The Drake & Firkin Ratings and Reviews
I come to the Drake quite often and the service and food is usually good. On this particular visit though, the service was poor. I'm pretty sure our server went on break before taking our order - not impressed that when she finally came out of the back after 20 minutes, she stopped to talk to the bartender for a few minutes. Only when we got up to leave did she come running over. We only stayed because we were hungry and knew that his was not typical of he service here.
As always we are treated very well. "Our Fav ladies Eileen, Candice, Heather and Sam at the Bar take care of us" the rest of the staff is also very good! When there are wait times due to volume you let us know if we have to get out recommend food that is prepared quickly. Some of our troops love the Coors light/Canadian special day but then there are those of us that love love our "Firkin Fridays" Wine day.
Cheers So great to have a a place like the firkin to take a break from work
I really enjoyed the new menu and our food was excellent. The atmosphere is exactly what I enjoy on a Friday night after work. We did not get to hear the band, but I usually enjoy whomever they bring in. Service was great. Bartender accommodating as I am fussy with my drinks. Overall great experience.
I visited with my co-workers for a pre-Christmas work lunch and everyone enjoyed The Drake & Firkin. The server was incredibly attentive and enthusiastic, and we all really enjoyed the food. With my anglophilia, I particularly enjoyed the decor (the hat lights were so cute)!
Food came out at a good time which was good but I found the service to be overall slow. I did not like my meal. I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken. The server took it away at the end with my entire plate full with one bite taken and didn't even bother to ask whether I liked my meal. A little more attention to detail would go a long way. Lighting was also dim all night and it came on 30 mins before we left.
Really enjoyed the service. Our server was very friendly and had good meal suggestions. The area where we were seated was perfect, in a quite corner where we could talk and enjoy each others company without having to yell to each other. The nachos were amazing! I'll definitely return soon.)
We made a reservation for noon on a Friday to ensure we would be able to be back at the office within a reasonable time. We were seated immediately at noon. The waitress provided water right away as requested. We ordered about 5 minutes later, but our food didn't come until after 1:05pm. We had to eat quickly and leave for our 1:30pm meeting. Disappointed.
We were there on Mother's Day. The place was half empty and we were there around 1:30. It took over an hour to receive our food. Apologies came after 45 minutes to say the kitchen was "backed up". After an hour we finally complained and the food came out shortly thereafter. Most of the food was cold to warm. It was clear that it had been sitting out for a while. They did comp us the entire meal, but even for free, it wasn't the Mother's Day experience that I had hoped for when I was treating my wife and my mother. I doubt we'll be back.
Wasn't bad the night we went it was Valentine's. However they had only 2 waitresses and my husband I got there at 7:30 and were 2 of 8 customers until the end when a party of 6 came in as we were leaving. Our waitress only stopped once to check on us and never refilled our drinks or even asked.I opted for greek salad instead of fries but had issues because too much seasoning and my first olive had no seed so assumed the others would be seedless but was shocked when I bit down on a seed and almost broke my tooth actually had to go check that I didn't! Food was good especially the original poutine the fried chicken sandwich could have used salt though my hubby had the rib and chicken wing combo he liked it.
I have had lunch at this restaurant for many years, having worked in the area for a long time. The food is always excellent and the staff are always friendly and courteous. Sometimes the wine leaves room for improvement but it is a pub and I recognize that beer is their main focus, of course.
We went out for Valentine's Day with two other couples. The Drake & Firken offered a great V Day menu, with delectable choices. The food was perfect, the service was great and nicely spaced out offering enough time to enjoy our meals and conversation. Will definitely go back.
