea each, it was very good but neither of us were able to come close to finishing it. The waitress did a great job of explaining the menu, asking about allergies or food dislikes. The selection of sandwiches and pastries was plentiful, we each ended up with a little takeout container of leftover goodies. The only negative is the bread was a little dry, like the sandwiches had been premade and not stored in an airtight container.
Service was slow - took almost 20 minutes before we saw a wait-person to take our order. Food was wonderful and ambiance was amazing. Price was exorbitant - should have been at least $10 cheaper to even approach good value, but overall a very nice experience.
Very nice afternoon tea with family. Ambience is nice and reasonable value for what you get. Service was fast and friendly.
We received the 2 for 1 tea deal and had a wonderful experience. Our server was so lovely and the ambience peaceful and cozy. Will definitely come again!
Based on this particular experience, I would not recommend the two-for-one tea. Service was excellent; however the bread on which every sandwich was made was stale — whether left uncovered to dry out in the kitchen, or just plain stale to begin with, the bread was dried out and the mini roll, in particular, was inedible. We did not complain to server as this was a special offer; however an offer that we would not recommend.
The food was really good. Our server Brooklyn was excellent; efficient, gracious and & charming. I neglected to reserve and high table but one was set up for us very quickly and we were pleased to be in that separate windowed room at the front of the hotel. Everything was wonderful.
I love coming to the tea room! The promotion is such a good idea. I’ve had waitress Victoria before and she is very lovely. Will be back!
